  • Everything begins at 1:00

  • Now make it downshift haha.

  • where do yu get the magnets

  • @polarawesome

I get neodymium magnets online from K&J Magnetics. (link in the "Show more" box). Other sources are a craft store or hardware store. Or find a shake-type flashlight and tear it apart.

  • and what can you do with this?

  • That's pretty cool. Do you think the conductivity of the different coins is the effect or the distance from the the brush to the magnet.?

  • @Dragonfire7666

I think multi-speed effect is mostly because of the radial distance, that is, from the centre of the disc, to the brush that is acting as commutator. The larger diameter disc will rotate slower when considering the same surface speed between the conductor and the disc surface.

  • @MrfixitRick

Oh.. So it's more concerning the electron flow K=distance.

I like how it floats down the control. Almost like it has a combination with nature. I believe that's a secret of this device yet to be told.

  • Manual FTW!!!

  • do the coins have to be magnetic?

  • @jakedjo

The coins don't have to be magnetic, but they will stick to the magnet easier if they are. You could use a magnetic steel washer to hold up some non-magnetic coins perhaps. Or glue the coins on. Or simply use different sized magnetic washers instead of the coins.

  • Automatic 5 gear transmission - you expect something very complex if you hear this. HAHA

  • HAHAHA

  • Cool motor. What do you use this for?

  • i little shaky in 5th i think you need a fluid and filter change lol

  • bla bla bla mamon

  • HAHAAAH! Resistance! Of course!

  • Can you please explain the Physics here? =)

  • @Adelbert1309

Basically, the wire conducts a current which forms a magnetic field that reacts with the magnetic field of the magnet.

The principle is the Lorentz force (see wikipedia under Lorentz Force and homopolar generator and homopolar motor.)

  • @MrfixitRick thanks for that...I'm not familiar with this before... :D

  • @Adelbert1309

The homopolar motor and generator idea shocked me when I first ran across it...it seemed too simple and easy!

Faraday was the first to discover the phenomenon in the early 1800's, but he could not explain it. It was not until many years later that Lorentz was able to explain it fully.

  • automatic my ass...a peace of copper sliding down(five speed automatic) ...

  • @xfifx1 Wtf, the PIECE of copper sliding down is the simple mechanism for it to change gear automatically. Go to school and learn English before discrediting others please.

  • @orgminyak well, I speak 3 languages and English isn't my first and main language my friend ,and its not your business OK, im commenting on this guys video OK so mind your own business minyak.

  • damn AT-magnets, Need that on my fridge

  • very cool!

  • very cool. little word slip up there.. i think u said homophobic insted of homopolar :p great work tho.

  • what can u use this type of motor for?

  • Thats great man!!! I really liked that, what other applications have you used this for? Whats the torque? If you touch it does it just stop? What if you kept the arm from moving in lets say 1st gear, would it rotate forever? Or will the battery eventually wear out? Thanks and great job!

  • @Halljac

See my Homopolar Motor Playlist for more motors. The torque is not too bad, and it will continue to rotate with touching lightly. It won't rotate forever, and can discharge a rechargeable battery quickly.

  • AWSOME

  • thats so cool

  • nice

  • oh no its sandman!!! sum 1 call spiderman!

  • Magnets, how do they work.

  • R U Vin Diesel? Cuz U definitely sounded like him

  • @nosxpress

    Nope, no relation.

  • It would be so cool if you got it goin fast enough you could put your pocket knigh up to it and shapen it

  • BORING

  • @doggie1kitten

Judging by your channel, "boring" seems to be the only comment that you leave for others.

  • that's more of a cvt then a 5 speed

  • If it was so fucking great...wheres the Auto DOWNSHIFT!

  • At first I thought you were just moving the arm along, but after reading a comment and then watching it again, it does it on its own from the vibration and gravity..

  • @digitalizeurself

    Thank-you for noticing!

  • thats one gay bear....get it? (homo-polar bear)

  • He said homo

  • Video is good ! For more Tesla tech pls watch video: "Tesla cold electricity" by HorizonDelta.

  • wow nice voice

  • Duke nukem voice ;D

  • nice

  • what are the things down in the battery? coins? magnets?

