Yeah, that's right. SP injured his hip hiking in Hawaii in 1997. I'm only trying to respond to Journey fans who cannot seem to move on from 25 yrs ago. No one back then believed he would ever tour again, injured or not. I'll say it once more; SP was incredible but his voice changed permanently and drastically in the mid-90's. He's simply not the vocalist he once was. New guy Arnel Pineda is no Steve Perry but he does an amazing job and the band's live shows have been fresh & inspired.

Message to thisislanddouche: Seen all Journey front men, (including Jeff Scott Soto). Steve Perry, aka The Voice, lost his higher register by the end of the ROR tour. By 1996 with TBF he no longer sounded like "classic" Steve Perry. Still damn good but vocal attrition takes it toll, even on the great ones. I don't know what hillbilly shit hole you crawled out of, but you sound like an ignorant racist inbred, sorry to say it. Arnel is 44 and can break glass with his tenor, SP has retired.

Journey is not even Journey now. None of you newbies know any of Journey's songs performed by the man who made them famous, steve perry. All you know is some monkey lip syncing to them while he eats bananna's, scratches his forehead and his armpits and tries to replicate steve perry. Journey woulnd't have hired him if he didnt remotely sound like Steve perry. So why did they have to get a 5th replacement singer that sounded like steve perry...because they can't do anything original, thats why

Some fans just can't be happy that Arnel has extended the life of Journey. Didn't have a hit all thru SA tenure. And he was the closest to Perry's voice. For me Arnel's voice is not even close to Perry's. He just sings the songs in the same way Perry did. And yet, only now they found success again.

I noticed this is in e-flat as opposed to e. In other videos where it's played in e, Arnel was having a little trouble reaching the high notes. I think he's doing a great job overall and he's a lot of fun to watch.

@levelheadsteve Agreed. Pretty typical for late in a tour when the singer's vocal chords are hammered - especially for this type of vocal range. Arnel was having some trouble hitting the highs on a few other videos are detuning is a good remedy. Amazing what half a step can make.

@onetime504 I say bullshit to you that his voice wasn't that good here because it was late in the tour. In general, Arenl does a decent job. Very good job when you listen to his concert recordings through youtube on your little speakers. But listen to the latest Journey CD that has all the classic songs re-recorded with Arenl in the studio and you'll notice that he's not at all in the same league as SP.  Still good, but not a SP. But t make my point of BS,Stone in Love is (see part 2)

Even in the studio recording (they re-recorded all the classics with Journey) and this was before the touring started. So no, his voice wasn' fucked up in this recording because of a so called "end of the tour"
