  • Reminds me very much of Kerry Livegren

  • Defintely the best arranged, most powerful song by Trevor Rabin. This song has some of the best guitar and drum riffs I have ever heard in my life. This song wowed me from start to finish when I first got the cassete tape (remember those?) This just takes me to another world entirely when I hear it. My favorite song from Trevor

  • doi yg bikin lagu2 YES rada gahar....top deh

  • One of the finest guitar players I've ever heard. Sings good too...

  • @twhauss Bravisima Trevor! My favorite solo song by Trevor.

  • trevor is the best !!

  • OTRO DE MIS LIREROS FAVORITOS QUE ME ENCANTA!!!!!

  • not the ones i'm looking for. before this one were two solo lp's, maybe promo, unreleased? looking for the lp with "red desert".

  • Trevor Rabin was a great asset to Yes. As we've seen Yes evolve and create, Rabin gave Yes a modern yet melodic sound that isnt quite Steve Howe. Both are outstanding creative guitarists and I wish we could stop arguing who is better. I love Rabin's melodic emotional riffs and solos. Love Steve Howe's unique Chet Atkins meets jazz fusion/rock and roll style. Some of Howe's solo work on Relayer cant be compared to any guitarist around.

  • For what it's worth Rabin (despite his noisy riffs) saved Yes for a decade of more Yes music and tours (1983-1994), which led to another decade or so of better Yes music and tours (1996-2004).

  • It would take 3 steve howes to reach Trevor Rabin's level and creativity... of course YES' dinosours fans don't agree, that's why YES sucks big time now. Trevor is a brilliant guitarrist and musician.

  • @jljsuk The voice of reason! On that note, from what I've heard on the Union Tour Trevor did try to teach Steve how to read & write music which Steve doesn't do, (which Trevor does from childhood on, being classically trained & studied), & how to play some complex chords, & steve got frustrated & couldn't do it.

  • @jljsuk Trevor's artistry as a songwriter and film composer are celestial and for me his most esteemed talent ..and that's saying alot considering his sublime musicianship as a guitarist & on a multitude of instruments & his exquisite vocals. Do purist Yes fans ever put their egos in check and rationally think about WHY Jon & Chris continually ask Trevor to write new song material and come back in one form or another for their projects or for Yes

  • @jljsuk ...ie: Jon (on his ABWH project which became Yes's Union), or now for the much anticipated Anderson, Wakeman, Rabin project....Chris for Yes, the Syn, etc. Because Trevor as you stated so well, the level, inventiveness, inspiration, & depth & breadth of artistry flowing from Trevor's conciousness is just sublime & otherworldly.

  • Does anyone know this is a white man from South Africa who wrote and recorded this well before the release of Nelson Mandela? Sheesh.

  • @Beatlesgirl2112 Like anyone can help where they are born. I live in Michigan, which was stolen from native Americans. Trevor's 2nd band was "Freedom's Children ... older musicians whose songs questioned the South African government, especially its racial policy of apartheid."

  • @Beatlesgirl2112 Why can't a white guy write a song about how much stuff sucked in his home country? It's like you're saying it's a bad thing that he complained about how bad it was, and you're complaining because he did it too soon and because he's white.

  • Rabin is an epic guitar player. Way off the charts. He can blow any other guitarist off any stage on this planet. This song is a masterpiece.

  • @sleeve51 He's good, I love him to death but I wouldn't go that far.

  • @kapalen dude stfu that's his opinion, plus Trevor is def under appreciated, especially since he replaced Howe.

  • @bluebunny61

Why don''t you shut the fuck up you hypocrite. Did you think maybe I was interested in conversing with sleeve and NOT YOU, and we could discuss the merits of guitar playing, and maybe introduce each other to new musicians? Mind your own business, or actually contribute to the subject.

  • @kapalen I did contribute, sorry.

  • @bluebunny61

It's cool. Seems most people on youtube are just waiting to start an argument, when I'm interested in real discussion. It puts me on edge.

  • One of my favourite albums EVER !!!!!!! and this song is the epitome of epic !!!!

  • This song rocks. He never wanted to call the band Yes because it wasn't Yes. It turned into Yes when the label decided that it was Yes enough to call it Yes. This song is his shining moment, for me

  • incredible..such a powerful song..amazing guitar playing by Trevor

  • One of the best songs ever !!

