It is uses because FIRE will suck the oxygen out of the small space (aka the glass) creating a vacuum so when it is placed on the skin it creates a suction. This technique is more of a commonly used home remedy for boils but it was a very good demonstration here.

Also, have you heard of a heat transferring acne product called ZEN (Sold in mostly drug stores)? It also heats acne in order to shrink and get rid of it. Some people even heat pins OR needles to lance a pimple.

I'm not sure if I can stand the heat, but I'd say use an ice cube and hold it on there for up to 15 minutes, depending on how big the pimple is. This method also works by 'numbing the area' and making the head stick up for extracting. Make sure to put an anti-bacterial cream on especially after extracting the head so that any bacteria left beneath the skin is 'killed off'.

This would be a really good was as just a way to expell toxins in generall. That's actually the idea of some chinese or japanese or whatever massages. Burning up the oxygen in the cup before placing it on the skn creates a vacuum, sucking out all the toxins from the skin. Really effective reatment but must be done with care as to not burn skin with hot glass or flame from alcohol...
