  • Hi Plisko1..I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I myself work at the ACTUAL factory that makes those tire gauges..SYRACUSE GAUGE in Syracuse, New York. Obama's energy idea is far from a joke..proper tire pressure increases mileage and saves at the pump..experts from Nascar and AAA have agreed..I am proud to work for this AMERICAN company..we rely less on foreign products..one's tested in our own facility that don't compare with our quality and accuracy! Thank you again!! USA!!

  • u mean the gages arnt free i kinda wanted 1

  • Natural gas doesn't qualify as renewable, but we have a ton of it in the U.S. and it's a cleaner alternative.

  • If you fly over North Dakota at night, you can witness the Oil Companies burning off the natural gas eminating from their wells in every direction as far as the eye can see. It is cheaper to burn it than to try to recover it and if it was ever brought online, the natural gas prices would plummet. It is not in the Oil companies' best interest to flood the market with cheap natural gas. They are out to maximize profits, not to lower our costs...

  • And then you have an oil company owner named Boone Pickens (pickensplan:com) who WANTS to harness the power of natural gas because he realizes domestic oil production is in decline and doesn't want to see any more wealth transfered overseas on foreign oil.

  • Yes, I applaud T. Boone Pickens for what he is doing. I realize that it is likely only motivated by his realization that he can make a great amount of profit in convincing the nation to switch to wind and natural gas. But at least it is a step in the right direction. I would rather not make the baby step of switching from gasoline to gas though, since that too will become a problem eventually. We need to be switching over to renewables instead. It would be easier to do it in a single step..

  • I agree that Pickens probably has ulterior motives for pushing the creation of large wind farms. Many think he wants to buy up central areas of the U.S. to build wind farms only so he can obtain water to divert into Texas. However, he makes a great point that we are transferring billions of dollars overseas for foreign oil. Renewable energy sources and natural gas keep money spent on energy here in the United States. Oil is to renewable energy as 8-tracks are to I-Pods. Oil is archaic.

  • I haven't heard the water angle before this. Doesn't the States and Federal Government have a say in what can be done with the water and that say overrides the right of the property owner? If not, then one State could hog all the water from a river and starve out other States downstream. I'm not sure Pickens would be able to divert large quantities of water to Texas without approval of all the involved States and Fed...

  • Aside from tire inflation, immediate savings can only be made by releasing fuel reserves. We spend $700 billion on foreign oil each year. Yet, in less than two years, we could be driving 100% electric vehicles. Hybrids only continue our dependance. Remember GM's electric EV-1 car? Affordable, speeds of 60mph+, 0 emissions - consumers loved it. And now it's gone. What happened? Search: Who Killed the Electric Car? Hydrogen fuel cell tech is costly and unrealistic. Electricity is clean and quiet.

  • The problem with Electric cars is that they have to be recharged. So whether they are clean or not depends on how that Electricity is produced. If the Electricity is from hydro sources, it is clean. If the Electricity is generated from Coal, then it is a dirty fuel source. The electric car doesn't emit any toxins, but the method of creating the energy used to charge them can be...

The good thing about electric cars is that they can be charged completely from domestic sources...

  • Even if the electricity to power EVs came from coal, we would still be saving money and producing far less pollution than the internal combustion engine. Plus, as you said, the energy would come completely from domestic sources.

But the fact is, we have barely begun to tap into renewable energy sources to generate electricity. Ask yourself, how many homes in your neighborhood have solar panels? How many windmills do you see along your daily commute? How much natural gas does your community use?

  • We really haven't tried very hard to switch to renewable energy even though the OPEC Oil Embargo should have convinced us to do so. If we had begun to add solar panels to our homes in the 70s and 80s, we would be well on our way to energy independence now. Just because we screwed up in the past, doesn't mean that we have to continue on that course. Once we start a national effort to switch to renewables, the prices will drop quickly and the technology will improve as fast as PCs have...

  • agreed.

  • btw i think this response is my favorite "If you are calling others stupid, it is dumb to make yourself look stupid." arent dumb and stupid synonyms? Im glad to see you still have those gear working overtime up there... I wont even try to describe the nonsensical redundancy of that statement :]

  • Karen - You're demonstrating how partisanship makes you narrow minded. You're ignorant on Carter's Energy Plan, you've apparently been brainwashed into the Deniers Club.

And proof, I guess, that the Bush/Cheney Masters of Deceit

label also applies to the McCain campaign. But Deceit only works when people are willing to be deceived. Republicans are great at character assassination, and lousy at governing. Four more years of voodoo Reaganomics, lobbyists, political hacks and RNC incompetents?

  • Republicans want you to think the "tire gauge" is the essence of Obama's plan. They either haven't read it, or purposefully think the public is stupid enough to believe what they say. And they're aided in this by the media, who barely mentioned what Obama proposes, but dwell on the "tire gauge". The media have concluded that the American public can't handle serious reports that exceed 15 seconds.

  • Oil is unfortunatly traded in the open market. When the speculators see a possible oil shortage they invest in it. this drives upthe value. If you drilled and/or reduced consumption, it decreases in value. I'm a trucker who brings you all everything you own. Think about that, all you own was on a truck. My Peterbilt runs on Diesel. Thats Oil. Not "Alternatives" The more it cost me to haul your food, the more you will pay for your food. It didn't get on the store shelves by FM

  • Speculators have created an Oil Bubble that has nothing to do with supply and demand. They have used every excuse to pump up the value of the traded oil and avoided excuses that would drive down the prices. Offshore drilling may add a tiny amount to the global reserves, but it will not do much to drive down the price you pay at the pump by more than 4-5¢ in 5-10 years. And every drop we might be able to add to the supply can be decreased by oil expertors, keeping the prices that you pay high.

