And now it's dead, sadly I never could find a good use for it. Tried to get several people to use it in business but they thought it was a waste of time. Oh well I guess.
Hey dude, you have one of those voices/ways of explaining that you hear on the TV. I wouldn't be surprised if you get into this whole thing professionally.
It was an awesome video, i didn't even know what it was until know (never even knew it existed!) I like how you used the computer things for clarity!
I have plenty of Google Wave invites to give out. Please subscribe to my channel then send me a message with your gmail address and i will invite you. Thanks.
he is, just a little thingy if u watch ur email from the browser it doesn't store in ur pc even if u connect via IMAP messages remain in the server not in ur computer.
With IMAP, you have the _option_ of not pulling all the messages in their entirety just to have look at them, but you can still pull everything out and store it locally.
There is not a single thing you can do with POP3 that you can't do with IMAP. Nothing.
By the way, GMail has an offline mode that lets you use the webmail interface without a connection. It does that by storing everything it needs with Gears (to be replaced by pure HTML5 when possible). I'm not a fan, but alas.
yah I know I use gmail since the day it was launched in beta with invitation only :) but IMAP is by default not stored in ur system (at least in gmail), and I don't think a novice user would know how to change the settings to store the whole message, in fact I would dare to say that a novice user doesn't even know that their messages get stored with POP3 and not by IMAP (by default).
But, this means EVERYBODY has to have Waves, if not it is not usefull. I can send a e-mail to EVERYBODY not only Google users, I will stay with my tools, I don't want a monopoly...
Wave hasn't been released yet, you have to go through this whole process just to sign-up. When Wave releases it will be connected to normal e-mail users as well.
@AlphaBettaFilms This is just what I am saying! You NEED a Gmail account you can not use it with any other mail account (AFAIK). Big Brother is getting Mega Brother...
perhaps, but again, since it's open source just w8 for a while and some other site will launch their version of Wave in case u don't want to use another google product.
but u can't question the reason for needing and acc, do u? i hope u don't...
With the second, your account name is "username", and what comes after the "@" identifies which server is that account in.
This is why google can only give account names in their own servers, because they only control theirs!
If you want a wave account at a different domain, then that domain needs to have its own, google-independent wave server, just like what happens with email.
Just as you can't create an @gmail. com email address at yahoo, you also can't create an @yahoo. com wave address at google.
And if you could, that'd mean every single wave address would be pointing at google, when in reality it's a system where all the different servers can exchange messages with each other without ever needing to talk to google.
In contrast, every single time you use MSN Messenger, Microsoft gets to know, no matter what "email" you used to sign in.
@fernandoscolletion well you see, the thing is that googlle wave is open source, and after it gets popular there will appear new "waves", let's say MSwave, or Yahoo wave or anything. And they will be compatible with each other like gmail is with hotmail and any other email. So I am waiting to get an invitation to google wave and really can't wait to check it out;)
I remember as Skype came out and we all want to use the conference possibilities just to talk between 3, 4, 5 people... at the end was a nice try but nobody wants to speak with 3, 4 or 5 people at the same time it is a chaos!! The same with Waves, for a chatting room? no need. For sharing? I use Dropbox, for editing in real time.. Hm, better don't touch my work, please ;-) Where are the extensions for business/work?, just for children or boring people. I see more potential in Unity (Opera)
@fernandoscolletion Wave's chatting is more of a conference mode. You have a sit down with up to 6 people, but you only talk to one person at a time. Sort of like speaking with the person across from you in a meeting.
a Wave is open source. Google has made it clear that they have no intention of owning the wave. Hotmail, yahoo, AOL. They can all make Wave clients that can interact with the other Wave clients. Kinda like how Gmail users can email users of other email clients. Google is jsut the first Wave being made.
I believe I see a Time Cruisers lego man from when I was a kid!!!!!
Time Cruisers was Lego's Back to the Future knock-off, and crossover between their different "storylines" which were actually just playsets with a few extremely low quality comic strips holding them vaugely together. The great thing about Time Cruisers was they had a good assortment of random pieces you could just build crazy stuff with.
good joob tryin' to explain what Google Wave is to everybody... and ignore the ones who made crappy comments, at least someone tryied to make people understand it, while they didn't.
Excellent. The complexity of Google Wave is such that even seasoned users of email, social networking, etc. are overwhelmed by it. They're also hard-pressed to even explain to others what Google Wave is. This does so simply and eloquently.
BTW -- The hater comments in this thread are undoubted posted by individuals who couldn't explain a pencil concisely, much less Google Wave. Ignore them (though I'm confident that you've already made that choice yourself.)
perhaps,, but maybe theyre just people who disagree with people like you and explain themselves excessively to prove a point (like your doing which could be seen as a hater comment against haters starting from "BTW" in which you fail miserably) so stop talking like you match Google Wave's complexity with your talking =P
those who want to try out google wave, you can get an invite from forums. most of them suck, but the best place to go to is probably googlewavehelp . net
Another really simple way is to search twitter for "i have google wave invites" and usually they say that they are giving them away to the first come first serve and there is alot of them.
Yup. And the apps you can add are awesome. There's an app for translating in the wave An app for twitter, an app for spell checking... an app for...anything?
You can choose whatever content you want to be posted... if you want the comments and the discussion too, that can be done... and when you decide to update a photo, or add new ones you just have to add them to your wave and they automatically get updated on the blog!!
Its nothing like Facebook. AlphaBettaFilms left out a big chunk of features like the ability to edit the text in a Wave that someone else has written (given that the right permissions have been set.
No, it's not just like Facebook. It incorporates ideas like FB, but for FB, if you are my friend, you see EVERYTHING I post, unless I change my security settings. Plus, I can add things as I go along, which in a basic form, I can do with FB, but not a lot. And I can't insert ideas, or photos or video into the middle of a post. And I can't go through and modify posts of other people, like I can (sort of) for wikis.
The point is, it's the best parts of the things we do today online. And open.
you cant edit anything once you publish anything on facebook... and on facebook multiple people cant edit a single post or a message... so its much new and completely different from fb...
Good clear explanation of Wave. I like the use of props, particularly the Wave UI. Seeing the peple and blips being added (by hand) to the Wave is good. Sound quality a little patchy tho.

Hey very good! Your knowledge of new technologies is remarkable considering you sound pretty young!
WRT Google Wave, it sounds a like merge of the top applications in use today: email, instant messaging, facebook and twitter. Pretty clever of Google...
I'm not saying you didn't made this, I'm just saying it's pretty much the same kind of animation that "...in Plain English" make, with paper samples and etc. They do a really good job and to be fair I think you're on the right way creating your own stuff, even if it's not all original. "Marromeno" would something like "not bad".
Very nice job :)

@fernandoscolletion part1
So, you think something like MSN is less controlling because it allows you to sign in with any email?
You couldn't possibly be more wrong.
In MSN and the like, your account name is "username@domain. com", while in Wave (and real email) it's "username"@domain. com.
They may LOOK the same, but the intent is entirely different...
The first treats the whole account name (username@domain. com) as a whole, and stores it in a Single Monolithic Server.
atan0k 2 years ago
@fernandoscolletion part2
With the second, your account name is "username", and what comes after the "@" identifies which server is that account in.

Hey very good! Your knowledge of new technologies is remarkable considering you sound pretty young!
WRT Google Wave, it sounds a like merge of the top applications in use today: email, instant messaging, facebook and twitter. Pretty clever of Google...

Nice work. Now if only Google could take a minute to explain exactly as you did to the public.

I made every second of this homemade video; it is not piracy, and please tell me what marromeno means.
