I watched you guys from the live chase page. After watching this video it makes sense why you lost the storm. Its unfortunate to get a flat tire but I am sure you guys will have better luck for the next chase. I'll be watching you guys all year. Good Luck....
Rule of the road: NEVER change a tire while wearing sandals/open-toed shoes. A small slip could prove to be much more disastrous than a EF-2 in a heavy forest.
Reed... What's up with you getting a flat tire.. You ain't TIV.. Are you? That was a first.. I thought Reed could never be dented by such minuscule mishaps ;)
Hope you are in Texas now.. We've got tornado watches all over the place around here today.
I'm a truckdriver. I left Amarillo Tx yesterday AM and took US 287 to Stratford Tx and then US 54 to Guymon OK and then Rt 163 to Ks 25 to Ulysses Ks. The wind all day yesterday was blowing like crazy and there were times when it was hard to keep my truck on the road. Was this wind part of the weather system in this video and was it also part of the system that dumped all the snow in Wy, Co, and Nd ?? Also could you suggest a book, kinda like a dummies guide to severe weather Thanx..
All of the systems you mentioned are related. The wind blowing from the south greatly increased inflow to the storms.
A good book for learning about severe weather is the Storm Chasing Handbook by Tim Vazquez. It has some more technical areas, but most of it is easily understandable.
That reminds me of a joke. How many storm chasers does it take to change a tire? 10. 1 to change the tire and the other 9 to sit and whine about the storm they juts missed! :-)
Hope you guys get some ones this season, and get that probe deployed (last year was cool!) late April and early May are just around the corner

*Cringes* Nasty cut in the sidewall. That's not a cheap tire, either, Low-profile.

imm pretty shocked it took that many people to change a tire hahaa
cMeLe201 2 years ago
good thing that didnt happen while you were a tornado path. THAT WOULD SUCK!
BowDownToTheQueen 2 years ago 3
they rode on it flat, the rim and ground ate up the sidewall. puncture or bead failure caused it to go flat

The mechanical inability shocks me. With all of the situations they go through, you think one should be able to change a tire. Sad

Maybe the sidewall is like that because they drove on it. Just my guess! Driving on a tire will destroy it and a lot of the time cuts the side wall.
pankdaddy 2 years ago
looks like the tire was bad, or over inflated or faulty. See how the sidewall blew out. It wasn't a nail that did that.
