my feelings are that there are about as many differant ways to smoke meat as Carter has little pills.....if you are turning out good flavored meat that you like more power to ya...im not a pellett stove guy.....but im not afraid of them either.......now get smokin
i have a traeger and a big green egg , they are both really good. who cares if it is pellet fed, that is just new technology at work. if your such a stickler bout being a real pit master and doing it the traditional way i take it your hunting and cleaning your own meat then rubbing 2 sticks together to get fire, if not your not doing it the original way either. both ways taste good and at the end of the day thats all i care about.
Oh, yeah, johnny, since you build a fire and regulate the temperature to cook meat, how is that any different than the pellet machine? it has a fire and you regulate the heat. you are such a real man. wow.
The, Five-Second Rule, in effect when dropping food via old-school bbq. When dropping food from an auger style "Machine", you must step on it as fast as you can, five-second rule dont count. School-yard rules, for old-school bbq-ing. These automatic (sissy) pellet machines need to be kicked-out of the school yard, by the real tuff-guys of authentic bbq, in taking back the field, from those who dont deserve to play.
Sorry guys, I know what type of pellets you should be using, given from a little furry, long eared kritter. This is one of the saddest excueses for cooking outside that I've ever seen.
1:20-1:23 "for competition purposes, you're cooking with wood". 1:29 "it uses electrecity to control the auger and the fan". So, YOU aren't in control, the machine is in control. Guys, just go back inside and stand in front of the stove and leave the True men to grillin outside.
My opinion is that if you're using, temp dial, automated wood pellet feeder, and you've plugged this thing in, then you're not bbq-ing you're kitchen style cooking outside. But that's just my opinion. Your bar-bq-ing shouldn't involve your fire being plugged into an outlet, and most definatly not in competitions, not real ones anyways.
So true, this is like someone that solely depends on a GPS for navigating that cant read a map or compass, if batteries fail on GPS your lost. Smoking is a craft with time honored tradition. Smoking meat and being a true pitman/master is about time, temperature and draft control by your own hand, the old fashion way, with coal and wood. All automatic draft/self feeding machines should be barred from all competition. Anyone using an auger driven pellet bbq and calls oneself a pitman, is a joke.
Further, using pellets for smoking is not an issue if introduced manually in fire box, another issue is the use of an automatic [electric] rotisserie, many manufactures will refute. The only permissible automated device, which is an advantage for all is a remote control thermometer to monitor and alarm all temperatures of smoker and meat while getting sleep. Again mechanical driven devices such as [electrical] pellet auger should be barred from tournaments. Next microwave ovens will be allowed.
Slap me thrice and hand me to me momma. I'll be damned, the auto-deer feeder put to cooking use. So, first it shoots the pellets for the deer, then it shoots the wood pellets to -cook- the deer. Out-floggin'-standing! A-1 vid.
You just showed how it works, not why it "makes better barbecue"
