  • cool technique, great demo. you have a very sick amp and pedal board setup too. good work man

  • @ubertasticmagic

In my mind the higher more trebly output of the Jbass would be a benefit for doing this, yes.

Yep basically you're trying to get the most output from your guitar/bass so the pickups are working harder and picking up like a microphone rather than just the small vibrations of the strings.

Give it a shot and video reply it to this one, I'd love to see how it sounds if you get it working!

  • Does this work with other pickups? Like p90s or single coils

  • @justjoe032

It can. It's dependant on the pickup. Give it a shot!

  • sweet. i don't play electric, but i've been curious as to how he does that. do you know how to do that thing at the beginning of the song? like it's the intro and 1st verse, and i think it might play throughout the song.

    is it just sliding/bending?

  • @rahrahritaa

I'm assuming you mean the main riff of the song?

It's their bass player, he has a delay/echo effect on and then uses a pitch shifter to artificially shift his bass note up an octave.

    Hope this helps,

    Eden

  • @Edensadventures aaaahhh. i see.. well.. not really, but whatever. haha thank you :)

  • What kind of sewing machine do you have?

  • hye, I'm trying to do this too, but so far, I fail :p

I've got an epiphone sg-400 (pretty basic) and I tried it on a peavy 15 watts amp.

I also got a line6 spider III amp but I haven't tried it on that. Also, the volume was pretty low, so that could be the problem, right? So, do you think it could work with my guitar and amp(it has delay and reverb) if the settings are right and the volume is high enough? I guess you're the only one with a descent lesson :D

  • all times when they play it live

  • I so wanna do that on a late night down my street on Halloween ;)

  • Nice! Do i HAVE TO have a whammy pedal, can it just be delay mixed with distortion stuff, cuz i just have a pod line6 pedal with many effects.

  • nice gear (Y)

  • nice sewing machine :LL :)

  • haha i like muse too ;)

  • you kinda look like jake from two and a half man (when he became thinner)

    very enlightning by the way!

  • @BrunoSoberon

    Thanks!

    He's my idol!

  • lol at the sewing machine

  • Probably way too late to the game, but pickups that have gone microphonic should do the trick too, a la Neil Young.

  • So if I don't have your setup I basically use a ton of distortion until my amp will feedback and a bunch of reverb turned on? Oh and not to mention the loudness.

    Would that work?

  • @MrMuddyBleach

That should work yep! Just experiment and you'll find the "sweet spot"

  • Very nice... Lovely Les-Paul with the Buzz-saw Finish!

    Great Tutorial!

  • if you used the pitch shifter pedal up two octaves you could probably get some interesting tom morello sounds

  • good demo dude

  • nice video

  • You rock man (:

  • the dd-7 effect level is actually the same level as the pickup/ original volume when it is set to 3 o'clock, not maxed

  • You can tell this kid is the shit, the sewing machine in the backround. Sign of a champion!

  • fuck all that shit all you need is a route 66 overdrive/compressor

  • I like that sg.

  • nice gear mate.

  • your setup actually blows my mind

  • @gerfetil

    I'm glad you like it!

  • i have a normal metal zone pedal and a decent amp i run a gibson sg special just like the on you have there how can i make this?

  • @publiclopez

Well the SG Special has real low output pickups. Basically push the metal zone until you get annoying noise, then pull it back a bit. Then If that doesn't work, crank your amp and give it a little bit of its own distortion too.

Then experiment with which pickup gets the hum most and give it a shot.

The louder your amp, the better.

  • Nice work dude! I used to have that awesome amp :-)

  • this kid looks like he smells, lol. knows his shit tho

  • @GypsyMan89

    I smell so bad

  • @cooncheese360

Hmmm it might be pushing it with the Ashton guitar. But I suppose if you experiment as much as you can, you will probably get it.

Keep in mind, my friend can do it with a simple distortion pedal and his Maton electric. You don't need ALL the effects I've put on there.

  • personally i think it sounds better with the les paul standard, the pickups are closer to those in matts es model, the sound is less harsh too

  • will single coil work?

  • @iuhoops31

Not 100% sure on that. Only one way to find out!!

  • lol i just burped into mine :)

  • you are a fag cunt. il bash you CUNT

  • @kkkinger

Your display photo is two built men in singlets... Your comment is invalid.

  • Ive heard that matt from kings of leon slowly uses a wah pedal during this section of the song to give the yell more of a swell effect

  • @Ianbravard1

Yea that's pretty likely! More treble would make it easier to yell through the pickups. Nice observation :)

  • What if I don't have an echo pedal? I use a ZOOM G1XN.

