Sylvia Lewis, huh? For years, I've wondered if it could be Dick's Bye-bye Birdie co-star and broadway legend Chita Rivera. Oh well.
Actually, my favorite part is when Rob teases Laura by telling her that Lewis's talent is just a trick. 'When you sing great and dance great people are going to think you have talent. But take all that great singing and dancing, what's left? Nothing but that haunting beauty.' Very funny.
@JR1960actor I'm sorry, it should be 'take away all that great singing and dancing'. Hey, it's late and I just did two shows in a local theatre production.

@jgman81 Are you kidding? Modern television is absolute crap. 10 minutes of commercials every half hour with commercials popping up during the programs also. No talent hacks re hash old plots from the 1950's simply to try to make money. The people in this vid produced an outstanding program every single week for years. I just seen a commercial 10 minutes ago for "the hot new program" it was Hawaii 5-0. I watched that show in 1960's and 70's.
@clintonearlwalker I'm sure there were bad programs in geezer time too, but you must not watch The Office or 30 Rock because those are both EXCELLENT modern shows.
@chumshot1 I just turned 50 on Monday and you are a teen hero: It's nice to know there is more coming up than teens only playing video games and watching MTV.
@CanTake8 Oh thank you!!! Yeah, it's actually cool online because I've met a bunch of kids who watch retro shows as well as myself :D!!!! This is probably due to the awesome programming of RTV and TVland
@BriannaAlexia lol TVland is great, but I pretty much ONLY watch RTV due to the fact that my cable is gone, and because RTV has a lot of new retro shows I've grown to love, that TVland never showed before!!
@clintonearlwalker The post-Roswell era -- those friendly visitors brought us genius DNA. Those alien probes are to show humans the horror of meat thermometers in turkeys, et cetera. Alien breeders? Bring it on. Homo sapiens need all the help they can get. Why wouldn't humans want some breeding with the super-intelligent forces that can traverse the universe?
Dick VanDyke's dancing can only be compaired to the great Fred Astaire....& I love it when the beautiful Mary TylerMoore looks at the camera 1:19 & 1:58..Always had such a crush on her...& this show is an old friend...Forever....*
Laura aka Mary Tyler Moore was sweet....played the dutiful wifey to a tee.....remember the censors back then..separate beds....whenver Rob had 1 foot on the floor, that was a signal that he hit that ass the night B4....cool!
The singing and choreography for this two minute act took a lot of dedication and rehearsing for a weekly tv show. Having said that, I just couldn't take my eyes off of Mary Tyler Moore's ass and crotch !! :)
Right. In the episode, for a community talent show Rob has to choose between his very talented wife and the very talented non-English speaking lady played by Lewis. Of course, he chooses them both. And Lewis's character sure learned English in a hurry;-)
Just wonderful! If you tried to improve this - well don't!!! Sylvia Lewis is so beautiful to watch...... so much talent!

Boy, what an American treasure. So many actors "back in the day" were quadruple threats: sing, dance, act, more.
