This film is one that everyone will love. It is an inspirational film about a father who is willing to do anything for his family. I like how you called it a family film. This is a motivational film for all those who see it. Overall, this is a great review. I just saw an inspirational film called Discover the Gift. Have you heard of it? It is really good and I think you should do a review for it. bit. ly/lmjrmP
It's a good movie, though not very acurrate in it's depiction of Max Baer. He wasn't the ass they made him out to be, and they didn't need to do that to his legacy for dramatic purpose
I,m speaking of the fact that they made Baer look like he enjoyed killing a man in the ring, and enjoyed taunting his challengers with the thought that they may get killed. I don't know if you watched the actual fight, but I didnt see any mighty comeback, it hardly looked like baer was trying.
Pfff yeah there's a big conspiracy out there to get you mate.
The movie makes it pretty clear that Baer didn't want to fight in order to kill Braddock; he didn't want another "chump" he wanted a good fight, and that's what he got.
I've seen the fight. Far less glorious than the movie and not all that amazing compared to today's standards. There was no glory music and flashbacks to Braddock's starving family, but there was definitely a decent comeback by the underdog who took out the fight.
how is that a conspiracy? it was clear that they made the guy out to be an asshole.
"How's the wife doing? She talk about me? Say my name in her sleep?!"
i dont know about you, but its pretty clear they made him into a friggin bastard.
and just to let u know, its technically only a conspiracy theory if they claim that the writers made him that way with the goal to trash max baers reputation, which isnt the case. they just wanted to make a champion villian for the underdog hero to beat.
calling people "conspiracy theorists" right and left like a condescending insult when there was no mention of any "conspiracies."
if anything, it is u, good sir, who cannot hear the facts. nor did u present any to begin with. all we have, my friend, are conjectures.
well, maybe just u, whereas the rest of us have documented information on boxing fighters and the extreme difference in personality that was portrayed by his film counterpart.
You're the one who is acting like "everybody" is supporting you. "everybody" appears to just be you and a few other people who believe the movie is wrong and should have made Baer look like a champ.
There will always be sceptics who want to tear down the hero who went from rags to riches in order to win a great fight. "Oh really Baer was a nice guy and the fight was nothing... the movie's stupid" just enjoy the entertainment and go home...
being a champ is one thing, but they misrepresented a historical figure.
i dont recall saying anything that would tear down jim braddock. the guy was a hero for all those hurt by the depression; but we aint talkin about him.
the movie was great. and yea, on what i know, max seemed like a nice guy. but that doesnt mean the fight was nothing.
its a movie u idiot. sorry i ruined ur escape from reality with my facts. go cry when u learn that leonardo dicaprio wasnt really on the titanic.
There's the whole Max Baer appreciation society who I'm sure you read everything from. Sure... the movie made Braddock look like a better character in light of history.
It's boxing FFS!!! ALL boxers talk dirty!
Baer did not say *Queen's English accent* "jolly good then, lets have a nice clean match old friend, and afterwards I will serve you a tea with my mother's best tea set"
He DID say something like "I'M GONNA TEAR HIS BRAINS OUT!!!!"
im sorry, my internet "troll" instincts kicked in for a moment with that last comment i made.
although it is mostly ur fault. u did trigger it by acting like a sarcastic retard going on about tea and croquet; and also reiterating points that A: have already been made well known 4 years ago, when the damn movie came out. and B: have absolutely no bearing or point compared to the arguments ive already presented.
Yes... that the movie's portrayal of Baer was pretty accurate. And I think I rest my case...
Yes, there's web pages dedicated to Baer being a champ. Some guys love him and feel he was hard done by the movie. My message is to move on... if you think Baer was hard done by then make a movie about him.
anyway, what do u mean "i rest my case"? yea, u listed some true facts there, but u list his jerk parts. and whether or not boxers talk dirty, that's not what was portrayed in the film. it may be just for show, but braddock took everything baer said to him seriously. and so did the entire audience. that was my point. also, u need remember that scene with him and the women, and him yelling.
come on, its not hard to see what they made the guy into.

Baer was the champion of the time, Braddock was an underdog and did a mighty comeback performance to beat Baer against the odds.
I don't think they mis-represented Baer, they just made it clear that he was the known champ. He was a great boxer and his legacy proves it.
The fact that Baer was so good is what makes Braddock's victory over him so amazing.

They DID make Baer out to be a scum bag. He was a great boxer. And in every interview I have seen, he wasn't at all the ass they made him out to be.

Conspiracy theorists are exhausting. The facts mean nothing to them; their pursuit of a villain trumps all. Any response only brings ire.

So please get over it already...
Yes, Baer was a champ... the movie shows that.
a) In the movie Baer does not want to kill Braddock.
b) Baer killed some fighters in fair fights. Braddock was warned of this as it was a serious issue.
c) Baer and Braddock had a fight (not a game of croquet over on the Queen's lawn)
d) Baer wanted to win the fight (rightly so)
e) Braddock won (which is true)

... response not needed I think.
Baer was a boxer, not a ballerina, still not sure what you're trying to prove.
djgamble07 2 years ago
very well, i suppose we're done now, considering we seem to be having a hard time getting each other to understand the arguments we present.
i guess we'll just have to both walk away confused.
so, i suppose we agree to disagree? or something of the sort...