  • Such profound moral integrity and social responsibility addressed in a song of fire, postive light, & beauty. I adore Trevor's artistry, and also that he uses his music to actually say such meaningful things with true purpose, to address & raise awareness to social injustices via hope, idealism, & positivity. Amazing artist, amazing depth of character, amazing person.

  • My favorite song by Trevor..such inspiring lyrics and stunning, music. A song of epic scope confronting the evils of Apartheid in Trevor's native South Africa (which he & his family valiantly fought & opposed), courage of conviction, & making a difference & standing up for what's right.

  • I can't believe how different he looks here! If you look at him on the 9012Live DVD he looks really really young even though these were in the same decade!

And I wish people would stop going on about Yes being crap "here" or "here" I don't love Rabin's era of Yes any more than I love Howe's, they're almost totally different, and both amazing!

  • Trevor plays practically every instrument and did here – vocals, electric guitar, guitar synthesizer, keyboard, bass guitar, background vocals, engineering, co-production. Talk about your multi-tasker!

He Also shot new life into Yes and musically kicked them in the ass when they needed it. This is a great tune, so is "Something to Hold Onto" from this album. A musical genius!

  • I absolutely love this album and this song is completely awesome. Really good guitar jam....

  • Trevor is with out a doubt one of the best out there. This song if you really LISTEN to the lyrics, speaks of a life lived with character and integrity. HIs family was active in fighting the dreaded Apartheid that consumed South Africa for so many years. GREAT FREAKIN SONG. And Yes (no pun intended) even at the age of 52 he is really easy on the eyes.

  • One of the best intros ever, and the bass line Rabin plays there is the bomb!

  • I totally agree lastdaysguitar. i've seen them both live and they are both amazing guitar players. I like Trevor a bit more for his great song writing but you can't go wrong either way.

  • @Arcixil I agree, they are both great players in their own way. Comparing them is kind of pointless, given that their approaches are very different from each other. I prefer to simply enjoy both of their musical efforts.

  • Epic!

  • II have seen all the versions of YES and I like the Trevor Rabin band the best. I think he is one of the most talented musicians ever. I wish for a Trevor Yes tour.. Later Johnny G Long Island

  • @GiambalvoJohn I agree. I don't particularly care for this song of Trevor's but I like a lot of the other songs when he was in YES and also "Something to Hold On To" from this same album. Somehow, he managed to stay clean & sober and married to the same woman for about 30 years, so he has done much better than some of his contemporaries in the business. I think he's gorgeous too. :)

  • I can't look away I can't look away I was waiting for the moment Then I heard the angel's scream Cloaked in arms of war I'll come to look for you For, until they see me, There is no other way Through the flames that set me free And the clouds that cover me I won't look away I won't look away
  • I've always loved this song (got the album way back in the day). The intro is utterly epic. Majestic and melodic in the one package. Great arrangement too.

  • That is just f'n bad ASS. Holy shit what an epic song.

  • Great song, great album. One of my all time favorite albums.

  • This is a very good song, nice and epic feel.

  • Comparing Steve Howe verses Trevor Rabin is insane... like trying to decide what is better: water or air.

Just be thankful for BOTH of them, they BOTH play GREATLY INSPIRED MUSIC FROM THE HEART!

  • nah - more like do you want molasses or honey...

  • that's hilarious... and true at the same time... I love it... And it's funny that I never ever considered comparing those two because they are both from the same beast. You know??? Anyway, I thought it was funny to read that.

  • In all fairness, they are from different times and places and it's really not a good comparison. Trevor is an amazing performer, producer, musician and brings worlds or different instruments and styles together in his music and productions. Steve earned his respect in his unque execution and ability to combining classical and rock into what we know as classic yes. No need to compare them.

  • Trevor vs Steve--and the winner is--------TREVOR RABIN by a landslide!!! Take that you narrow-minded "purists". lol

  • This is a great album.

I wish he'd do another solo rock record.

    It's been 20 years already!

  • One of the best albums I have ever heard in life ... Great Songs and Lirics! ! ! Trevor Rabin is the max! ! !

  • I have an` album with this great guy called WOLF from 1981(!) thats cool.Early pomp. Is the rest album as good as this one? Best pomp i`ve heard in years. :) The wolf album is ok, side 2 is totally melodic top AOR. Sid 1 is a little more `stompers``.. :) Peace

  • For anyone who cares, the lyrics are about the violence in South Africa during the time of Apartheid in the 80s.

ole9872 asked, "Is the rest of the album as good as this one?"

