  • My daughter had this done weekly as she was a micro preemie, and it does not hurt. it is uncomfortable but they go really quickly and the baby is fine after. my daughter had stage 3 ROP and had to have laser eye surgery after she was released. Without the exam she could be blind right now because it would not have been detected. So far she has 20/20 vision =0) Oh and the pupil is big because they put dilating drops in so they can see the retinas!

  • aww that make me sad the baby have to go through all this but as a parent got to do what they got to do and make their babie healthly ill do the same thing. ur're in my thought n prayer i hope this baby get better. much love from ohio girl susanna

  • @ILIKESFLAN fuck you.

  • not to mention the screams of the poor child, no one has any compassion for the youngest and the most innocent.....

  • I understand the reasons for this, but can't they incorporate the kangaroo care method in this or something? I mean these kids have to deal with enough, it must hurt or at least be uncomfortable for them to go through this. Also I wonder if this does more harm then good, their eyes are not as developed at this stage and I assume that too much exposure to the light might actually do damage. Like when an adult stares into the sun? Does anyone agree?

  • Oh look at those cute eyes, I feel so bad..

  • The music is worse than the eye torture

  • Je mi 31 let ,,ale to dle video mě dostalo brečel jsem jak malí kluk .Velkou úctu hlavně sestrám a lidém kteří se starají o tak drobounká stvoření .

  • i know it was forthe best and it had to be done but im not going to lie it looks horrible.

  • bless this child, because he/she scream his/her lungs out, hear that, it shows he/she will be strong and healthy and is has a will of power to live...so sad people writting negative messages up in here, instead positive... u go little one show them u can :)

  • Ohh tadinhoooo, que dó.

  • very rough head turns and body turns from the staff there of course parents want to do what is best in the long run,and it's probably for the best that these little ones eyes can be checked for damage, but the bedside manner is ??? i would hate to find out my child was treated so rough.

  • en le povre

  • Didnt like that

  • WHAT DO THEY DO ???????this is cruel torture !!!you belong in hell !!!

  • poor lil baby :(

  • so sickening.

  • When they have its eye open it looks like a baby zombie.

  • When babys r in the stomic do they shit inside the mom and the mom takes a bigger shit cuz she's shiten out 2 shits in one??????????????????????????

  • @Ashleylovesanimals LMAO! WTF?

  • I don´t understand why is it that the nurse has surgical globes to touch the baby, but the oftalmologist doesn´t wear any globes and is in contact with the part of the baby´s eyes constantly?

  • My boys had 2 go through this every few weeks to check for retinopathy of prematurity, they were born @ 28 weeks we were told we could stay with them but it was unpleasant so we used to sit in the 'lounge' we could here them crying & it was really heartbreaking looking @ this I'm glade we did caught on time it is treatable but lookily ours never had it.

  • Thats Tiny

  • my babies had to go though this procedure every few weeks, they're looking for 'retinopathy of prematurity' they always advised us that we could stay with them if we wanted but it was unpleasant looking at this I'm glad I didn't we used to hear ours from the other room & it was really heartbreaking. but caught on time it is treatable other wise they could go blind thankfully ours never had it.

  • You're probably right, but you have to admit it looks rather gruesome. Thankfully the baby won't remember this and the parents won't get to see this (I hope!)

  • I really loved how they held the babies and comforted them after the procedure! <3

  • I KNOW WHY DID THIS HAPPEN YOU KNOW WHY ?? WHEN A WOMAN IS PRAGNEN NO ONE SHOULD TOCH ER YES TOCH + SHOULD NOT SLEEP ON HER SIDE OR THIS WILL HAPPEN AND THE 6TH MONTH SHE SHOULD BE VARY CAREFULL

  • how many weeks they do examination for her eyes?

  • How much did that procedure cost...?

  • Czech!

  • Izrael?

  • It's probably the right thing to do for their health and whatever but...

What the fuck? They're handling the kid like it's some sort of ragdoll, and that light's so fucking bright it hurt MY eyes, imagine what it feels like for the kid.

