Thanks to Hetalia I've gained many foreign friends. Some of them started to be interested in Poland thanks to APH . I must say that before I joined this fandom I didn't care much about countries like for example Latvia or Finland, now I love reading books about different cultures becouse it makes me think about belowed characters. That's in my opinion the best thing in APH. I just believe in people's intelligence and I think that nobody takes Hetalia's story seriously.

Some things shouldn't be mixed and I love Hetalia as a comedy. WWII was awful but still it's nice to see series like 'Allo 'Allo! as something different. Everything would be wrong if the authors added things like Holocaust in the backgroung
I like Hetalia Poland as he is. He's funny, he made interesting character progress during story. Sometimes fandom flattens him a bit too much, but he's one of my favourite characters - and not becouse I'm Polish.

Where does it say he dresses like a girl? I see this everywhere in the fandom but I can only recall one time when he and Liet were dressed in school girl outfits. Also, I don't see why anyone would be endorsing such a thing. Poles aren't even all that nice to crossdressers! I don't know a single male pole, and I know plenty, who would ever try it, and nearly all of them find it strange. If any country should be a crossdressing person, it should be Taiwan, because people there are ok with it.
Or at least, it seems to happen there often. The movie "Middle Sexes" talks a lot about Taiwan and their 'middle sexes'.

not sure really. i mean i am half polish. it mostly school girl uniform he wears and a santa dress. though alot of the males dress like girls when they are younger. Though i found out that liet and pol were 'married' due to the Union they had called the Polish-Lithuianian Commonwealth. oh well we may never know why he dresses like a girl.
In the original characters designs, Poland (and Lithuania too) was supposed to be a girl. The author just stuck with the character design but changed the gender (laziness?). That's at least what I gathered....

Poland is a VERY proud and religious country, so cross-dressing makes even less sense than with any country.
If any country should be a cross-dresser it should be, I think it was Taiwan. Because that country, which again I am not sure but think it's Taiwan, is pretty well known for their transvestites. And Japan too has it's Okamas, professional cross-dressers. But in Poland? We're mean enough to gays(not as much as the US, I think, lol)how would the population of poland react to cross-dressing?

That is why I am disappointed that the Anime, instead of seeing whether the comic was being accurate or not, is just following the comic completely. For example, remember how Liet tried to warn Poland in WW2? As if. We weren't so friendly with each other then. And Hima makes it seem as if Poland started the commonwealth, while it was all Lithuania's idea. And he doesn't show the beautiful friendship between Hungary and Poland at all. Hungarians don't like Austrians that much either.

Well it is shown that America weights way more than the other countries. But I want to take Hetalia a little seriously, because it is an awesome idea. This idea of personifying countries and making them do things that are accurate to their history is just such an awesome idea, and if it was made into like a movie, I'm sure many people would like it. I kind of understand where you're coming from, but.... I could never learn history when taught in school because for some reason, it would never stick. I tried so hard to remember facts and such, but couldn't. Hetalia came out, and it gave me a way to remember facts.... Though I do agree that it's really not quite as serious about certain subjects than it should be.

It is. I view the hetalia characters as characters, for the most part, but I like to learn at least a bit of their history. I don't like saying, "Oh, Polish people are all crossdressers" especially since Poland is an extremely anti-gay country. But the girls who think like that are really irritating, and don't usually know a whole lot about history in the first place.

Hmm, I don't know if its my place to jump into this conversation, but I wanted to put in my own theory of why Poland is a crossdresser: I think that maybe its because one of the most prevalant Polish stereotypes is that all Poles are stupid (Cavalry against tanks? WTF? Even if that was just bravery, and all countries in the same situation would have done the same . . .). But if Poland is to be stupid . . . what is the 'stupidest' group of people you can think of? Shallow schoolgirls/Valleygirls.
I'd like to say only one thing: Polish cavalry DIDN'T run against the tanks, it's a myth expanded by nazi (and later communist) propaganda (you can look at Wikipedia article about Charge at Krojanty to get more info).
I know; it's just a metaphor for the technological inferiority. The Poles may have had more than cavalry, but their war materials still weren't of the same stock of the Nazis.

My avi's on a few sites are female with male clothing, and I instinctually prefer to buy clothing that resembles male clothes (things that have ties, look like suits) But as I said it makes no sense for Poland to be a cross-dresser. But we actually don't see him around people he doesn't know that often, so alot of people don't realize that. I think it was in his profile or something in the webcomic, and it was (very, very briefly) touched on when he talked to Sweden in world series.
to be honest I HATE Russia/Baltics and it's strange popularity made Liet/Pol my Hetalia OTP. I think that Russia hurting Liet and his brothers isn't cute or sweet, it even isn't very funny when you think about real history behind that.

I don't understand to things: First, why Poland likes to put on miniskirts (but how can I complain about that, like, seriously?! He's so cute!)
Second: Why does Poles are supposed to be stupid? I never heard this stereotype of my whole life before, dunno if it's because I'm from Canada or something else... I always tough people from Europe, especially the East, were pretty briliant and resourceful.

