  • I´ve got a new Kindle. I´ve downloaded for free some books. Do I have to register the Kindle when I get it or I can skip that register step, and still use the Kindle and the get the updates?

  • When will the UK get the kindle fire and the touch screen kindle... we're waiting.....

  • why is no one talking about that weird "black" that occurs when u turn the pages..it sucks

  • @TheNoCoincidence Because the Kindle 4 only rarely does it, maybe every 10 pages compared with older models that did it every single page turn.

  • Do the dictionaries work on the pdf as well?

  • One of the best reviews I've seen in a while. Thank you!

  • @lazyoldsun Thanks!! Please share our reviews with friends. Thanks! :)

  • I have it and I thought it was older than the keyboard one... Fail lol

  • I just wish you could see it in the dark ..:/..good interview :)

  • tried to pay for a book but still not downloaded

  • This is how a review should be done, precise ,clear and to the point! whoever she is, heres a big x from me, now I shall go out and buy one.

  • Can you use this Kinde without having an account on Amazon? I saw another review and the first thing that popped up when he started the device was a requirement to login to his Amazon account...

  • @qqbloodlover If you only read side-loaded books, you can skip the account set up.

  • @qqbloodlover

Yes you can use the Kindle without an Amazon account but you won't be able to set the date & time nor can you make collections. If you want to do either then you have to have an Amazon account and register your new Kindle.

  • @Umbrellatoo How can I Use The Kindle without registering it with Amazon at first boot up? How can I do that? I´ve downloaded some books for free. If I don´t register the Kindle with Amazon, can I Still use it and use all the features? such as firmware updates? Thankx!

  • @tomnikond600 You have to register the device if you want the updates or if you want to make collections on the device & a few other things. If you don't register it, you don't get the updates.

  • @Umbrellatoo Thankx Man. Another thing: I´ve downloaded books for free. If I register the kindle, will Amazon know that those books that I´ve download for free are free? Will I have anyproblem with that?

  • @tomnikond600 I don't know. That depends on how you define 'free'. Are they illegally downloaded books or freely available classics? I have no idea but I do know that if you don't register it you don't get the updates nor can you make collections and other things.

  • I just got it updated! it´s great

  • Does this work if you don't have wi-fi? and can you only use amazon to put books on it or can you just download them from torrent sites and put them on it?

  • @trey187123 You can get your content via a computer to put it on your Kindle. You don't have to use the wireless features.

  • @MobileTechReview So i can use other sites apart from amazon to get books, say i download a ebook torrent and put it on the kindle does it look the same as ones you buy?

  • @trey187123 As long as these books are in the formats that Amazon Kindle can support.

  • @MobileTechReview I don't suppose you could tell me the formats? thanks for your help!

  • @trey187123 mobi, pdf, and azw.

  • Tnx for the great review, it helped me cement my decision; I'm buying this baby in January (I have to wait to collect money from all the relatives on Christmas day :P)

  • Great review. Thanks!

  • @cptseagull Thanks!

  • i collect books, the kindle makes it seem like a cheaper way to collect cheap books...therefor i hate kindle

  • which has faster page turn

  • @rshimtheman the kindle 4

  • @iamtheblackstig if its fully.charged and you leave the wifi off, it can last for up to a month.

  • my first e-reader. I am glad that it read the usual pdf and txt files

  • Great review Lisa. Thank you

  • I would get his if the text screen was bigger. And, are there page numbers?

  • Could you do a review on the Kindle Touch after it comes out? :D

  • @ninalamusika You can count on it!

  • how to setup proxy settings on kindle

  • Regarding the 3G version -- Amazon seems to imply that the browser only works with WiFi and that 3G is only for downloading books. Is that true? If you don't know please look for that if you review the 3G Kindle. Thanks.

  • @quantumystery Yes, we do know that. The upcoming Kindle Touch will let you browse/download only books on 3G. Since the Kindle 4th gen reviewed here doesn't offer 3G version, this info is not relevant for this Kindle. Stay tuned to our Kindle Touch review.