  • LEAVE HIM ALONE U MEAN IGNORANT BITCHES...UR HURTING HIM!!! A BABY DUS HAVE FEELINGS AND ITS HURTING HIM! NO WONDER HE'S WORN OUT SO FAST, THEN THEY ARE TOSING HIM LIKE A FUCKING RAG DOLL...THAT POOR BABY IS LITERALLY SCREAMING IN PAIN!!! ARE U FUCKING KIDDING ME..IM NOT YELLING AT THE PARENTS BUT TO THE FUCKING NURSES OR DOCTORS.....HOW WOULD THEY LIKE IT IF THEY HAD THAT STUCK IN THEIR EYE?? WOULDNT LIKE IT TO MUCH....THERE IS A DIFFRENT WAY AND METHOD TO DO EYE EXAMS TODAY..

  • Which method suitable for newborns are you talking about?

  • far out

  • it's saying "it's hurting my bloody eyes remove the light from my eyes BITCH"!!

  • These are probably the same type of clamps used in Lasix surgery..and tho it looks gross, the clamps do not hurt at all. My preemie granddaughter (at 30 wks) has had this exam twice but daughter did not want to witness it. Thanks for uploading the video. The baby is doing fine and now at 3-1/2 mos and almost 8 lbs, is thriving!!

  • Some premature babys will develop disease called retonopathy of prematuritiy - severe ocular disease which can lead to blidness if not treated properly and in time.Severly premature child develop the disease earlier then less seee premature - this si why som childerna re axamined early some lastter. The development is rapid (in weeks) and the treatment (laser or cryotherapy) must be done now!.

  • @JHHycl looks painful bt necessary. 4 da baby's health it totally agree with you

  • Can JHHycl pleeeze xplain Y Y Y this procedure cant wait? this only shows how they r tortured with those ugly clamps or what ever they r called and that light so bright!... that one baby looks like one eye is bigger than the other cuz those ugly thing streached his lil eyelid skin, pooor babys, put some close caption xplainin sumthin cuz this video is not informative at all, its just torture to me...and how often is this done and Y? u said 10min, per eye?...i was blessed to have a healthy baby

  • Not gonna lie, the music had me groovin'

  • @SuperInfective lmao me too

  • ohh,.... even the nappy is 2 big for the babbyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • i had that done to my eyes when i was born as well, my mother had me at 26 weeks

  • aww poor thingg ... they were treating it as if it was a doll u have to treat babies relly softlyy specially premature babies...

  • really poor baby...

  • very very poor baby

  • OMG!!!! Doesn't that bright light hurt there little eyes at there age? I don't know of any one that has had that done to there baby as a little one!!! Hope they don't have wide eyes as an adult because of it!! Poor little thing!!!

  • fasinating!

  • aaawww so cute! and heartbreaking

  • And this couln't wait a couple of months? As if the poor things aren't stressed enough!

  • @Linnas79

No it couldnt - if you mis the right time for treatment (laser or cryotherapy of retina) the child will be blind for the resto of his life. Isnt the 10 minutes of discomfort worth it?

  • @JHHycl

Again if you was in shoes of parents- will you change 10 minustes of doscomfort of your baby for their sight, or not? Belive me-all parent go for signt of their children -I am sure you will make the same decision. Is it easy the criticise others and stand ond strong positions without having to carry the consequences of wrong decision..

  • I wish now he or she is totally ok!

  • brutal... poor little things....

  • I can see it now.

    "mommy why can't I see?"

"Well honey, you looked so uncomfortable that we decided to save you from a few minutes of discomfort so you could be blind for life."

    "Oh."

Yeah, I can see that sitting real well.

  • I know it is a necessary procedure and I appreciate what the doctors are doing. Just please be gentle and loving with God's little ones.

  • @mrjohnnynofear proof that god is a man, he sure fucked up humans.

  • got my first baby at 24 weeks and died after birth, wish ur baby always healthy and happy.

  • This is what my precious girl endured time and time again but I am so grateful for the fact that it was developed because she could have gone blind had it not been done. Her retinas were starting to detach and surgery had to be performed. She may have lost her peripheal vision but she can see all the wonders and beauties of the world

  • @SailinToMyLighthouse I am so happy to hear your little one has had the joy of being able to see. I wish you and her all the best!

  • It's harsh but they have to do it these babies must have tests to see if they would be able to see or not, blindness is not an option these babies deserve to see and will enjoy having the gift of vision someday. I hate to see them suffer i really do it makes me cry i wish them the best.

