I love how early Tommy was into the qypsy jazz scene as well as all those other genres he performs so well before he went into the world scene with youtube and gained so much renown for his relatively simplistic fingerpicking style.
Personally, it's was Tommy's famous style which got me hooked, and I am thankful for it now as it has lead on to my own personal discovery of other great artists and much more incredible complexity.
Tommy is an utter genius, continually surprising me every time..
@TheDudeFrom0Z Lol, dude...chill...TE is GREAT, -the 'simplicity' I was referring to was the apparency of the presentation of his strong melodies. It's his ability to make the most 'sing-able' melodies and his fantastically subtle ornamentation which allows him to make these complex works so popular, in contrast to the blazing runs and gargantuan arrangements of the jazz and classical scene. I'm a huge Tommy fan as well as player, so I'd know well enough what a feat it is to learn a Tommy piece.
@mycheesedguitar I disagree. His music is complex ... technically, but not musically. His harmonies are the same as of some not so bright musicians. That's the reason his melodies are so 'sing-able'. No matter how you put it, you can't make a complex harmony accepted by the big audiance.
His most popular stuff is in his songs like Mombasa, Angelina and Classical gas, which frankly, are exactly as you've described. And it's a shame, where he does utterly brilliant stuff in his arrangements of jazz standards, they don't get the same recognition simply because people can't keep up. It's true though, that he puts A LOT of work in playing to the wider audience, (and is often successful), but unfortunately too often 'tis caviare to the general.
And to think our children really believe that they need to tune into the Jonas brothers to be entertained these days, when we have talent like this around.
Pretty darn sweet! Nigel I would think was influenced by the Hot Club of France, he sounds alot like , uh forgot his name. He has excellent chordal/harm. interval skills as well. And, of course, Tommy kills as always
I am a guitarplayer myself and a huge fan of Tommy Emmanuel, but this got into my favourite folder because of the brilliance of Nigel Kennedy. What a musician.
Generally, you have to spend LOTS of time alone practicing to get good @ classical myoosick. That's time you're not out learning to interact with people............therefore you'll find the same syndrome in most classical players, expecially when they try to be cool.........
oh yeah, he told me backstage at a gig that he used to play ovations and takamines because they had fantastic pickups, where very other guitar company failed.
he developed the pickup with Maton years later, when they were about to put a torch to their place, and that basically put the company back up and running.
It's great to see Tommy's versatility with other artists. He is great whether playing solo or accompaniment. He puts everything he has into each performance. Thanks for sharing this one.
Saw Nigel at the Opera House...beautiful, entertaining, a little crazy and brilliant..an experience never to be forgotten!! Glad he is now starting to do a bit of Jazz as well...wowzers!

@mycheesedguitar hey mate, simplistic? i think not. i know how to play tommy songs and there isn't anything simplistic to his style or songs at all.
