  • Thank-you.

  • great help and love the music felt like i was gonna get shocked at any moment-lol

  • Great job on a very simple and clear explanation on how to change a circuit breaker....You should be a teacher !

  • Great video, only thing would be to mention to "turn off the service disconnect" at the beginning

for safety. Thanks for a well done video.

  • thanks , i fixed my breaker with your help , no electrician & GIGANTIC bill $

  • YOU NEED TO SHUT THE MAIN BREAKER OFF FIRST!!

  • I just saw your other video. Thanks!

  • What setting do you use on the multimeter to check your wiring/breaker is correct? What should it read? I just want to be sure if it's a 120v.

  • this was very helpful. thank you.

  • Thanks 4 the info...

  • Always respect electricity it can only take seconds for you to arc or ground yourself. It really takes a lot of common sense to do this and practice SAFETY. I'm journeyman level tech and I work with industrial electricity in the range if 480v. I've had a few close calls but I've had my proper PPE on so it helps. Remember it ain't they voltage that will kill you it's the amperage. It only takes mili amps for your heart to stop. I had to change out a 100 amp main while it was hot and boy it was n

  • I have an engineering background (aerospace) and can read schematics from here to tomorrow. I logged to watch this video because I wanted help out a friend who has a defective breaker at her house. A repair guy wanted $400 to the type of job you just showed us here. I am disgusted by contractors that try to take advantage a people (especially women) that do not know any better. Thanks to this video I did the job and my friend paid $10 in parts and a nice dinner for me.

  • When reinstalling the breaker you should always(if possible) insert your wires into the breaker terminals before pushing the breaker back into place, as to create less chance of hazardous contact. Good vid though

  • If i could just ask a general question, i bought a house and the old owner said she removed the floor electrical heaters due to water from the sump pump. the wires i later discovered are still at the floor level . how do i measure them to 1. see what the volts is(are) and 2. how do i tell what breaker they work from.? the colors of the wires and black and white

  • @stevohouston I always welcome comments from users, and that is the one great thing about living in this country is that we have the freedom of speech. I am a Master Electrician as well as a Licensed Electrical Contractor here in Florida. I stand behind anything that I make and post. As I tell the other haters that love to spam successful vidoes, if you dont like it - make your own.

Now keep your comments civil or I will block you. Another great freedom I have of owning this channel.

  • @TheElectricalDoctor Thank you for posting this video, I thought it was very useful to change a simple breaker.

  • @stevohouston Congratulations, you have now been blocked and reported for spam. Have a nice day.

  • @stevohouston I'd rather listen to what this guy has to say than an "electrician" who can't spell *illegal* correctly.

Spend less time on youtube and more time in engrish crass so you can write a paragraph that makes sense.

    Dumbass.

  • @mikepeterson2008 Lol! I thought the same thing Mike! I think I would rather watch a viseo and do my own work than hire an expert "EC" who is no smarter than that! Lol!

  • @jharri1 *video - sorry for typo

  • @stevohouston Sorry not everyone has $1000/hr to spend on an electrician, If you do your homework properly you can do anything you want so stfu with your caps.

  • ITS ILIGAL TO DO ELECTRICAL WORK WITHOUT LICENSE IN TEXAS HIRE CERTIFICATED ELECTRICIAN VIDES LIKE THIS MAKE POPLE DO THEIR OWN WORK AND GET KILED AND START FIRES!!!

  • @stevohouston Spell check much? There is nothing illegal about doing your own electrical work on your own home. No municipality has the right to take that away from you. Videos like this are meant to help the homeowner. As a contractor myself, I say good job to the author of this video.

  • Please amswer as soon as possible

  • @Jhfgsjdcd I am sorry I missed this, do you still need help?

  • Ok i i was playing with my mains outlet in us 120v and i had shorted the two wires trying to make a full bridge rectifier it turned of and i went to check it and all the breakers are on. What happened please help and if i cant do the job how much will it cost if the electrician comes . I live in lodi

  • I don't have sound on my pc, so no music for me but the video was clear enough for me to understand how to change the breaker with my new mulitmeter. I don't understand how a mulitmeter works but I have a good idea how to use after this, can you please cover tube and knob wiring; how to find + or - using a mulitmeter. Thanks

  • Thank you for posting this video - especially in light of this economy. I think the music put the fear of God into me that a slip up could be fatal...can you pull the main breaker and be safer? Thanks!

  • @roanmorgan LOL - the best thing for you to do if you dont feel comfortable changing a breaker, is to simply shut the main breaker off. That only leaves the main wires coming to that breaker hot, which makes it much easier and safer for you to change a breaker out.

  • I think I need to change a breaker but breaker has too many wires from it. I think if i reconnect it, I will get confused and put it in wrong. Breaker trips about two or three days at a time. Only controls doorbell and a inside and outisde 110 wall plug.

  • @MrAna811 - if all the wires attached to that breaker were black, than you have nothing to worry about. Just reconnect them to the breaker. But I do recommend changing the breaker as it sounds as though it is going bad.

  • Technically, that's not the best choice of screwdriver to use inside the Main Service panel...even after shutting off the breaker of choice.

I highly recommend people use a complete INSULATED Screwdriver just in case it slips and touches or hits any exposed wires or hot spots.

The best are made by Klein tools :)

  • @upNyaBizznizz - Thank you for advertising klein tools as that is all I use. However, you need to realize not everyone is an electrician, and this video is meant to show people how to do this safely with what they have. No point in spending more money than you need to given the current state of the economy. Thank you for your comments.