  • The NNU thought they were saving my 5 day old full term 3.2kg birth weight, no 02 dependant and demanding bottle feeding infant with normal test results with no signs of infection from possible sepsis. When sticking her veins to get a new IV into her for antibiotics, after 4 days of antibiotics & all tests coming back normal after 1 high white cell count at birth with no infection found that went away within 24 hours after prompt treatment of IV antibiotics.

  • After alot of screaming from failed iv sticks in search of a good vein that would take an IV for more antibiotics. NNU staff thought they were thinking in our 1st girls best interests in terms of kindess. When telling us we had 2 options a scalp iv for antibiotics they said is kinder then the other option we had thigh injections filled with antibiotics. Came back for shaven off hair & NNU staff had done IM Injections instead & NNU staff said she coped well with IM Injections.

  • Im sure the NICU thought they were saving these pre-term infants from future serious eyesight issues by checking early for eyesight issues they may be able to fix with lazer eye surgery. It may look uncomfortable for the babies.

But pre-term infants need eye checks in the NICU, before they go home from the NICU or life after the NICU as to maintain good eye health. As no eye checks for pre-term born children might mean missed eyes issues that could get worse for pre-term born children

  • uh my sion had ROP its sooo horrable watching it I felt soo bad for the little guy

  • omfg this is seriously child abuse!

  • @roomfullofdaisies This is not child abuse, it's a well-performed medical procedure necessary for determining if the neonate has Retinopothy of Prematurity. If they have ROP, the doctors can perform laser eye surgery to prevent the neonate from going blind.

  • i im a premature!! :D 1 month early!

  • este video es el mas doloroso k pude haber visto en toda mi vida

  • OMG OMG OMG NO GLOVES NO GLOVES!!!!

  • Oh Jesus - why glowes?

  • This girl seems to by from my coutry THe Czech republic where the care about the premature born children is one of the best in the whole world. So I absulely belive those doctors - they are really top in the whpoel world in premature care. So don´t be rude to them or scared about the girl she is surely o.k. now.

  • The Doctor have 2 be more soft with the babys. i had teears in my eyes when i have seen the baby crying .

  • i dont get why they needed to check the babies eyes. even if there was something wrong wtf are they gna do about it.

  • @1tonyota They check the neonate's eyes to determine if their retinas are damaged and if they can correct their vision with laser eye surgery. That's what they are going to do about it.

  • fuck dude....i would sue a hospital if they did this to my baby

  • No you wouldńt. I would kiss hand of doctor because without this necessary check you premature child could get blind - what do you think is better for the byby - 2 minutes of dicomfort or be blind for the rest of life. The doctors are loking for changes in their premature retina - there is no way how to do it diferently. If there are changes the eye has tobee treated - or the child get blind -

  • @DrNeoVize fuck that ok Dr what ever they r blinding the child with light and on top of that they put a magnafing glass over the childs eye with the light..... HELLO..... u put a magnafing glass over ur eye and shine a light over it and then tell me if it dnt burn the shit outta r eye ok "Dr. I dnt have a heart!"

  • @pressygirl08 The light does not damage the eyes. The ophthalmologist needs the magnifier so he can get a better view of the retina and determine if they are damaged, an ailment called Retinopathy of Prematurity. Without this exam, it cannot be determined if this baby can benefit from laser surgery, which could save his or her vision. Without this, many babies would be blind.

  • @kaylovshim ...and let your child be blind forever...or save his vision?

  • Premature babies really have more of a chance of going blind than a regular new born. Looks very painful though. I have a premature baby. I'm glad I wasn't at any of the eye exams. I couldn't bare to see her in pain like that.

  • wtf is that bitches problemits hurting da babyz eye uhhh!! ass holes they did the same 2 ma bby sister but exept they kept stiking needles in her

  • Least. Fitting. Music pairing. EVER.

  • Thanks for sharing this video! My parents told me that I was like bottle of an 8 oz cola when I was delivered premature. It must be hard for them to see me that way. I now have a great appreciation and respect for my parents.

  • I CRIED MY HEART OUT how could you out this on here

  • wow.. im sorry but i dont like this. at all.....

