Really now? Working with the APA and being in the psychological community for years I find it interesting that the media wishes to see a middle ground. On one side you have science, reality, and hard evidence, on the other side you have high bound belief for belief's sake. I attended this conference and found nothing less than a loving, Christian community, ready and willing to embrace whoever attended. The protesters and those who have not attended have the wrong information. Focus on the Family fully understands that a homosexual person cannot be "fixed" by trying to become "straight". On the contrary, the speakers warned parents that forcing their homosexual children into a heterosexual union was not the answer. What is the answer is Jesus Christ.

I know an old man who, as a teenager was "picked up" by police for being gay. At the station he was gang-raped by police officers, and released.

When the boy's parents wanted to file a complaint, not only were they told that their complaint wouldn't be going anywhere, but also that "it" was for his own good, and that he now was "turned straight".

I wonder if those law enforcement officers believed in God, and if they considered themselves (and their actions) in line with Christianity?

The only problem with people having the right to change if you want to, is that every gay teen wants to change. They want to change because they're teased, picked on and sometimes bashed. They feel they have nowhere to turn and no one to talk to. This often follows glbt people into their adult lives.the feelings of hatred and not being fully human. That being said I think it would be better if we taught people to love themselves and other a little more.

I think it's a personal decision made by the individual who is homosexual. If the individual wants to change, then it's good that people are out there to try and help them. If they don't want to change, then nobody's forcing them to. I don't think it's up to anyone else besides that individual. Of bigger concern is the message being given to parents of LGB youth empowering them to try to change their youth against their will by making them go through these programs. LGB youth are 2-6x more likely to attempt suicide than their straight counterparts depending on the study. This is not a symptom of being LGB but a symptom of self-hatred taught by a hating culture.