  • A couple questions:

We know who controls the land Oil companies have access to. Who controls the amount of oil that reaches the market?

Does all the oil that energy companies have access to automatically go to the market the second they find it?

If the scarcity of oil drives up the price then what incentive is there for the people who sell oil to bring more to the market rather than sitting on their surplus and counting their money?

That would be the best place to start this conversation.

  • Oh, and by the way, I hear bio diesel is actually better for your truck and probably cheaper than diesel by now. Hell, vegetable oil is probably cheaper than diesel by now. The diesel engine was invented to run on vegetable oil. Go look up Willie Nelson's activism on this subject. He has been working closely with truckers.

  • I have seen first-hand what happens when the price of oil drops. We cut production at the well-head in an attempt to increase the price on the open market. And often when we started playing with the production, it was difficult to get it flowing at the same level again when the prices increased. We lost some very high producing wells to this game...

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA YOUR AN IDIOT!

  • LOL Actually it should be "you are" or "you're". Is English your main language???

  • this is youtube..no one cares...

  • I guess those who are stupid don't mind revealing it for the world to see. What astonishes me is that they actually believe that they are intelligent though even with their obvious and glaring mistakes posted for the world to see...

  • that was really Deep Nightrider....to be honest you lost me after the first ate words but Im glad your here to provide that pseudo intellectual boost we all so lack which you seem to have an excess of....oh crap did i forget to say "you are" again? freak....my bad Nightrider....I will work on that i promise Are you on myspace? you should add me. you seem uber cool

  • I'm not at all surprised that I lost you. Hopefully a tutor can help you catch up on your studies some day. We wouldn't want to see any child left behind, now would we???

  • Oh please tutor me Knightrider! we were just getting to know each other...come on! You probably need the cash flow since you seem to be responsible for every other post for this video. Im not sure if an employed person has the time to sit on their ass and argue over youtube all day. I need you Nightrider! Anyone can find a tutor but no one can measure up to the the self proclaimed youtube spellchecker NightriderXP1!

  • I don't waste my time on lost causes. You're going to have to find some other poor soul to try to help you. I've got better and more productive things to do with my time...

  • Name your price...I will pay it Nightrider. without you i am nothing and will fall prey to the next youtube grammar enthusiast. You complete me Nightrider....

  • No thanks, I'm not that desperate...

  • And yet you keep biting the bate! ;)

  • So you're publicly admitting to only be here as a distraction and antagonist rather than arguing the topic? If so, for what purpose? David, does it make you feel like a big man or something???

  • Not really. I just enjoy using the wookie defense and seeing how others react. You were one of my favorites :)

  • hehe my bad Nightrider sorry for the grammatical error...didnt mean to hurt your head.you might notice most people on here throw out complete Grammatical correctness in exchange for expediency on youtube. For example your use of "LOL"...definitely not a real word but universally understood on here nonetheless. You wanna help proof read my english essays this semester? oops english has a Capital E doesnt it? oh geez is capital with an a or an o....that word always trips me out! Help me Nightrider!

  • I highly recommend that if/when you decide to call someone stupid, you don't post grammatical errors yourself. That really takes the sting out of your punch and reveals your own stupidity for the world to see. Blaming YouTube or the other dummies who don't know better doesn't make you look any smarter...

  • But arent you happy I am here so i can help you look smarter =]

  • No, you are an antagonist. I don't need you or anyone else to prove anything for me. I don't have a need to attack others personally simply because they disagree with my views. You had no bullets in your gun to intelligently argue the topic, so you attacked the messenger instead. You added nothing positive, intelligent, or educational to the discussion...

  • wow...you finally said something Intelligent! you figured it out! I lost interest in the whole argument a long time ago but really enjoyed seeing the dazzling responses you cooked up. I tend to have my serious discussions about politics outside of youtube and well the internet in general. Funny how you apparently dont have the need to attack others personally...when you at the start questioned my mastery of the english language. What else would you call that other than personal?

  • Dude, thanks for admitting to be a jerk. I will leave you alone to continue proving it to everyone else. You can get the last word...

  • Word

  • The difference is that they aren't calling people stupid. It is one thing to make grammatical mistakes, it's another to do so while calling others stupid. If you want to look like an idiot, make a lot of mistakes while calling people stupid. It completely neuters your argument...

  • I probably should have said that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones...

  • Dont Shit where you eat.....thats a good one too....

  • Yeah, but it hardly applies here. If you are calling others stupid, it is dumb to make yourself look stupid. IOW, don't throw stones if you live in a glass house is a classic. Your saying may be good for other things, but it hardly applies in this instance...

  • haha No Kidding my friend! i see you are still running intellectual circles around me...I only hope someday i can be half as smart as you Nightrider. after all you can discern the relativity of one phrase to a situation in contrast with another. Absolutely brilliant...you "are" one in a million!

  • Hopefully one day you get smart enough to realize that you don't have the intelligence to call others stupid. The more you learn, the more you will discover how much you don't know...

  • ok fine.....dont piss into the wind...