  • D: oh my.

  • this is sad hands would be nicer.... i dnt like this video but thankfully it survived

  • Why can't they use their fingers to hold open the babies eyes? It would seem a lot more humane.

  • I think this is great. NICU is such a special place to work the premies are so prescious and the nurses that care for them are stellar. It is an intricate important field. To help these otherwise non-viable babies become viable. its something special they do day in and day out around the clock. On the most special of the special are in this field. It is honorable and admirable to work in the NICU. As a nurse, I totally respect the NICU professionals

  • hi..!

well i think that i really hard to see

this kind of videos but its the true, this video just brokes my heart i supposse that its not bad the things that doctors are doing becouse its necesary dont be scary becouse maybe you or someone of your family pass of this kind of situations and maybe they dont know and really normaly take it easy

  • i know they have to do it to save their sight but I could not watch all the video just breaks my heart

  • i just wanna pick it up and give it a cuddle!

  • I wonder if the light is heavily magnified into the baby's eyes and might cause damage?

  • yes, because the doctors would totally do that. retard

  • Well, medicine sometimes is necessary even though it might cause potential damage. Eg. Radiation therapy.

Does it not make sense that the light would be magnified?

  • @ryanrenesis No, it doesn't.

  • As long as they know what they are doing, then there is nothing bad to be said they are doing what they were trained to do I know it might look cruel but that's how it is supposed to be done because they are trained.

  • i understand that procedures like these are necessary but they needa chill out with the light on the baby's eyes, real talk

  • so sad... =[

  • I understand it is brutal. It is horrible but it is very necessary. My baby was born at 26 weeks and had the procedure done one time in the NICU and one time after she came home. They dont feel anything...being held down is what makes them angry. Did you know Stevie Wonder was preemature and that is why he is blind? Nowadays that doesnt need to happen because of this procedure. Some of you guys are so ignorant! Babies cry when they get them immunizations! Thats child abuse then? Please!

  • 8 months baby I didnt cry too all nurses sall my game and went crazy atleast thats what I heard

  • I was 9 months, and fat as hell.

  • I was born premature.

    1 pound 12 oz.

  • this looks horrible! :( isnt that light bad for the babies eyes?

  • i was a premature baby.

  • i was too i was 7 months

  • me too!

i was 7 months, my brother 6 months and my oldest brother 8 months!

  • Este estudio se lo hacen a los bebitos prematuros porque pueden presentar retinopatia del prematuro que en sus casos mas graves ocasiona desprendimiento de retina y consecuentemente ceguera. Entre mas rapido se detecte se puede tratar...

  • omg i cant see it...oh...

  • slovakia?

  • czech republic

  • i like czech people

  • im czech

    where your from?

  • the real thing .... am saudi

  • hay no pobre bb...tan pekeñito y haciendole esas cosas...

  • I was a premature baby, and I had to go through this same thing. I am 23 years old now, a model, and getting a college degree in Early Childhood Education. I am also engaged to be married to the most amazing guy in the world. I am, in no way, a "freak" and neither will this child. This child will grow up probably smarter and more good-looking than you will ever be. Get a life, and perhaps some help because you seem like you're some sort of depressed and angry.

  • rofl that was a long ass speech, but at least i know my one-liner wasn't wasted!

  • I agree to that!

  • I had to go through that!!! My mom would tell the doctors "You betta not f**k up!" and cried at the same time. I hated doctors for years! Every time I saw a white coat, I freaked! Through it all, I'm here!!!

  • This is heart breaking to watch, but we aren't doctors, they are. Just have to pray for these little ones and pray we never have to experience what their parents have too

  • What disturbs me about this video is how cold and unemotional any of these workers are. They just do it and be done. No attempts at consoling the babies that are crying. My older daughter was born at 34 weeks, luckily the only thing wrong with her was some maintaining temperature issues. They checked her eyes, but there were NO instruments like the ones that these people are using. The lights had to hurt their eyes if not damaging. If it is a necessary thing, at least act like you care.

  • I understand what u mean, but are grown-ups consoled when undergoing an exam? No. Babies better learn that from the beginning. Why does everybody worry so much about babies and not about grown-ups? It's so annoying. Why does everybody think it's more of a tragedy if a baby get hurt than the homeless guy on the sidewalk? He smells bad and looks awful, but he used to be a rosy little baby and everybody cared so much a bout him. It's better if babies see people as they are from the start.