  • Why didn't you use the third tool named as necessary for this job - the digital volt meter? Can the volt meter (which I have) be used instead of the stick tester (which I don't have)?

Everything else in this video is crystal clear and easy to understand (for dummies like I). It's also the only video I've ever seen in which background music actually enhances the demo. The person who selected the music and infused it into the presentation has a remarkably keen sense for such things. Thanks!

  • How can you be "careful" removing the screws from the panel cover anticipating the fact that wires sometimes sit up against the screws? Are there different ways to unscrew screws? Thanks.

  • One 10 amp breaker tripped. It is still in the on position but an orange color is showing in the plastic square. I tried resetting the breaker but the orange immediately comes back. What is wrong? Do I neeed to change that breaker? Thanks

  • Thanks for the video and the epic music! I just swapped out a breaker which flipped off earlier today and would not stay on... Still its not working, every time I try to flip the breaker on, it clicks and goes back to off... Any suggestions for this one?

  • @JIMBOND27 - This sounds like you have a dead short in the system, or something plugged into it has gone bad causing the problem. If you send me a PM with the details of this problem, I will tell you what you need to do.

  • Thank you very much for posting this video. You have saved me from waiting on an electrician to fix my electrical problems. I followed all of you videos and successfully got my electrical problems fixed in like one day! Again, thanks!

  • I have a question. my washer and dryer are in the same room. the power socket for the dryer is much bigger than the washer one. the washer plugs into any power outlet. recently the power for the dryer went out and i went to reset the breaker. the washer never went off but the dryer did. I suppose the breaker would reset the power back but it didnt. now the dryer wont turn on and its a pretty new dryer. should i buy a new breaker or does anyone have a suggestion.

  • @cheecheng - In this case I would definitely change out the breaker first. Its a cheap fix and one you can do yourself if you follow what I outline in the video. If after that it does not work, than let me know and I will try and guide you to a solution. Good luck.

  • Thanks so much...was an excellent video

  • Thank you again. In reading the comments below, I see you have already answered my question.

  • @alz123alz Just in case I missed this, yes you can get breakers at any home depot or lowes.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, This is an excellent video, expecially for a novice who needs immediate help. Can I buy breakers at Home Depot. Do all breater have the same power. Thank you again. This is my first lesson and I understand the process.

  • Here's a truly nauseating question. What if one of the screws holding the breaker in starts to come apart as you are turning it? I started with a flat head and then went to a #2 square bit, but so far no luck getting it to come loose, although it's starting to fragment. Any suggestions for getting this sucker out?

  • @cafehuh If you are referring to the screw terminal that holds the wire to the breaker, this is a common problem. Your best bet in this case is to remove the breaker from the panel with the wire still attached. Then with the breaker removed cut the wire as close to the breaker as possible. Then you can strip back the insulation and install a new breaker.

  • I have a question. The power just went out in one room. The breaker down stairs is clicked off however it will not click back over, it just stays in the same spot. Do I need a new breaker or is it something else? Also, if i have no plugged anything new into any outlet in the room it blew, why would that happen. Thanks

  • @bugundatherug First thing you should do is make sure your resetting the breaker correctly. Once a breaker trips, you cannot simply turn it back on. You need to turn the breaker completely off, than turning it back on. When you turn it off completely, you will hear a click, that is the breaker resetting itself so you can turn it back on. Now once you turn the breaker back on, if it still does not hold - you can try swapping it out for another breaker.

  • Excellent video! Don't let the trolls get on your nerves, it's all they do is criticize. I've also found most of them to be Hasbara jews envious of productive citizens in society.

    Thanks for sharing your know-how.

  • @jmbrown8273 Yes article 408 deals with Switchboards and Panelboards, now is there something specific you have a problem with? Or are you simply spouting off? If you dont like what I have posted, you can make your own video. If not, then stop spamming me.

  • what about bolt on breakers

  • Where was the volt meter needed in this video?

  • @cliffistheman - The meter is needed in for this to verify that the power is in fact off when you turn the breaker off. There are times when you shut a breaker off, and power still flows through. So this is mainly for safety, you dont want to get hurt, especially when it comes to electricity. You can also accomplish the same thing using a non contact tester.

  • Yes - the size of the wire will generally dictate the size of the breaker. So if your installing a breaker that is not rated to protect the wire you have attached to it, then your install is wrong. Here is an example, you cannot put a 50amp breaker on 12ga wire. 12 ga wire is only rated for 20amps. Does this help you?

  • Good video. To the point and very clear.

  • great video!!

  • Hey Electrical Doctor - if the breaker keeps slowly sliding itself into the OFF position does that mean the thing is bad?

  • @livingyourdream2010 - if your saying that you reset the breaker, and after a while of using it trips again then try replacing the breaker. Allot of times this is caused by a stressed breaker, but putting a new one in will tell you if it was indeed the breaker or something more serious.

  • YOUR AWESOME!!!

  • No problem guys.... Also if there is ever anything you need to see let me know. I will do my best to make a video to match your needs.

  • @TheElectricalDoctor Could you possibly do a video on how to install an intruder alarm ? Mainly for the D.i.Y side of things if im honest, im a total douche when it comes to that. lol

  • @TheElectricalDoctor say Doc, howa' bout doing a vid on adding a new line to the service pannel?

  • @rocknrolldaddio This would have been very helpful.

  • @rocknrolldaddio - I do have this on my list of things to do. It may have to wait a little until work slows down. Great suggestion. Thanks.

  • thank you, you made that look easy....

  • THANK YOU ...GOD BLESS YOU.