Thanks to Hetalia I've gained many foreign friends. Some of them started to be interested in Poland thanks to APH . I must say that before I joined this fandom I didn't care much about countries like for example Latvia or Finland, now I love reading books about different cultures becouse it makes me think about belowed characters. That's in my opinion the best thing in APH. I just believe in people's intelligence and I think that nobody takes Hetalia's story seriously.

Some things shouldn't be mixed and I love Hetalia as a comedy. WWII was awful but still it's nice to see series like 'Allo 'Allo! as something different. Everything would be wrong if the authors added things like Holocaust in the backgroung
I like Hetalia Poland as he is. He's funny, he made interesting character progress during story. Sometimes fandom flattens him a bit too much, but he's one of my favourite characters - and not becouse I'm Polish.

I hate when people are too serious about APH... this manga isn't history book, it's like different universe inspired by real world and I love it this way.
My family suffered a lot from Nazis and Soviets but last thing that I would like to see is APH fanfiction about events like Katyń massacre.

Where does it say he dresses like a girl? I see this everywhere in the fandom but I can only recall one time when he and Liet were dressed in school girl outfits. Also, I don't see why anyone would be endorsing such a thing. Poles aren't even all that nice to crossdressers! I don't know a single male pole, and I know plenty, who would ever try it, and nearly all of them find it strange. If any country should be a crossdressing person, it should be Taiwan, because people there are ok with it.

Or at least, it seems to happen there often. The movie "Middle Sexes" talks a lot about Taiwan and their 'middle sexes'.
But it makes no sense for Poland. I can understand the whole valley girl talk, and the selfishness, cause we polish are a bit like that and we are lazy. But crossdressing? It's cute but it makes no sense to say Feliks is one.

Though i found out that liet and pol were 'married' due to the Union they had called the Polish-Lithuianian Commonwealth. oh well we may never know why he dresses like a girl.

In the original characters designs, Poland (and Lithuania too) was supposed to be a girl. The author just stuck with the character design but changed the gender (laziness?). That's at least what I gathered....

@dragonofthedarknight Actually, it's included in his character notes, somewhere. I couldn't tell you exactly. He crossdresses because he was originally going to be a girl. His gender changed, but the skirts stayed.

And even for xmas Himaruya didn't draw him in a sexy santa costume, he drew him in normal clothes. Poland just happened to wear something girly twice and everyone has to make him a cross-dresser. Poland is a VERY proud and religious country, so cross-dressing makes even less sense than with any country.
If any country should be a cross-dresser it should be, I think it was Taiwan. Because that country, which again I am not sure but think it's Taiwan, is pretty well known for their transvestites. And Japan too has it's Okamas, professional cross-dressers. But in Poland? We're mean enough to gays(not as much as the US, I think, lol)how would the population of poland react to cross-dressing?

That is why I am disappointed that the Anime, instead of seeing whether the comic was being accurate or not, is just following the comic completely. For example, remember how Liet tried to warn Poland in WW2? As if. We weren't so friendly with each other then. And Hima makes it seem as if Poland started the commonwealth, while it was all Lithuania's idea. And he doesn't show the beautiful friendship between Hungary and Poland at all. Hungarians don't like Austrians that much either.

Well it is shown that America weights way more than the other countries. But I want to take Hetalia a little seriously, because it is an awesome idea. This idea of personifying countries and making them do things that are accurate to their history is just such an awesome idea, and if it was made into like a movie, I'm sure many people would like it. It's thanks to Hetalia that I am such a History fan now.

I kind of understand where you're coming from, but.... I could never learn history when taught in school because for some reason, it would never stick. I tried so hard to remember facts and such, but couldn't. Hetalia came out, and it gave me a way to remember facts.... Though I do agree that it's really not quite as serious about certain subjects than it should be.

It is. I view the hetalia characters as characters, for the most part, but I like to learn at least a bit of their history. I don't like saying, "Oh, Polish people are all crossdressers" especially since Poland is an extremely anti-gay country. But the girls who think like that are really irritating, and don't usually know a whole lot about history in the first place.

Whether it is or isn't, I still love the character. Poland is really cute, and very entertaining.... I just wish Himaruya had made him a bit smarter, and a bit more... well.... controlling. And a bit more serious, while we're at it..... Poland has one of the world's largest libraries, and one of the largest universities. He shouldn't be as stupid as he's made out to be.

This is true... though my father has talked to several Russia women, and they all said that the biggest problem in their marriage was that their husbands would drink quite often. My family has been to tons of other countries, but I, alas, have not left America. In fact, my aunt lives in Italy right now... and they're hardly stupid. and just so you know I don't mind cross-dressing at all. In fact I like cross-dressing. My avi's on a few sites are female with male clothing, and I instinctually prefer to buy clothing that resembles male clothes (things that have ties, look like suits) But as I said it makes no sense for Poland to be a cross-dresser. But we actually don't see him around people he doesn't know that often, so alot of people don't realize that. I think it was in his profile or something in the webcomic, and it was (very, very briefly) touched on when he talked to Sweden in world series.

Well I think it isn't quite clear if Poland is girl or a boy - in Polish language Poland is feminine, but maybe author makes it girl r boy as he likes it in the specific moment?
