It's fast, secure (At least more than mac and windows are), and completely open source. The only problem I can think of is software compatibility and that's not a fault of Linux. In fact there are programs such as Wine that enable windows applications to run in Linux (They don't always work but still its better than nothing). So why does Linux suck?
And, I know and have used: Ogre, Linux native games, Wine, Cedega, Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, OpenOffice... and NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM are replacements for the former.
Having said that, Linux is PERFECT for server machines (And the perfect nightmare for 'Users').

@MrCheesecakeFilms OSX isn't Unix because it isn't based off of the Unix code base. One could argue it is a BSD distro though, since it uses the BSD. Android on the other hand is based off of the Linux code base, so it is Linux. And if you root your Android phone, you can actually access the Linux console.
I love me some windows, but let's not understate linux. It's not the most popular out there, but its presence in the corporate world shouldn't be understated.
@MsPwain That is exactly how I feel too! I'm running Ångström on a 600mhz computer and it is much faster than my dual core 1.5ghz pc.. Speed and customization are definitely the two things that really keep me a dedicated linux user..oh, and of course the stability!

@therealerf909 User friendliness is a euphemism for: those who don't understand anything about computers. Windows and Linux are both more customizable and easier to use for the computer literate than a mac. Mac's have errors just as often as all other operating systems, but whereas with mac you can't go into something like the BIOS in order to tinker with things and possibly fix it, you can with a windows or a linux OS. So yeah.

@aleksinjo1 Ok so first lemme say, I've tried all three, but I'm sticking with Windows, because of the programs that only run on it. But both Linux and Mac OS Are very good, stable operating systems. Better than Windows. The Mac hardware you buy isn't superior to the generic PCs, it's overpriced really. Ideally I should have triple boot with all three of them, that way I can choose one depending on what programs I need. Also what helps is Wine, which lets you run win apps on Linux and Mac.

Don't quote me on this but I think the Unix Kernel that Mac uses is a Monolithic Kernel while Linux is closer to a microkernel.

Ofcourse it is possible to get viruses for Linux and Mac. All you have to do is add a secondary source that is unknown and install it. Input your administrative (root) password and there you go, Virus installed. Same with deb/rpm/etc i guess. Or you can add Wine (windows compatibility layer for Linux and MAC) and get some elite windows viruses straight to your home folder by installing warez software.

Mac OS uses BSD which is a Unix derivative developed originally by Berkley University, Apple uses a modified BSD kernel and a special shell called darwin as well as a windows manager called aqua. Linux, like BSD, is a Unix derivative so they come from the same family, but they are not the same and Mac OSX does not contain "Linux", and did not start from it.

In the case of 2D artists: because photoshop and illustrator doesn't run on linux.

@HRHShawnPendragone I don't know if you are calling me a Mac person or not but I'm definitely not a Mac person. I'm a Linux person. Mac is a waste of money it's just a an over priced PC. I also know that Linux is based off Unix but it still isn't the same.
Don't quote me on this but I think the Unix Kernel that Mac uses is a Monolithic Kernel while Linux is closer to a microkernel.

why make a virus for lunix thats only use 1% marketing? if you can hit 80% with windows ? or 19% mac. So use lunix make the virus spread it in to windows systems. @Xextreem No. Windows is suscetible to virus. Linux, not! This is buried in its filesystem. Without explicity permition, a virus will infect at most only the user session. Not the whole os, like occurs in windows. A virus does NOT destroy linux system, like it does with windows.

Linux may not be susceptible for viruses now, but even with the 7-layer security that Linux uses, eventually hijackers will find a way to crack through it with user deceit. I would estimate once Ubuntu reaches the 30% point, there'll be more big viruses for Linux. And as we get more users, more viruses.

This advert is wrong from the start. To begin with, lets use the correct names. "IBM style PC" and "Apple Mac". Only "PC" = Personal Computer. btw. These are computer hardware. Linux is a OS and software only. You can run Linux on almost all computers today, even a Mac. Linux ftw. :)

Ofcourse it is possible to get viruses for Linux and Mac. All you have to do is add a secondary source that is unknown and install it. Input your administrative (root) password and there you go, Virus installed. Same with deb/rpm/etc i guess. Or you can add Wine (windows compatibility layer for Linux and MAC) and get some elite windows viruses straight to your home folder by installing warez software.

Mac OS uses BSD which is a Unix derivative developed originally by Berkley University, Apple uses a modified BSD kernel and a special shell called darwin as well as a windows manager called aqua. Linux, like BSD, is a Unix derivative so they come from the same family, but they are not the same and Mac OSX does not contain "Linux", and did not start from it.
