Someone needs to learn port from starboard. The Titanic was actually turned towards the port (left) side, resulting in its striking the berg with the starboard (right) side.
@joemac356 That's right. The order given for that turn was "hard a' starboard" which meant turning the ship's wheel to starboard, which turned the rudder (and the ship) to port. In 1912, ships used what were called "tiller commands" for turning--that's why turning the wheel in one direction turned the rudder in the other--just like on a small outboard motor with a tiller handle.
The "three screw bad, small rudder, slow to turn" idea may merit qualification.
Ships rudders work better as weight of water opposition increases. Titanic's central third screw, propelled by an ahead only turbine, would have thrust water directly against her rudder as it turned, presumably increasing its effectiveness.
the ship sank because of how it was built..like the 3 propellers, 3 propellers makes the ship hard 2 turn and hard to stop thats why it sucks..but somehow predictions and superstitious things were relevant though like there was a book 14 or 13 years earlier that was published telling that there was a ship named TITAN that would sink in icy waters..number of survivors and passengers matched the one on the book..so probably those superstitions were true
@ninamarie222 well although what you say is true..there was many elements to its demise...black burg..or blue, which ever you wanna call it,bad tinsel strength in rivets..they cut corners in other words..just so many things that made its sinking..
To be honest, this was a well-planned video! I love the segues from paintings to actual footage from Cameron's movie... one minor thing I must mention, however.... the lookout's name is spelled incorrectly... His last name is FLEET. Overall, an enjoyable tribute to the memory of Titanic!
the name 'titanic' is cursed, but i give my respects to those people tha lost there lives for the wealthier of the bunch. may they be remebered at some of man-kinds biggest heros RIP
Thank you for the video...some pics. I've never seen before...that was great!! Not to criticise or critique, but the closing of the promenade deck was due to structural integrity as was the rounding of the base of the expansion joint.
Well one of the maindifferences was the enclosed promenadedeck. It was closed 2 months before depature after some passengers on olympic complained about getting wet. Also the expansion joints were strengthend after engineers discovered some cracks in olympics hull after her first voyages.
@Steiner8834 and it was bigger, and more gadgets like running water on some decks..ironically it had more life boats, more intricate wood work such as the famous stairway..really quit a bit different
@WallOfSnow There are only TWO historically documented deaths during the construction phases of Titanic while she was still on the slipways at Harland and Wolffe.
@WallOfSnow I have studied the history of this vessel for almost thirty years....
The information I obtained came from various books....and the Titanic Historical Society. I will stay with the two documented deaths as I originally mentioned.
Its pretty touching- Some of the rooms- Like the Turkish Bath still have some recognizeable features. in the bath you can see tile under the silt, and stained glass is still there in its entirety. There is no longer a staircase in the ship- that was probably ripped out while she was on her way down. Some of the windows still have paint on them; and some features on her deck are still recognizeable.

Their were 3 fatal design flaws that doomed Titanic:
1. They lowered the front bulk-head doors. this resulted in the water able to go over them after she hit the iceberg.
2. The design specified #4 Iron Rivets, but they ordered the weaker #3 rivets, whose heads easily popped off when she hit the icebreg.
3. They also used the new 3-properler design with two small a rutter making her hard and slow to turn.

probably if titanic didn't sink it would be like the Olympic SCRAPPED

the number of the titanic spelled backwards is "no pope" which is kinda bad luck in the roman catholic. so probably it is cursed.

Do you honestly and sincerely believe that superstitious bilge?
