Are you serious Barbara? Worrying about a GD resume over a child? Did Brooke lay it into Barbara? Look at how she has that look of "YES! I got that brat out of the house!" before the car hit her. I am SOOOOO glad she is not on the show anymore.
I was 6 (around the same age as Laura) when this happened. I remember watching this with my mom. I went to school for half a day (until around 11:30am). At noon my mom and I watched this. I was so scared because she was a kid like I was. I remember thinking how could an adult (Barbara) be so stupid and let a kid cross the street by herself at night!
WTF did she let a small child cross the street by herself; especially if it was getting dark? All of her business savvy and education and she was a total frigging MORON. WOW. . .
I never liked Barbara, because she's the slut who were trying to break up Jack and Erica. I never knew that she was responsible for Laura's death. She the one who try to judge Erica. Even if I don't have kids, I know better then to let a child cross the street on it's own. I really, wish when she came back Erica throw it at her. How can she even live with herself?
I remember this vividly. i was 3 turning 4 when it happened. she and I were both born in 1984. my mom is shocked that i remember this, she swears it happened when i was like 6 but i always tell her it happened when I was 3. i was right.
i think i remember seeing some of these episodes. i'm not sure, i might just think i did because both this clip and Brooke finding out were aired on specials and in flashbacks.
@vanguy39 I knew this was gonna be hard to watch for me as well. So I swallowed the lump in my throat and went on ahead. Gosh, it's the most heatbreaking thing ever witnessed on AMC...and they've told quite a few. The sad thing is, this stuff really could...and has happened to people.
That's true. Although I didn't see many of Barbara's 2007 scenes, it seemed like she wasn't the same character I remembered. Apparently, she was only brought back to annoy people and to drive more of a wedge between Jack and Erica. That's too bad because Susan Pratt is capable of doing more than that.
This was hard to watch all these years later. The drunk driver, I believe, was a cop out celebrating. Am I correctly remembering it? Barbara was gorgeous, but not the parenting type. Thanks AMCREWIND!
AMC's best tearjerker was Brooke finding out Laura died from a drunk driver. Julia Barr nailed those scenes to perfection, making you feel for Brooke's loss and basically being there in the scenes with her as she goes through a parent's worst nightmare. My mom cried for five days straight over this story...not many soaps can pull off a tearjerker like this one.
@sonyab1974 Yes Barbara's irresponsibility sent Laura to her death(okay ostensibly she hadn't driven the car but still) Barbara may not have been a mother yet but still come on! And how Tom could marry the woman who had allowed that too happen. What cow patty!(Tom was not always the smartest man and he did have a temper)

She didn't look both ways and I was hoping to hear a speedbump sound....?

Laura was played by the daughter of then-headwriter (and now AMC's last headwriter) Lorraine Broderick.

I wish that Barbara's guilt was revisited when she returned to the show a few years ago (her drinking, etc.).

EXACTLY! But....sadly. the writing material for AMC has been sh*t for so long it is no wonder they ignored this.