  • Any advice to someone who's never owned an e-reader? Kindle4 or wait for the KindleTouch? Spring the extra $50 for the Touch3G? Are the "guts" the same and only have a different way of accessing the keyboard? Seems like a touch keyboard would be easier, but I don't know how often one actually uses it. Thanks for any input!

  • @schwinging I would get the cheapest model. The keyboard isn't very useful, and the touch edition doesn't have page turn buttons. the guts are identical.

  • @matthew21573

The guts aren't the same. Kindle classic has only 2 GB of memory, Kindle touch 4GB. Battery life is twice longer in Touch version. Besides, what is perhaps less important Kindle touch has speakers and stereo audio jack while Kindle Classic has not.. So it doesn't have text to speech option. On the other hand Classic version is slightly lighter, and has hardware buttons for page turning, what is an advantage for me because preserve the screen from being dirty.

  • @schwinging I've exactly the same questions! ;-)

  • Would you upgrade from the K3?

  • Comment removed

  • Hi, Lisa. Does this thing have russian language? be the way great review

  • The most informative review about kindle4. Thanx.

  • @spkindler Thank you! Please feel free to share our review!

  • could you speak a bit slower for upcoming review? thanks.

  • Thank you for the very thorough and informative review! Will you be able to review the Kindle touch and fire before their respective release dates?

  • @ghableska We will do out best to bring these reviews to you as soon as we can. Thanks for your support!

  • Excellent review as usual, Lisa! Many thanks. Thank you especially for addressing the five o'clock shadow that occurs re: page turns.

  • @vol43 Thank you! Please share our reviews with others. ;-)

  • @ArmanAbedi The Kindles allow you to connect the device to your computer and copy .pdf files. You also get an @kindle.com address to send .pdf files via email for a fee.

  • The same crappy 800x600 resolution.Why should I upgrade from kindle 3?

Maybe a kindle touch DX would tempt me. Or a generous price cut in DX from 379$ to 179$.Kindle 3 as kindle 4 suck on pdf support,Iriver released an xga 1024x768 res. model. Was it too hard for you Amazon, to upgrade resolution as well?

  • I love MTR reviews, especially yours Lisa! Thanks!

  • Nice review as usual. I want to buy the Kindel Touch. Please do a review. Thanks in advence.

  • Lisa... can't wait to watch Kindle Touch reivew... :)

  • Lisa, Very good job, as always... I think that you should copy the link of the full review on the description. well, just my opinion, u should think that for future reviews. :)

  • @santyago2606 We usually do put full review link there when we have them. We don't yet for the new Kindle. Soon though.

  • what is a kindle for? this seems pretty useless to me

  • @Hyper92793 It's for reading. The E-Ink is a lot easier to read while being outside than the screen of an iPad, the Kindle is lighter and doesn't weigh as much and the battery life is faaaar superior to the iPad.

  • The Kindle page on Amazon claims the one month battery life is if you're reading for about 30 minutes per day.

  • 6 ounces... that's... 170 grams.

Wow, Ok, that starts to become a little impressive. Especially compared to my 680 gram iPad 1st gen...

  • Would you recommend this e-reader? Thanks, your reviews are the best Lisa!

  • @johnnypowell859 She just did a 17 minute review...make up your own mind.

  • @KiraismyLord I'm pretty sure I wasn't asking you. Thanks but no thanks :)

  • thanks for always reviewing great devices, keep up the great job!!!

  • Would I be able to upload my own pdf files onto any of these ereaders?

  • Well done, Lisa!!! (:

  • and you definitely love your Stephen King, just like me! :)

  • @KiraismyLord Love everything he writes! ;-)

  • I love your vids, Lisa! Please keep making them! :)

  • @KiraismyLord Thank you! We will! Please help us spread the word. ;-)

  • Great review, your the best reviewer by far.