  • Keep trying...

  • Stupid liberal, why are you using an 8 lug wheel in the video. I thought you hated large trucks and suv's?

  • Are you saying that there are no longer any large trucks or SUVs on our roads? If so, I don't think the "stupid liberals" should be your biggest concern...

  • Your problem is you have two imaginary people in your head. You have the imaginary definition of "liberal" that you beat up all day and the imaginary definition of "conservative" that you try to imitate even though it looks nothing like real conservatives.

  • The real joke is that the Liberal Socialists are going to nominate an actual Liberal Socialist to run for President. Truth-in-advertising is fine, but this twit can't speak without a teleprompter. Get B Hussein off the script and he's almost as bad as George Noory, who actually can't even speak properly WITH a teleprompter.

  • Have you ever considered that you hate liberals more than you love the truth?

  • We need to set up volunteer air compressing station check points immediately. Red Cross or Salvation Army.. What's the outfit that helped Katrina?

  • Yeah, and you can man one of them. Good idea pic103! We don't want our failed FEMA to run the operation though if we actually want it to work out...

  • I have yet to see a single politician or other fan of unlimited offshore drilling explain just where the oil companies will find the rigs to do this extensive drilling. Anyone have an idea? Because there's a shortage of them already. Just so that we aren't being jerked around by more Big Oil/Republican rhetoric in the guise of an election year gimmick. Filling your tires isn't a gimmick and there's a hell of a lot more tire gauges around than oil rigs.

  • That is absolutely true donnegri. The neo-cons seem to believe that we have all these off-shore rigs laying around right now just waiting for the opportunity to be put to work. That is not the case though. It takes a very long time to build each rig, float it to location, set it up, drill, and hope to find oil. Most wells are dry though and many more that they do find are extremely low producers. They do not find oil in each location that they drill, not even close...

  • McSame is an idiot, but this takes the cake. An air pressure guage is Obama's answer to $4 gas? What a joke. How about we stop the tax breaks to the Oil companies NOW. Then threaten to Nationalize our Domestic Oil that's getting sold overseas (instead of here). Prices will drop immediately.

  • LOL This was only tiny part of what Obama mentioned. It is not Obama's Energy Policy as the Republicans and McSame would have you believe. In fact, they agree with Obama. This is simply an attempt at character assassination, the Karl Rove strategy...

  • How would John McCain know?

He hasn't had to do his own car maintainance since....the 40's?

  • I think you didn't get John McCain's joke.

Considering that the McCain Campaign is ran by simpletons, this makes you an "ultra maroon", as Bugs Bunny would put it.

  • Where exactly does an idiot like bpentium get the energy to continue with a barrage of nonsense as he displayed here? It just astounds me that someone could be so stupid as this. Just another angry republican male who gets his "news" from Rush, Hannity and BillO.

  • You know what Obama should do, he should come out with a "Made in America" tire gauge. One that comes with the pledge of allegiance so the hyper patriots have something to recite while they're making their country more energy independent. Although, the more likely scenario is that they will NOT inflate their tires just to spite Obama thereby increasing their personal energy costs. Most of these guys are not the sharpest blades in the drawer.

  • I guess you have your own fabulous skills to judge mine with. Maybe you should make your own video and show us all how it's done.

  • (* sigh *)

"Drilling here, drilling now" will not cause oil prices to drop in the short term because:

    1. It takes 7+ years to even *start* drilling in a new place.

    2. Our refineries (making gas from oil) are running near full capacity now. The oil industry has not built a new refinery in decades.

    3. Oil we drill goes onto the world market, where it will be a "drop in the bucket" with little effect on prices.

We have 3% of the oil and 24% of the demand. We can't drill our way out of the gap.

  • (*double-sigh*)

    1. You don't understand how the oil market works using futures contracts and speculation to determine price. Prices can (and do) drop overnight... witness recent events. Oil down $20+/barrel (not on increased supply).

    2. Source? Besides, there are ways around refinery bottlenecks.

    3. Again Source? Where are you taking your numbers from to make your analysis? Or, are you just parroting a more "informed" source?

I would appreciate a reply, thank you.

  • If we need to source everything here lets start with you.

Where is the source that says drilling here and now will save money? Newt Gingrich doesn't count and neither does speculating on speculators. You may as well throw a dart at a dart board.

  • My source is the ECPA phase III study commissioned by Congress and completed by the BLM.

139 Billion barrels of domestic oil (86 of which is offshore).

Current imports are running roughly 9.7 Million barrels/day (times 365 = 3.5 Billion/year). Source: Energy Information Administration.

Almost 25 years worth of (imported) oil is sitting offshore. I think that much oil is well worth drilling for. Now, what's your source?

  • What a load of crap, have another glass of kool-aid

  • You're a lost cause, and you believe in fairy tales....

What if everyone's tire pressure was already "semi good" Did you ever think of that? How many LOW TIRES do you see on cars?

This is freakin absolutely ridiculous, and you could just as well go on a diet and lose some weight, and produce the same results.. Or like I said, put a sail on top of your car, and pray for wind...

Drill here, Drill now, Pay Less...

  • "We can save "far more" oil now by using proper car maintenance than will be produced in a decade of offshore drilling"......

"Maintenance" HUH? "MAINTENANCE" is the answer to our energy crisis??

    I got your freakin maintenance...........

    DRILL HERE NOW..... Pay Less.....