YES (pun intended), it is. Not really a weak track on it. "Sorrow (Your Heart)" is great, as is ... well ... all of it. In my Faves list, there's a Trevor Rabin tribute video done to an instrumental called "The Cape," which is also on this record. "Something to Hold on To" was the radio hit. Highly recommended.

  • Check out the live version of this song from his album "Live in LA" on my channel

  • From 5:38 on..... I hear distinct David Gilmour and Neal Schon tones and notes.

    Amazing and BEAUTIFUL!

  • The amazing part about this is the only instrument Trevor didn't play is the drums...everything else is him...truly a solo effort!

  • rabin addresses to a greater scope of an audience, whilst howe is more academic. may not be everybody's taste.but here he is having an edge over trevor.trevor is better in heavy department. but both r 10 top guitarists of rock.

  • @kharlamych oh bullshit - Steve Howe is stiff - his fingers, his posture on the instrument - his sound - all stiff. If anyone's more "academic" it's Trevor since Steve can't read music anyway, not that that means better. Trevor's just better because he's better. I'll take a Trevor solo over anything he did in the entire Yes catalog.. then that's me...

  • Quote: "Steve Howe is stiff."

How can anyone listen to "The Clap," "Going for the One," "Wonderous Stories," "Siberian Khatru," "Yours Is No Disgrace," et al, and say Steve's playing & sound are "stiff"? On the contrary, they're full of emotion, creative fire and GREAT tone.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. Bigtime.

Comparisons serve no purpose. Both Steve & Trevor are outstanding.

  • fair response... but Steve has always sounded and looked super stiff to me, be it on the electric stuff or the acoustic... I always thought YES needed a better guitar player and when Trevor stepped in I was like "YES YES YES " What I wished they would've done then was to basically rerecord all the YES tracks live with Trevor playing guitar. Steve always played that stupid semi hollow... uggh I hate the tone on that thing for rock music. The only comparison I made is technical - Trevor wins.

  • As I said, you're entitled to your opinion.

You're probably the only human being who thinks Yes needed a better guitar player. During their heyday in the 70s, Steve Howe won Guitar Player magazine's "Best Overall Guitarist" award five times -- an unbelievable feat equaled by only a handful of other players. Not just best rock guitarist -- best overall. TR has won it zero times.

Out of curiosity, which specific Yes songs feature this alleged "super stiff" playing by Steve?

  • @Ken5244 Unfortunately, the awards that you speak of were reader's polls. Not much merit unfortunately. As a method of fairness, you really can't compare the two players. Why would you want to? Two brilliant musicians who happened to be integral members of one of music's greatest bands. That says it all in a nutshell. That two such brilliant players can make their own unique contributions to such a unique ensemble cast of musicians.

  • @BarbarosDerby132

    Hi,

I agree comparing them is ridiculous, and I agree with most of what you said

except the part about GP Magazine's awards "not (having) much merit." In its halcyon days ('70s & '80s) Guitar Player magazine was the most respected guitar magazine on earth. If you were a highly accomplished/educated guitarist, you read GP. It was a musician's magazine, not a 'rock culture' magazine. Its readers were, for the most part, very knowledgeable and knew who was good.

  • @BarbarosDerby132

    Continued from last post:

My reference to Howe having won the Best Overall Guitarist Award 5 times wasn't meant as a definitive declaration that that makes him better than Trevor (as I'm sure you'd agree, it wouldn't). If you read the dialogue again, you'll see that I mentioned it as a response to another poster's opinion that YES "needed a better guitar player" -- my point being that someone as highly accomplished & esteemed as Steve Howe was more than good enough for YES.

  • @Ken5244 Bro, what are you doing in a Trevor channel trying to prove Howe is best??? magazine's poll are not credble and they are too much differente to compare..if you ask me i think Trevor is a virtuoso player compared to Howe.I love them both..they broth their own flavor to music which is an art and we should respect that and stop trying to compare them. You can dig one more than the other...that would be fair.

  • @stevezane

When or how did I "try to prove Howe is best"? What are you talking about?

I suggest you read my previous postings (all of them) again.

  • @Ken5244 Damn it...I replied to the wrong person...lol sorry

  • @stevezane

    OK

  • Comment removed

  • @irondaddymac I couldn't agree more. While the songs Steve wrote were great, it just always seemed to me that he wasn't good enough to pull it off. In steps Trevor and to me, YES had the guitarist they ALWAYS needed. Who cares how many times Steve won Best Overall Guitarist? The notes don't lie my friend. Keep rockin'!

