i cant even imagine what was he thinking b4 he jumped. i think if i was on that baloon i wud be scared shitless when the jump time came. that man has the biggest balls on earth. no doubt
It must have felt so so lonely and lovely at the same time--death and life intertwine--at which moment was the most spectacular for him I wonder; at what point did his mind and body felt comfortable with what was happening; at what point was he the least and the most scared--oh, how I wish I can talk to him. Thank you for posting and thank Kittinger for the awe. The music was perfectly matched, don't mine what other tone deaf say.
@BXnEFX Faced with a presentation of one of the most amazing things a human being has ever done -- and all you have to say is the music sucked? You live in a small, sad little world. If you'd at least said "I didn't like the music" there would have at least been respect... you're entitled to your opinion about the it, but to make such a blanket statement (when others obviously enjoyed it), is trolling a little too hard for me to keep my mouth shut.
@Kesbang27 It was actually done years before YouTube existed and posted to site called LiveVideo by a guy who went by the name of Area51 (he had all sorts of UFO type stuff on his page as well). I kept a copy of it (with his permission) and finally managed to upload it to YouTube when the only other copy wasn't such great quality. Don't know where he is now (or who he was, heh). Thanks for your comment!
@ProfessorMc2 Yup. Lots of it still today, but it seems to be drowned out by the news of the absurdly trivial (or sensationalizing courage and spirituality when it's noticed). I like this because it's actually a very simple story, but a very powerful one, done quietly, and looked back on with awe.
@lllEdWaRd1467lll It was set to an edit of the U.N.K.L.E. f/ Moby track "God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters" off their "Self Defence" box set. The monologue was taken from the movie "Alive" about the 1972 crash of a Fairchild FH-227D in the Andes (this was in the U.N.K.L.E. mix). And just to give credit where credit is due, I didn't make this -- I just posted a better quality copy than the one on YouTube before :). The guy who did it went by the name of "Area51".
@halo434321 Nobody really knew what was going to happen when he did it from a physiological point of view, nor whether the parachute system would even work (which it didn't on the first jump and just about killed him). He wasn't even wearing a space suit! I hope to do something like it myself some day, but there will only ever be one Kittinger... watching him walk off that platform into essentially space gives me chills every time I see it!
Yep. The whole idea of this project was pretty much "Hey, I wonder if its possible to survive this?"
But with a purpose: they were experimenting to see if it was possible for astronauts to bail out and skydive if they had to abort on their way to space.
What a job description: "Do stuff that's never been done before, because we're curious if anybody can live through it."

@grow2b Moby, from "Everything is Wrong" is the basic tune. But this isn't the actual track from the album, a remix perhaps

I utterly love this video. Ever since I first saw it, I have thought it is one of the best things to watch on YouTube.

The power and beauty of this moment/video/song is profoundly moving. It highlights the best of what it is to be human.

Beautiful video with a great choice of music. And a very moving quote to boot. Favourite'd and rated. Definitely something I will watch again.