  • Sorry but drilling now wont do jack for the cost. It will take a few YEARS before there is any real change of price, and even 7-8 years, the drop will be less than a dollar. Your slogan should be "Drill here, drill now, pay less in a few years". That is a bit more accurate.

  • OK, Then would you care to share your expertise knowledge why oil prices would not drop if we tap into all of our oil here?

It seems like the theory works the same in every other aspect of business. But wait, let's hear your expert opinion, give it your best shot, cause this should be interesting..

  • We have 1% of the oil in the world. If we drill it all and add it to the market in hopes of challenging the middle east oil, they will adjust their production by 1% to cancel it out.

Also, if you really think EXXON is interested in flooding more oil into the market so that it is worth less you don't get business. EXXON already has 65 million acres of American land with oil under it to drill. They aren't drilling. Stop being stupid.

  • There are 65 million acres in America already leased to oil companies with oil available under them. They aren't drilling there.

Why aren't you using your clever "drill now" slogan on them? They aren't drilling. Do you get that? They can but THEY AREN'T DRILLING NOW. THEY AREN'T DRILLING HERE. They are sitting on it. They want to lock up more land in their reserves while the government is still friendly to them. That what your campaign is helping.. . not us. . or oil prices.

  • No, maintenance does not solve our energy crisis. It only decreases our use of carbon based energy now. Drilling may or may not increase the global oil supply in a decade but it does nothing to help minimize our immediate problems. There is no guarantee that it will ever lower the price of oil though no matter what they find. Big Oil is in the business of maximizing profits. I have seen them cut production when the price of oil decreases. What incentive do they have to charge less???

  • Tire pressure can't be properly judged by "eyeballing" it. Obama referenced a study that actually measured tire pressure and found roughly 20-30% of cars have underinflated tires. He is also taking data about tune-ups/oil filters from the automotive industry to provide a relative comparison to the impact of offshore drilling.

I disagree with Obama's position and have doubts about the accuracy of his information, but he isn't just guessing people's tires are low.

  • What if you are just pulling hypotheticals out of your ass while the data about tire pressure is backed up by several organizations.

  • Uh, um, the tire gauge was not Obamas "idea" it's been around now since tires were pretty much made. I would agree that it was a re-iteration of what we should do anyways. It shouldn't be a political idea.

  • Yeah that commie org NASCAR advocates it, along with Bush's DOT and Arnold SChwarzenegger..oh wait he's an actual 'celeb'...so we can ignore him.

  • pic103. no one says we can...not even obama. how about you go listen to the full speech instead of the talking points you've been fed.

please - if you care, and I think you do - be responsible and read the whole plan...or at the very least, watch the Lansing speech. Doesn't that make sense?

  • The fact of the matter is you are screwed. People are seeing the empty suit Obama for who he is... He was dead set against any drilling, now he is changing his mind. Just like he thinks all of the sudden he is this big War Hawk, and knows how to fight. Bring the troops home now.. He is just like the rest of the lib's, he takes a poll and then switches to what the people want. Poor guy has no idea, and without the media he would be finished. He should of learned to play the guitar on stage.

  • Next you watch, he will be for even more drilling, and maybe even some of the other solutions McCain is supporting. The guy is literally riding this campaign on McCain's back. I wonder how much farther the spineless liberal Obama will come over to our side...

  • No one said that we can inflate our way out of anything, pic103. But we can improve our gas mileage today, immediately by making sure that our tire pressures are correct. We can save far more oil now by using proper car maintenance than will be produced in a decade of offshore drilling. And during that time, we can be switching to renewable, non carbon-based, and environmentally friendly energy sources. There is no need to remain addicted to oil, either foreign or domestic...

  • You are making my points for me. First, that people who want drilling have holes in their heads, second that inflation isn't significant, yet it still saves more Oil than Offshore Drilling creates.

    Thanks

  • Wow! It's on the internet. I must be true!

Great to hear that it's true because we have a "consensus" of "experts". Makes the global warming hoax look semi-sane.

  • obama's tire gage theory IS a joke. Where does obama get his calculations from? How does he know how many people are driving around with under inflated tires? He DOESNT. As usual he grabs shit out of his ass to see how far he can fling it. Never mind if its based on fact. He should be ridiculed for sticking his foot in his mouth before engaging his supposed intelligent brain. Yet another stellar example of obamas ignorance of facts.

  • Karen, perhaps you don't know much about how tire pressure changes based on the outside temps. Your tire pressure could be fine today, but not fine tomorrow. So unless you are checking your tire pressure at least every day, you would have no idea whether your tire pressure is correct or not. Since few people check their tire pressure that often, it is conceivable that most tires are either over or under inflated. Tire pressures decrease in cold and increase in the heat. It is not a constant

  • I work in the automobile industry. I am fully aware of how tire pressure changes based on temperature. The point is that obama has no idea the total number of people driving on under inflated tires. Therefore, for him to claim we can increase oil supplies significantly enough to help with our energy problem is asinine. Even if EVERY driver inflated EVERY tire exactly as it should be, this would not begin to influence oil supplies.

  • I think Obama's whole point is that it is INSIGNIFICANT and so is offshore drilling. He is trying to head off growing momentum in this country to open up more drilling (and his recent statements on his willingness to compromise show he knows he isn't succeeding).

What really bothers me is the people that somehow think its possible to get people to keep their tires properly inflated. A campaign of that magnitude would take decades of incessant indoctrination before reaching 90% success rates.