  • @jeffhickman10

Name 3 of these songs you claim Steve "wasn't good enough to pull off," and cite specific examples in the songs that support your position.

  • @irondaddymac

Still waiting for some examples of some Yes songs that feature what you allege to be Steve Howe's "super stiff playing."

    Yep, still waiting ....

  • I guess the 80s had there bad musicians too...sorry this song was decent, but definitely not one of my favorites..thumb down my comment or hate me all you want

  • Steve Howe is a good guitarist but this lad is absolute quality at EVERYTHING!

  • STEVE HOWE.....that is all.

  • I haven't heard this till just now. Sounds like some pretty heavy influence from Steve Lukather. Maybe that's why Lukather named his first son Trevor. What the fuck do I know...sounds possible.

  • No!! This is very much Trevor Rabin of the 80's.....Trevor invented this sound. BTW: This song could be a B-side of the YES album TALK. So much the same sound. I guess that Trevor wrote most of that album?

  • I got this release as a cassette in the late 80's. Then a CD. Saw Anderson Bruford Wakeman and howe in concert. This guy is great., Another 80's guy who doesnt get enough press.

  • My favorite song of all time!! it's raw and emotional, I have been looking for this song for ages! thanks for posting.

  • This is absolutely awesome. I haven't heard this for years it's hard to find. God it's amazing. Fuck everyone who bitches about him being in Yes. He wrote the damn songs, and he didn't want to call the band Yes, so fuck off!

  • Yeah, Trevor Rabin wanted to call the band "Cinema" when he "replaced" Steve Howe, but someone didnt let that happen. Rabin is in league with Gilmour. In fact, im not quite so sure he wasnt using Gilmour's rig for this song. I know for a fact Rabin used his rig at one point or another. But anyways, ppl that hate on trevor rabin obviosuly dont carry with them the ability to absorb music on any kind of spiritual level. So yeah they can fuck off.

  • He was also using Rockman compressors and distortions in the early days

  • Very well put about the Great! Trevor Rabin!

  • @LifeGrove yes is jon andersons and chris squiers band i believe trevor uses a triplet of marshall 59 slp 100's

  • @dragon21247 nop..he uses Ampeg two cabs in stereo

  • @stevezane maybe now that is very possible when they recorded owner it was greenback 25's slant topsx2 1straight top saw the rig in an interveiw when m-tv still had time to do them

  • @dragon21247 I'm sure he has a few rigs...lol He always sounded great.

  • @stevezane must be nice to pick up the phone and say we are tracking today and say can you send me whatever and an hour later it's there on loan and prospect of purchase that's what happens when you do the homwork the ability is there and your music has somehting to say nice when a plan comes together hey,!?? break-a-leg c-ya

  • I like yes new and old stuff but rabin when he was in it. In my opinion I thought he brought more life and a cool sound to the group.

  • Excellent live recording from "Trevor Rabin - Live in L.A." CD. A must have for any Rabin fan's collection. Check out Trevor from 4/18/09-imagine a cure benifit with Alan White & Chris Squire. The guys looked so happy tp be sharing the stage. We miss that musical chemistry so much. Trevor & Elliot Easton of The Cars, so sweet...

  • I was first introduced to Trevor through 90125. This song, and the album from which it came, are very special to me...played it like mad during the summer of '89! The highlight was seeing him at the Park West in Chicago during the corresponding tour! It was a 21+ venue, and I was only 20, but somehow managed NOT to be carded by the doorman - how lucky! Great, great show! How I wish he'd put out another rock-oriented solo album. We're ready, Trevor!

  • Great song!! Me as a young musician, i´ve already found my influeneces: EVH, TREVOR RABIN AND ERIC JOHNSON.

  • Brings back old memories. great song

  • Great song! Great Album!

  • yeah too bad its so unheard of

  • I love TREV FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

  • right on

  • wow,,,I haven't heard this song since the early 90's. Being a Yes fan since 1972 I saw Trever with Yes in the 90's and bought his CD. At the time I thought it was a fantastic Cd. I was floored by the title track I Can't Look Away and thought it was one of the best songs I had ever heard. It had everything I like in a song. Killer drums,,,great guitar solos,,, great dynamics,,,,beautiful haunting melody,,great ending. What more could you want in a song.

  • Demais esta música.

    Lulla é um farsante!

  • I love the album 'Can't Look Away' so much and this track is simply amazing. Thanks for posting!
