It's easy to say "let the bad businesses fail" as a way of allowing poor business managers to be punished by the free market. If the only people affected by the collapse of those companies were the owners, managers, and shareholders then it'd be an easy decision. But the fallout is larger than that, we're talking about hundreds and thousands of jobs being lost . But the banks are paying the money back with interest, so taxpayers might actually make a profit off of those loans.

I often see those on the right claiming that FDR's New Deal and massive government spending didn't end the great depression, it was WW2 that did. They still don't realize that WW2 was another example of *massive* government spending. If the government took all those planes and tanks and ships we built and dumped them into a ditch somewhere, it would have had the same economic impact. Plus the top US income tax rate during the war was 80%, while in Nazi Germany it was only 17%.

The war spending built up our manufacturing capacity, but capacity means nothing without customers. The world's manufacturing capability was destroyed by bombs and we where the only ones with factories. In the 40's money stayed in the US where US workers bought US goods. Today, goods are produced by foreign countries, and money flows out of the US. Keynesian economics only works in theory based on a limited set of outdated assumptions. It does not work in a our modern global economy.
True, but in the late 40's and 50's the economy and housing boom was largely driven by the American soldiers returning home and spending their wages from the war. Outsourcing has eliminated US jobs, and they are never coming back. But that is a consequence of the free market. The only thing that stands to prevent more jobs from being outsourced are the laws of physics, and government intervention. And business leaders are working every day to overcome both of those obstacles.
Yeahhh....I'm pretty sure the fact that one can get foreign workers to do the same jobs for ten cents an hour has a lot more to do with it. But like you said, businesses moving offshore is indeed evidence that America harbors an anti-business climate. So is that why they went to communist China? If you are in the US illegally and you are in labor, your baby will be born in which ever hospital you go to. This is why our hospitals have such a hard time staying solvent. Too many people with no health insurance or means to pay their own way. Health insurance is expensive because there is no interstate competition between the health insurance companies.

If not for an individual mandate, a ban on health insurance companies denying customers due to them having pre-existing conditions would never work, as healthy people would only buy insurance when they got sick -- leaving those who are sick and who need health care with a poorly funded system. An individual mandate is the only way to ensure a well-funded health care system that is accessible for all.

It's easy to say "let the bad businesses fail" as a way of allowing poor business managers to be punished by the free market. If the only people affected by the collapse of those companies were the owners, managers, and shareholders then it'd be an easy decision. But the fallout is larger than that, we're talking about hundreds and thousands of jobs being lost . But the banks are paying the money back with interest, so taxpayers might actually make a profit off of those loans.

I often see those on the right claiming that FDR's New Deal and massive government spending didn't end the great depression, it was WW2 that did. They still don't realize that WW2 was another example of *massive* government spending. If the government took all those planes and tanks and ships we built and dumped them into a ditch somewhere, it would have had the same economic impact. Plus the top US income tax rate during the war was 80%, while in Nazi Germany it was only 17%.

The war spending built up our manufacturing capacity, but capacity means nothing without customers. The world's manufacturing capability was destroyed by bombs and we where the only ones with factories. In the 40's money stayed in the US where US workers bought US goods. Today, goods are produced by foreign countries, and money flows out of the US. Keynesian economics only works in theory based on a limited set of outdated assumptions. It does not work in a our modern global economy.

True, but in the late 40's and 50's the economy and housing boom was largely driven by the American soldiers returning home and spending their wages from the war. Outsourcing has eliminated US jobs, and they are never coming back. But that is a consequence of the free market. The only thing that stands to prevent more jobs from being outsourced are the laws of physics, and government intervention. And business leaders are working every day to overcome both of those obstacles.

If you are in the US illegally and you are in labor, your baby will be born in which ever hospital you go to. This is why our hospitals have such a hard time staying solvent. Too many people with no health insurance or means to pay their own way. Health insurance is expensive because there is no interstate competition between the health insurance companies.

He will understandably water down American policy and exceptionalism until we are just another country. How can you complain with that as an american. If not for an individual mandate, a ban on health insurance companies denying customers due to them having pre-existing conditions would never work, as healthy people would only buy insurance when they got sick -- leaving those who are sick and who need health care with a poorly funded system. An individual mandate is the only way to ensure a well-funded health care system that is accessible for all.