  • Actually, according to the US GAO, about 25% of all autos and 33% of all light trucks have at least one or more tires that are under inflated. That is a conservative estimate. If you are more than a secretary or janitor in the automobile industry, then you should fully understand that this is a problem that will decrease gas mileage, so someone like you should be an advocate for proper vehicle maintenance, not an adversary against it or anyone who promotes it...

  • NOONE is arguing that properly inflated tires improves mileage. What is asinine is to think A) it is feasible to enforce proper tire inflation for the entire US populaton, & B)even if EVERY tire in the US was inflated properly that it would produce the same oil supply as drilling. Im an advocate for vehicle maintenance. Im not an advocate for marxists who make up statistics with no basis in fact, or for morons lacking critical thinking ability to sort out reason from BULLSHIT.

  • Which statistics do you believe are made up? Perhaps we can start from that point and move forward...

  • "But we could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling if everybody were just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups you could actually save just as much" Obama 8/6/08

  • Actually, based on the GAO's own guestimates, 25% of autos and 33% of light trucks have under inflated tires: gao gov

    According to fueleconomy gov:

Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires.

    Fuel Economy Benefit: 4%

    Equivalent Gasoline Savings: 16¢/gallon

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math and figure out how much fuel could be saved based on these Government provided stats...

  • And that is equivilant to the amount of oil we would get from drilling?? No, it isnt. It isnt even close. Again, NOONE argues the fuel efficiency one gets from proper auto maintenence. However that ISNT what obama was saying. You obamamaniacs can try to divert attention from what the moron said, but you only end up sounding as idiotic as he did when he said it. Keep drinking that koolaide.

  • Karen, I have worked the oil patch. I have worked the rigs, I have hauled crude, and I have worked as a pumper on a high producing well. Most wells are not high producers though. Just because they drill, that doesn't mean that they are going to discover huge quantities of crude. And only a portion of each barrel of crude actually is converted into gasoline. It is easy to conserve what we already have. It's not so easy to find and produce new wells, most of which don't produce very much...

  • Yeah, with the current leases that may be the case. If you keep drawing from an empty well, then you will keep coming up emtpy. Most sane people move on to a different well however. Estimates are that we have three times the resources of Saudia Arabia in oil shale alone. That isnt including Anwar, or the resources we dont know about offshore. We tried the conservation route with Jimmy Carter. We saw where that got us. Conservation wont solve the need for energy.

  • Actually very little was done under Carter, and it was somewhat effective. The bottom line though is that if Ronald Reagan hadn't totally junked the Carter energy plan in favor of big oil, we'd be a lot further down the road today. A lot better off. In addition, all this hoopla about drilling has put one of the reasons for reducing our dependency on fossil fuels onto the back burner (i.e., the environment), which is just fine with big oil and most Repubs.

  • I lived through Carters DISASTEROUS term. You have no clue what you are talking about. Carters energy plan was to turn down the thermostadt. Equivilant to obamas tire gage theory. Carters fireside chats arent his only claim to fame. Double digit inflation, unemployment, and gas lines are at the top of his resume too. Then of course there is Carters complete imcompetency in diplomacy, which he continues to display 30 years later.

  • First off, Karen, you need to stick to the subject of energy. I see you have nothing to say about my main point: had Reagan not junked Carter's 1979 Energy Plan, we'd be in a lot better situation today in respect to alternatives, renewables and even conservation. Not to mention the environment. And I think you know it.....

  • Carter had no workable energy plan other than conserving. Thank god for Reagan and his effort to undo Carters harm. It is because of the environmental LOONs we are in the situation we are in now. Newsflash: There is NO climate crisis and no environmental crisis (least not til we have to deal with the mercury disaster created by "green" lightbulbs).

  • Lefties have done a stellar job with their energy plans by causing food shortages. In their brilliance they think burning FOOD is an efficient energy policy. Please, we have had enuf of you tree hugging morons. Take your tire gages and stick them up your ass.

  • You have been drinking the Koolaide for far too long. "Lefties" are not your problem. You can thank the "Righties" for the mess we have now. But since you are under total mind control, you will probably never be able to see the truth. Please open your eyes and go into the light. It's finally time to reject the politics of hate, intolerance, and division and embrace policies that will benefit all of mankind...

  • ROFLMAO The obama creed! Priceless.

    Ohmmmmmmmmm Ohmmmmmmmmmm Ohmmmmmmmmmm

  • Your hate will destroy you and your party. Keep it up for the world to see and reject. You are revealing your dark side to all, and they are increasingly rejecting it en mass...

  • Only in an obamamaniacs mind is political discourse hatred. You forgot the "racist" part of your mantra.

  • Karen, political discourse is when you discuss the issues. Hate is when you avoid the real issues and attack the candidate's character. I did not use the term racist yet since you have not posted racist views that I am aware of. Are you admitting to be a racist in addition to being a hater? I hope not...

  • BINGO!

I knew you wouldnt disappoint Night!

  • LOL You sound like McSame. Introduce race into the conversation, then blame the responder. Keep it up. People can see right through you karen...

Why not drop the hate and get back to discussing the topic? If you don't have any facts to intelligently debate the topic, attacking the messengers isn't going to help your cause either...

  • More originality from NightriderXP1. You got that obamamaniac play book down to a T. WTG!