  • @LtZaidejas

Your ZOOM should have a delay feature, Delay is the other name for Echo.

  • great video! can you do it on a strat too?

  • @johntygesen

I'm sure you can. I would assume more likely to do it on the bridge pickup. Standard Strat single coil pickups might not react so well to it.. but they might have enough output to do it. :)

  • HOLY CRAP! That is friggin' awesome man. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • thanks for the advice mate ! I allways wanted to know how to do that whalling sound, but I was just yelling at the guitar like a jackass tankx :D

  • Dude this awesome sucha fuckign great effect :D

    great for covering whale sounds

  • Mate thats just the nuts cheers. :) Wicked trick.

  • GREAT VIDEO, but can you do it with just distortion and echo? thanks~

  • @masten12344

Yep. I've seen Steve Vai do it with really hot pickups and a tonne of distortion

  • @Edensadventures thanks very much for you help! you rock!

  • Great video man. Really really good style. 5

    Cheers from Canada.

  • Thank you! I appreciate that!

    Thanks from Australia!

  • hey thnks for uploading this! its sounds great however , it doesnt work that well for me, i cant get that scream sound, all i get is feedback

  • Yea that can happen with some guitars and amps. I really don't know what defines whether an amp can do it or not.. I'd like to be able to say that it's just big amps, but I've done it on tiny little 10watt amps..

  • lol, "the guitar already wants to make some noise" :)

    you're class.

    thanks for showing!

  • Why not? I have a family, I keep my music gear in a family room, so my family has their stuff there too. That sewing machine is in 9/10 of my videos... It's totally famous now

  • It DID work.

    Thanks, mate :D

  • Not a problem. Glad it worked for you.

  • hey big fella can u list in writting the pedals you use and wat setting there on champ?

  • Sure,

    Marshall Jackhammer Distortion:

Set the gain to it's lowest setting and the volume quite high. This makes the pedal less of a distortion and more of a clean boost.

    Boss DD3 Delay:

No particular settings, you just want it to act like a long reverb in a way that drags your notes right out.

Marshall JCM 900 100 Watt Amp:

Tonnes of Reverb, I have the gain on full, but the gain on a JCM 900 isn't much at all, so other amps could require a lot less.

The EQ is all up to you.. =D

  • gots to give you props but thats not how they do it

  • If you mean physically... then explain to me some more methods of physically yelling into a pickup.

  • great job. got the same distortion pedal. youre les pauls pretty solid by the way. keep doin what you're doin.

    went to kols concert. amazing.

  • Thanks I'm glad you liked it!

I'll be sure to keep posting more videos!

  • i done it with my les paul!!!

  • Nice work mate

  • lol dodgey guitar cover.. dude it was awsum :P

  • awesome setup you have there and its really fun to see what equipment you have, but you still havent given out the details on the sowing machine xD

  • hahaha it's a Pfaff Hobby 721

  • Nice board! My friend has an amp set up like yours. How do you afford this stuff!? :P

  • haha I work very hard at a department store and then I sit on ebay always searching and buy when things are at their absolute cheapest.

I got my head (which RRPs for $2800 AUD, and I'm not sure they make this model now) for $999 AUD. I was proud.

  • That's awesome! I totally need a job, I'm trying to save up enough money to buy a Canon 7D D-SLR. Hopefully I'm getting one for Christmas, but I'm definately not holding my breath.. :P

Keep up the good work man, if you advertise a bit more you may be able to apply for the partnership program!

  • I'd like to get partnership, and I'd work hard for it. But I don't advertise etc, because people doing cover videos can't get the partner status.

  • Aww man, that sucks, try making another channel and do "your own stuff". You've got the technique, I've no doubt you can write well as well! ;D

  • I have been thinking it over. I'm not sure what kind of content I'd put on the second channel. Possibly instructional videos. But there's only so many techniques that I know.. But if I can write down a big enough list, get the videos all up, people might start requesting.

In regards to writing, it's funny you should say that. I've just pieced together a band with mates and there isn't much inspiration here on the Central Coast hahaha... so writing may be a harder task than originally thought.

  • Hmm, I really think you should work at it. There is money to be made :P

Also, hahaha, I'm in the same boat, I'm a keyboardist and the Band and I are having some issues with regards to writing original content! Just rip off a muse song, everyone likes muse :P

    JK

  • Yea, Will do mate. If you get any ideas for what i could do on an "Own content" channel, I'm very keen for ideas. I'm gonna start scouting around for stuff.

  • I"VE BEEN THERE!!

  • Very informative! 5 Stars!

  • I explain well when I'm tired at 1am huh?
