That's a nod to the original RX-78-2 Gundam and the Gundam franchise in general. Robotech/Macross may be hot stuff, but its creators knew that Gundam (UC, of course) was the TRUE masterpiece, haha.

I first saw Robotech when I was eight years old (back in the very early 90s), rented it on VHS from the local video store. After that I have been a Robotech fan for ages.

in Robotech Battlecry, the Space Fold nearly kills Jack Archer. while Roy was killed, the others attend his funeral aboard the SDF-1, but the Zentraedi attack, so the ODBS protects the SDF-1 from attack, while Jack and Izzy Randal defend it.

the protoculture is the fuel that powers technology developed by the Invid and Robotech Masters. Robotech is just the machine ability to change form one vechicle to another configuration, protoculture is just better fuel source for the technology.

@TsukentoX They don't want to destroy the fortress they want to immobilize it so they can capture it. In the original Macross the fortress has a greater purpose than the one in the Robotech (American) storyline/plot. This is a reference to that.

Supposedly, in the Macross series (Japanese) the "SDF-1 Macross" is thought to be the legendary ship of the Alus, an entity prophesied in the Madruk (Madrook) culture to bring peace to the Madruk. This is why they don't want to destroy it.

The reason the Zentraedi wanted this particular ship back was because it supposedly belonged to the "Supervision Army". The fact that it had been rebuilt by "Micronian aliens" was a further cause for investigation and capture.
