I always say that we need to honour those who built the roads in the past where we can walk on now. Angela Lansbury is one of those. It fills my heart with joy to see all those actors, actresses, producers and writers giving her a standing ovation and thereby honouring her and the work she has done.
@doglover427 I know it's been a long time since you post this comment, but just in case if you still want to know, the other woman received 5 tony awards is Julie Harris, she won 5 all for Leading Actress in a Play
There are a lot of talented women on Broadway that we call the Leading Ladies -- Ethel Merman, Carol Channing, Patti Lupone, Bernadette Peters -- But none are as respected and looked up to as Angela Lansbury. What a fantastic, elegant, and humble woman.
She's a magnificent actress. She should have had the triple crown of acting: the Oscar for The Manchurian Candidate and Gaslight and at least 4 Emmys for Murder, she wrote. I just simply love her.
I saw Blithe Spirit. She was, as can be expected, fantastic. So was Rupert Everett. However, the best performance in the show was the girl playing Edith. I can't remember her name, but it was her Broadway debut and she was marvelous.
Did the other nominees thought that they had a chance against Angela? I guess they just went there to be polite, because they must have knew that they wouldn't need to stand up.
Love Angela Lansbury. So classy and humble. Now, if only she could win an Emmy. The woman's been nominated at least 17 times and NEVER won. HOW CRAZY IS THAT?????????
I love Angela I am so glad that she won. I saw Blithe Spirit when I was in NYC, and she was fantastic. It is such a shame that she has been nominated for an Oscar so many times and not won. It w.ould be great if Hollywood gave her one antastic role that earnt her that accolade
Angela is my favourite actress. When i found out she won, i couldn't stop screaming! i was so happy. She deserves this more than anyone. And doesnt she look fantastic!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU ANGELA XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Back again...Good for Angela! The Tonys appreciate a really great talent, unlike the Oscars and Emmys. She should have won an Oscar for Manchurian Candidate and should have won several Emmys for Murder She Wrote. Shes truly a national treasure!
I love Angela Lansbury, she absolutely deserves all the accolades, she's a lovely woman with a great heart, I've loved her since I was a child, I watched Murder She Wrote, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Manchurian Candidate, she's a brilliant actress, in the true meaning of the world, she's a world treasure.
Can U believe this very talented woman never won an Oscar! but at least she has been thoroughly awarded for her work on stage. SHE IS A LEGEND Forever!!
not just a Broadway treasure... not just a national treasure.. miss Lansbury is an international treasure, fully deserving her fifth win. Such a lovely lady with so much talent! Bless you, Angela! And congratulations!
Congratulations from a fan in the U.K. Isn't it time the British Government bestowed a "Damehood" on Angela Lansbury? If they can do it for Elizabeth Taylor and Julie Andrews (both Brits living abroad) I'm sure they could do it for her. A true living legend of the theatre ... what an achievement to win a 5th TONY award at 80+!!
It is my understanding that she is Commander of the Order rather than DAME Commander because she, unlike Taylor and Andrews, gave up her English citizenship. I believe that Elizabeth Taylor retains duel citizenship. HOWEVER, they could make her an honorary Dame without stretching the rules. This has been spoken of for years and should have happened a decade ago!