BTW, if you want to stay on one topic we can do that. YOU were the one who went off topic and instead of addressing the point being discussed you gave us the "go into the light" and "politics of hate" mantra. Typical obamamaniac.

  • Too funny karen. You were the one who started attacking "Liberals" and "Lefties" instead of discussing the topic. It is easy to prove who went off-topic just by quickly scanning through the all comments. Since they are posted in chronologicial order, it is pretty difficult for you to argue...

You ran out of bullets so you started attacking Obama, his supporters, Liberals, and lefties. That doesn't solve the mess that the Conservatives have created though...

  • Reagan guaranteed that we would continue to be dependent on oil. That's nothing to be thankfull for unless you really do enjoy paying $4 per gallon for gasoline. Your "god" did no favors for any of us...

  • Obama's Energy plan is more than checking the tire pressure and Carter's was more than just turning down the thermostat. The Conservative talking heads want to focus only on part of the plan, but it is far more extensive than they are saying. Conservative obstructionism will prevent us from moving toward clean renewable energy sources. The Conservatives will destroy this planet if given the opportunity to do so. Quit being a hater for once and do what is right for future generations...

  • Actually, we didn't try the conservation and we didn't switch to renewable energy sources that Carter had recommended. Instead, during the Reagan years, Detroit started pushing gas guzzling SUVs and lobbied to decrease the CAFE standards. The Conservative leadership worked diligently to do just the opposite of conservation. So now we find ourselves 3 decades later more addicted to oil than ever before. We learned nothing from the OPEC Oil Embargos and we can thank Conservatives for the mess.

  • Karen, since you have never worked the oil patch, I'm not surprised in your ignorance. you can drill one hole and come up dry, then move over 50 feet and find a high producer. You aren't going to find salvation in the pump from oil shale either. It is expensive to extract oil from oil shale and unfortunately, there are many environmental problems in doing so. Oil Shale will not decrease the prices at the pump at all...

  • Thanks for listing your source fueleconomy gov. It only took me 2 minutes to find a couple problems.

    1. Under-inflated tires is clearly listed as 3%, the 4% figure was listed for tune-ups. Air filters is listed at "up to 10%."

    2. Under "Data Sources" at the bottom of the page it tells how tire/tune-up data was provided by a "consulting" company EEA, inc. You need to check them out before accepting their data (bias?). Data on the air filters is from 1981, pre fuel injection vehicles(OECD)!

  • Do you actually believe that fuel injection allows us to drive on under inflated tires without affecting our fuel mileage???

I do concede that I accidentally used the stats for tune-ups instead of tire pressure. The stats aren't that much different between the two though. For correct tire pressure, you could conserve 3.3% or 12¢/gallon now. That is still a considerable savings. They predict that offshore drilling "could" decrease the cost of gasoline by 4-5¢ per gallon in 5-10 years...

  • "They predict that offshore drilling "could" decrease the cost of gasoline by 4-5¢ per gallon in 5-10 years" Source please? See my comment below on ECPA phase III survey to see why I am doubting the 4-5 cents projection.

The source for the information of how much a combination of air pressure AND tune-ups (which is what Obama alluded to... not just air) is admittedly (by the site themselves) not up to date. Arguments based on BAD data, cannot be GOOD arguments, just misinformed opinion.

  • Do you actually believe that the laws of physics have changed since that report was published? Low tire pressure decreases fuel economy just as much now as it did before. Fuel injection does not change the dynamics of that problem...

  • You keep harping on something I never claimed. I encourage you to read more carefully and to stop ducking the question about where you source your information about the projected benefit of offshore drilling. A 4-5 cent reduction in gas prices seems ridiculously low to me based on what I have read.

Or, you could just continue to argue with whatever fictional positions you would like to invent for me.

  • From the OCS (eia.doe gov):

The projections in the OCS access case indicate that access to the Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Gulf regions would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030. Because oil prices are determined on the international market, however, any impact on average wellhead prices is expected to be insignificant.

  • Thank you kindly for the source.

I read the AEO2007 document your information was taken from. It never stated a 4-5 cent reduction in gas prices that I could find. Just a projected average reduction of 1.6% from the time period of 2012 to 2030 in the price of oil. Did you extrapolate the impact on gas prices?

It assumes a lapse of drilling ban in 2012 with no production until 2017. Not a congressional repeal in 2008.

Also it discusses only lower 48 OCS resources adding 18 Billion barrels.

  • Sorry jokertim777. I have not been able to dig up the source that mentions the price savings would be 4-5¢ per gallon. If I find it, I will try to show you how to find it. It's hard to do though since YouTube doesn't allow links.

Every source I found while looking tonight mentions that the savings will be "insignificant" I think we can both agree that a 4-5¢ per gallon savings in a decade could be considered insignificant. 18 Billion sounds like a lot, but it isn't in the scheme of things

  • I don't need a 16 cent drop in gas. I need a 3 DOLLAR drop in gas.

  • Good luck with that. You had that when a non Oil President was in office. When Clinton left office, gasoline prices were 94.9¢/gallon. Now that GW and Cheney, who both made huge profits from the Oil industry, have had their way, Big Oil is raking in HUGE profits and pump prices aren't likely to drop below $3/gallon. Offshore drilling is not going to benefit your pump prices. It is going to benefit Big Oil. Why would they want to decrease their profits???