  • @birchfieldd1 The staff do care, and a great deal of research is done into the comfort of babies during this procedure. However, this procedure is extremely necessary, as it assists the pediatric ophthalmologist in determining if the neonate is going blind. The blindness is caused by ROP, Retinopothy of prematurity. The light does not damage their eyes, the eyesight damage is related to their prematurity and possible high oxygen levels used to maintain appropriate O2 saturations.

  • the one in the white is ruff as a mutha fucca

  • fucking brutal!

  • brutal

  • It's hurting there eyes with that damn light! :"(

  • that thing looks dead.

  • i am so freakin pissed thats bullshit. wtf are they doing? look at 4:07 thats strait from that movie SAW. they didnt do that to my baby.

  • Hey, you think they didn't do that to your baby?

You dont know what they do before they let you take your baby home, this is called ''assurance''. Meaning they want to make your baby live a long, wonderful life.

  • I know it's necessary but I still feel so bad

  • omg!!! poor baby!!!

    dats so horribleee!!!

why do they have to do that!!!

  • why do they have to look at the babies eyes? i feel really bad for them.... it looks painful... :(

  • aww i heard it screech so sadly sniff i i think im gonna crys...sniff... GAHHHHHH

  • @bishamon1461 because they wouldnt be able to see

  • cos hes premature.

  • horrible as it is but its the standard procedure, my son i s a premie too and me and my husband saw the same eye examination up close, it was a traumatic experience seeing our son doin the test but its better afterall.

  • thats horrible...0_O

  • Comment removed

  • A Clockwork Orange.

  • If you don't work/have been in NICU, please don't act like you understand This is a very common and necessary procedure for premature infants. The eye exam is done to assess for ROP- Retinopathy of Prematurity, which is unique to premature infants and will cause blindness. With the results of this exam, it can be determined if laser eye surgery is needed to prevent blindness. It doesn't hurt them, they have numbing gel in their eyes. They are more uncomfortable from being held for the procedure.

  • Comment removed

  • This procedure is completed by a qualified ophthalmologist. These experts have a great amount of experience and are well-qualified in this skill. Don't call them names..

It's a miracle of medicine that these babies are given the opportunity to have proper vision, without the eye exam they would certainly be blind.

And no...the exam does NOT ruin their eyesight and the light will not blind them. The only bright light that can threaten their sight are certain phototherapy lights and UV light.

  • I saw on TV now that i baby is born few months prematurly they can put them into a simulated womb, looks like incubator filled with fluid and plug him in and its like hes in the womb still closed eyes and fluid in the lungs etc

  • who would ever put sumthing so bad up like diz

  • eyesight.....

  • that's bullshit!

  • aggggggh!! god I can't even watch the whole thing! that looks so fuckin painful!! you can't tell me they do that to all of them! thats horrible! what do you need to do an eye exam on a baby for anyway? its not like they need to read or something!

  • FUCK THAT SHIT DUDE, i would kill anyone that touches my child that way and says it's for medical purposes! BULL SHIT! i would not be standing there holding the camera i'd be fucking someone up. i couldn't hadle that. My children are my life and i wouldNEVER let even a medical professional do that kinda shit to my baby! that's rediculous. If i have a premature child i would NEVER permit this! i will be there at EVER moment so they wouldn't!

  • Well guess you better get yourself neutered cause they are going to have to touch the child to weigh measure and change the diapers of even a child born with no problems. In fact please do and remove all chance of your stupidity passing on to the next generation.

  • Notice the music? It's slightly cheerful. Ridiculous.

  • Hi.

Can you uploada VIDEO OD LASER TREATMENT BEING DONE FOR rop.please

  • good job

    thanks for uploading

    dr ashish mahobia. india

  • im calling the child abuse hotline, i have it on speed dial!

  • O NO I'LL CRY TO LEAVE HIM ALONE

  • OMG, these poor babies. They were crying in pain.......How can they do that?

  • U know, when u guys where a baby, they had to do the same thing their doing right now to you...

  • ....i cant breath.Poor baby..
