  • The 2nd Vienna Art Orchestra :)

  • 2 people obviously have nooo idea what good music is!

  • Come to Shreveport :)

  • It's an honour to be conducted by this guy, even for just a short time.

  • Steve Weist conducts the Honour Jazz Band for all of British Columbia; I'd never heard of him until we had begun. It's a good thing I did- this is amazing.

  • one of my top goals in life is to join this band

  • 2 people accidently hit the dislike button while trying to hit the like button.

  • The bigband I saw had an acoustic bass playing this and soloed on it. Amazing HIGHSCHOOL FRESHMAN. New generation jazz orchestra

  • Wiest must be a Hoosier.

  • So kickass

  • i can see why no one disliked this video

  • Marin School of The Arts Jazz I played this this year. Word spread and the band was asked at the Reno Jazz Festival for an encore to play this song. To keep things moving Jazz I didn't.

    We're a high school. B)

  • Now that's musicianship!!!

  • Hahahaha this is the funniest sax solo i've everheard in my life! ANGRY!

  • this is just so much winning.

  • I didn't say it wasn't jazz, I just was trying to say jazz is on another level or on many levels. It is something one cannot explain, art versus music, or glen gould and the Bernstein fight for the best style for a piece. Bernstein was more of a show man I believe not gould wanted to perform the piece his way, and this what's makes him a great artist. I am speaking of great art not a jazz programf. I am trying to help you guys and all you do is put me down for it. So be it!

  • @gwatersusa It's true, many musicians go through periods of change in their life and maybe one day they won't like this anymore. But who gives a fuck, let them enjoy it now. What you're trying to say is "I'm cool cause I was around when the real shit was happening." But as was made clear because other musicians didn't like your "creativity," what you're ACTUALLY doing is trying to make up for the fact that you didn't make it by going around being a pretentious asshole.

  • @gwatersusa Fact is, these kids are damn talented. And maybe you should rethink your definition of creativity if you're so narrow minded. The thing that defines jazz music is it's ability to change. That doesn't mean every musician has to change with it, and it doesn't mean that people can't enjoy certain aspects of jazz more than others. But it's annoying as fuck when someone goes around saying "the music I like is better than the music you like." That's why everyone's hating on you.

  • When one is 20 to 24 years old one thinks this is jazz, but when one is 68 years old

one learns jazz is not always jazz. I am a graduate of NT 66, so I know about the program and what is going on there, There are many levels of music and it is sad so few understand this.

  • @gwatersusa Do you not agree that this could just be another 'level' of jazz? It may seem like they're ramming out notes, but if people like it, and if people listen to it, then it's music worth having. You shouldn't punish them for being rhythmically talented. Jazz has evolved in COUNTLESS different ways, I don't think you can just say it's 'not' jazz.

  • just a lot of notes for me, greg henry waters God I'm stupid.

  • awesome , I saw them live at our Folsom Jazz Festival pre Grammy performance. The first time I ever heard this tune was by our great Folsom Jazz Band "A" who also kick some major ass playing it, high school students. Our trombone player, playing that song is awesome, his father is middle school band director, he along with our high school director are in charge of best school music program in the country, over the years this program has won so many awards, band room filled with trophies

  • Very Kentonesque..

  • nice.

but the cd version is way better.. better solos ... a tad slower.. same players.

    check it out.

  • Steve is super, his chart is super, and the band is super!

  • @gwatersusa You're a legit idiot

  • Yeah, great drum chops at 1:20 & the bass is really nice. Was at NTSU '75-'80, good-times at 1pm. Going to catch them at Bass Hall tomorrow ...great venue!

  • I am saying that jazz use to be a growth art, but this band sounds the same as when I played in it with Billy Harper and Blue Lou Marinni in it. Jazz is suppose to be a creative art form not a repeat of the past. Jazz is just a tool now for the pop industry or movie industry. Creative art is not in the picture anymore. I have been saying this since 1976 with my concert lecture, Creativity and the Artist. When I found out I could not be creative in jazz for the musicians would not accept it.

  • @gwatersusa God you're stupid.

  • sucks that you can't hear the bassist in this video. Hes amazzzinnnnn

  • This is music, Steve Wiest. BLOW THAT TENOR AXE, BLACK MAN. You have a good teacher. Children should be exposed to this at an early age. Public schools, you've got nothing to show.

  • the search to find real music takes 30 years or more. Listen to Handel for example.

Yes being the best does not mean it is music. This is not an insult but an option to become better at what NT does.

  • @gwatersusa are you saying that conceptual jazz, isnt music?

  • I use to think this stuff was great. Now I know better.

  • UNT 1:00 Lab is the Best Collegiate Jazz Band in America. Juliard can Kiss my Ass...

These guys are hot!!!! At Birdland in NYC no less!!!! I bet there were a bunch of Juliard students at this gig....and Mannes, and NYU, and others.....

  • The ability to play a lot of notes is not music.

  • @gwatersusa bebop says otherwise.

  • @gwatersusa even rap is music.

  • 1:05 Satriani's "Ice 9" melody?

  • I saw them at their pre-grammy performance in L.A. and later at the Catalina Jazz Club. These guys kick some major ass.

  • I whent to their free concert and now I have some autograph's including the lead trombone player, band director and Bari-sax,and more.

  • The bass trombone player is a beast