  • nightrider-gasoline at 94.9 in feb 2001? try 1.70,by december that same year it had dropped to 1.10 under prez bush. it didnt reach 2.0 until the summer of 2004

  • LOL Do you live in California. Your prices may not have matched what the rest of the country was paying in 2000. I maintain fuel logs for all my cars and have so for decades. I can list the price at the pump for almost every week during the Clinton and Bush years. GW came into office with low pump prices and a huge budget surplus. He will be leaving office with high pump prices and record deficits. You should be proud...

  • Actually I googled the national avg (i guess it's like global warming, using averages isn't the best way to report a statistice)

If 911 had happened in 1999 instead of 2001, the surplus would have been impacted as well.

New York alone lost 5 billion, our company couldnt fly for a week. with the changes of expenses to protect our country, fund a war in afghanistan and iraq, what would you expect?

  • Actually the budget surplus had already been squandered before 911 with the tax giveaways to the wealthy. 911 had nothing to do with the mess that GW has created. Iraq was a war of choice and had nothing to do with 911. So the $12 BILLION spent each month on Iraq have been a total waste as well. The blunders and waste by the Republican leadership is bankrupting our country and has decreased the value of our dollar and clout worldwide. That too has impacted the prices at the pump...

  • Nightrider - saying the iraq war was a "war of choice" and that it had nothing to do with 911 is like saying "inflating your tires will conserve the same amount of oil that john mccain wants to drill for"

I dont think you totally understand why we removed saddam. you wouldn't say that the war was a waste if you put the value of the freed iraqis, the alliance created in the m.e. and the security of knowing that saddam doesn't have wmd's and cant pass them to a terrorist group

  • If we end up killing more Iraqis than Saddam killed, does that make us better than him? The conditions in Iraq are far worse now after 5 years of fighting than they were before we invaded/occupied Iraq. Saddam was contained. The weapons inspectors confirmed that there were no WMDs. The invasion of Iraq was a war of choice which diverted our attention away from those who actually attacked us. And now we are so overstretched, we cannot even aid our ally Georgia. We can't protect our allies...

  • The Weapons Inspectors were turned away 6 times. Why do you think they didn't find anything when they finally got in?

  • Please spare us. If you use Google, you can find that the weapons inspectors were on the ground and the Iraqis were cooperating with us. They found nothing. It didn't matter. GW was going to war no matter what. Then once Saddam was gone, they confirmed that there were no WMDs just as they had been told. That was never the reason GW wanted to go in anyway. That was the excuse he used though, but it was always about oil...

  • Google:

The history of Unicom was characterized by Iraq's persistent refusal to co-operate with the team, and incident after incident of apparent obstruction and deceit.

The inspectors said they were not provided with "unfettered access" to any site in the country, as had been agreed.

Inspectors were frequently turned away at the door - as was the case at Saddam Hussein's presidential palaces. By December 1997, inspectors said they had been formally told that these sites were off limits.

  • 1997???

The weapons inspectors had unfettered access to Iraq's weapons and sites in 2002 and 2003. There were no games being played by the Iraqis. Your documents are a bit outdated...

Do a search on David Kay and Hans Blix if you want to know the truth on the ground before and after our invasion in 2003. You might finally learn that you have been lied to and have been fooled for a very long time...

  • Lets see, unfettered access to iraqs weapons and sites in 2002 and 2003? after 11 years of attempting access wouldn't that be considered sexual harrassment?

  • I have no clue where sexual harrassment comes into this discussion. Your mind works in mysterious ways...

  • More Google

On other occasions, the Unicom teams would be kept waiting at the front gates to sites, they reported, while trucks and equipment left by the back.

One of the major problems the inspection team confronted was the dual nature of many of the sites they inspected.

It was suspected that fomenters and centrifuges used every day in dairies, wineries and pharmaceutical houses were quickly converted for churning out weapons, and then switched back to innocent purposes.

  • More outdated documents. Do you know that your own god GW has admitted that Iraq's WMD program had been dismantled back in 1991???

  • Bush admits that Iraq Had Nothing To Do With 9/11

    watch?v=f_A77N5WKWM

  • nightrider-bush admits that iraq had nothing to do with 911.

newsflash - no one has said that iraq was involved with 911.

might want to read the timestamp on that one. what is at stake is that 19 terrorist took down a city in america, impacted our economy and almost bankrupted our airlines industry.

with that at stake, president bush and tony blair agreed that terrorist would celebrate in this tragedy and attempt a bigger attack next time. they just might seek wmds and who had them

  • Now GW has to admit that Iraq had nothing to do with 911. But on the run-up to his misguided invasion, he wanted everyone to believe that Saddam was behind it in order to promote his little war and he was successful with 70% of the population. Luckily many have realized by now that they were deceived. Unfortunately, about 30% of our population still believes the lies and continue to be apologizists for GW's destructive and divisive agendas. Unfortunately, some will refuse to learn the truth.

  • nightrider - where do you get your newz? "the run-up to the invasion, he wanted everyone to believe that saddam was behind it"?

Who? in the entire administration, I'll even let you expand that to radio talking heads, tied saddam to 911.

the closest you will get is cheney on meet the press (2) appearances, where all that was said is that "we just dont know"

those words "we just dont know" are meant to deceive you, nightrider, gas will climb to $10.00 a gal, "we just dont know"

  • Funny that. GW, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfield all were saying that we needed to invade Iraq and said: ""We don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud". They blitzed the Sunday talk shows to push their drumbeats for war even with all the evidence against what they were marketing. They cherry-picked the evidence to promote the invasion and ignored all evidence that could have been used to stop it. They wanted the war and they got it...

  • You go right ahead and keep on believing that, Obviously you don't want to believe what 95% of what you find on GOOGLE about the Inspectors being stalled, turned, and told where they could or could not look.

  • When you do research on Google, it is often helpful to look at the date/time stamp on the articles that you read. If the articles were written in 1997, then they can't really be used as evidence for what happened in 2002-2003. A lot of things changed in those years...

  • I always check the date/time whenever it is possible. And I always read at lease 5 different articles on a subject so to get past all the bias. I also followed it at rhe time and kept up with follow-up reports.

  • So why did you use an article from 1997 as proof to what the weapons inspectors were reporting on the ground in 2002-2003? The article from 1997 had no way of predicting actions of the future 5-6 years later..

  • Yet these are the same people that want us to go into Darfur.

  • Right. Not likely. These are the same people who want us to go into Iran and Russia...

  • saying that the iraq war was a "war of choice" and had nothing to do with 911 is the same as saying "inflating your tires will save as much fuel as john mccain wants to drill for"

the value of the dollar does have an impact on crude, but so does the world market.

Your leader believes he can get things done with just words. word that we would have opened up the areas for drilling would have done just as much in reducing the price of gas as inflating your tires

  • Perhaps you missed the memo. There were no WMDs, Saddam had no ties to Al Quaida, Iraq had nothing to do with 911 and was no threat to us. Most of the 911 hijackers came from our ally Saudi Arabia. You have bought the lie apparently. Oil produced here goes into the international pool and sold at market prices. Any small amount we can add to the pool can be removed from it by other oil producing nations. No matter what we find, experts believe it will have almost no impact on oil prices...

  • And look at the price jump the month of Hurricane Katrina, and then how it climbed once Nancy Pelosi got involved.

  • Perhaps you are too young to realize this, but the Oil companies used any and every excuse for decades to increase the prices of oil. Then they were always slow to lower prices. A hurricane rips through the Atlantic. Raise prices. The hurricane caused no damage, wait a month and then slowly lower prices. The Oil Companies are in the business of maximizing profits. They aren't in the business of cutting the price of fuel as low as possible. It is not in their business model to do so...

  • "Perhaps you are too young to realize this" I'm the same age you are. And I do remember it well. And Hurricane Katrina did plenty of damage across 3 states. You only hear about New Orleans. I also believe Katrina killed the housing market.

  • Are you getting your news strictly from FOX "News"? That might explain why your "evidence" doesn't match the reality on the ground. The housing crisis was caused by deregulation and predatory sub-prime lending practices. Katrina had nothing to do with it...

  • I was the reality on the ground. I'm getting the news from my working for Re/Max since 1991. The lending practice was going on long before Katrina and long after it. Katrina hit Aug. 2005 and gas prices spiked. Home sales are always way down during the winter months. March is a high sales month for Real Estate, at the same time gas prices went back up to the Katrina spike prices, and sales for March 2005 Real Estate were way down. Homes were harder to sell, home values fell.

  • But you are confusing cause and effect here. Katrina is still a destroyed city 3 years after the fact even though GW promised the largest rebuilding effort the world had ever seen. As soon as the cameras went away, the pledge did too...

But the housing prices plummeted after foreclosures exploded. Those foreclosures are caused by predatory lending practices nationwide causedc by deregulation of the industry. The foreclosures nationwide had no connection to Katrina...

  • Typo Correction. New Orleans is still a destroyed city 3 years after the fact...

  • nrxp1-n.o. still a destroyed city 3 years after..

being home to fleeing lousianians, i get to hear the horror stories from the people who still have ties there. Not one of them blames bush. the fact that n.o. could be wiped out again tends to keep the investors out of the rebuilding process.

it's not the state didn't get the money, it's not that the president wouldn't support the rebuilding, it's the investors and the lousianians who have given up on n.o.

  • Not hardly. GW promised a rebuilding effort like the world had never seen. He didn't lie. The rebuilding process has yet to be seen by the world. It never amounted to a can of beans. There are a great many who want to rebuild, but the red tape has prevented them from moving forward. These people are living in limbo, a living hell. They were ignored by their own government. That will be GW's legacy. He rewarded his wealthy base and ignored those in need. Hopefully he will burn in hell..

  • nightrider-think about how you analyze one situation compared to another. was president bush suppose to stand on the rubble of new orleans and say that this was a blessing. this storm uprooted all of the poverty stricken folk and helped relocate them to better places. dont come back to this sunken crescent, it never should have been built in the first place!

instead he gave hope to those who wanted to rebuild. guess what, they dont want to rebuild, they dont want to come back

  • nightrider-in your previous arg; your points were all about the lies and tactics bush used to coerce us into iraq, now your complaint is that bush isnt coercing us back into new orleans only to be wiped out by the big one. government can not make you safe in a sunken city next to the best incubater for hurricanes in the world. i think that job was left to the simpson creators with their dome over springfield, but even they couldn't control the sink holes

  • Look, it is not up for you to decide where people can and can't live. If GW hadn't planned on helping the people rebuild, he should not have promised it to them. He should have told them that the government would be moving them to some place else. He should not have offered them hope, then t