  • @drummaniaco There is a neodymium magnet directly under the battery. Below that are Canadian coins, which are magnetic.

  • WOWWW that is AMAAAZING, you can CLEARLY see all FIVE gears and the speeds that acompany them!..you might as well call this a 'variable transmission', but even that it's not.

If it was me, I would call it what it is, an accident.

  • kool

  • That is cool. Do you have any idea how long the power would last if you left it running?

  • @jaffabend

It will run for a few minutes before the battery dies.

  • Microsoft Sam?

  • could this be an alternative for gas? sorry, such a dumb question

  • @Funnyjake011

This idea could be an alternative for gas engines. But, like electric cars, the energy has to come from somewhere, such as a battery pack or generator.

  • @Funnyjake011 There is no such thing as a dumb question

  • He doesn't push it in its gear, look at the shadow ! Nice vid ;)

  • peaple are idiots the current and the vibration is what makes it go down the hanger

  • if he was doing it you would see his shadow

  • metti in serie una pila da 9V

  • how is he pushing it into gears, when u can clear as day see the shadows.. moron.

  • ya watch the shadow in the bakc ground. he isnt touching a thing

  • Free Energy is real and its here! The Oil companies are doing everything in their power to stop these information. If you want a Free energy machine do a search in youtube for the LT MAGNET MOTOR , Join the revolution!

  • 0-60 mph in 5 seconds

  • Really neat. I've never heard of such a thing!

  • His rite look at the shadow

  • i got a question.

is that iron which support the copper wire, tilted downward a little bit? u know what i mean?

through the vibration, the copper wire start to slide downward.

  • MrfixiRick, aren't you an sadman ? you always have your voice low and down...

  • @zephirekott

    Wrong.

  • @zephirekott ...shadow says it all

  • @zephirekott You would see his shadow. and you dont. so looks real to me

  • @zephirekott its automatic... so called... with the aid of gravity and a bit of bending here and there... so called 5 speed.... but this is kinda retarded... its like using an engine vibration to cause the speed shifter to shake and slide into the next gear as gravity pulls it.... and its somewhat 'linear'... so as the shit falls down until its at the bottom, it just keeps increasing...

  • It isnt automatic. Camera trick. Hes pushing it into the next gears. Nice try though.

  • @zephirekott

Uh, no. No trick. Nice try though.

  • @MrfixitRick

zephirekott... look at the shadow of the bar that shifts. it clearly isnt being pushed

  • @zephirekott Okay to help out the author of this video if you simply look at the shadows you can see that there is no change in the shadow of a hand pushing the copper.

  • @zephirekott look at the shadow...he isnt touching it

  • @zephirekott if he were pushing it you would see his shadow where the "gear lever" shadow is on the table. try opening your eyes before you call bullshit on someone...

  • @zephirekott kk wow can u not see the shadow.......he isnt using his hand

  • @zephirekott you can clearly see the shadow on the floor/table behinde the motor he never touches the lever, besides y would somone lie about something like that, common just use ur head.

  • @zephirekott Look at the shadow?

  • @zephirekott Wouldn't you see the shadow of his hand as you see the shadow of the shifter? IF he was moving it with his hand..There would be a shadow of a hand on the shifter lmao..common sense.

  • @zephirekott look at the shadow, you do not see a hand pushing...

  • @zephirekott it is not a trick. this is happening because battery is becoming electric conductor to itself's electric circle and when the conductor is straight , magnetic lines are sprials whos center is the on the battery's axis. so the whole thing gets electromagnetic performance and it goes in a circle so thats why it acts like this

  • @zephirekott Yes it fooled me at first also. Good video tho! A+

  • @zephirekott It's automatic, look at the shadow the second time you don't see a shadow hand :P

  • @zephirekott you would see his shadow

  • @zephirekott: Nope....works a lot like a CVT transmission, if I'm thinking correctly.

  • @zephirekott yo mama can do a trick to its called making me giz in her mouth so dont dis the man here he did a nice job

  • @zephirekott try takeing a look at his shadow smart ass

  • @zephirekott defo camera trick, you can tell by his bad attitude to critisism, anyway a spinning battery shifting coin gears is as usefull as a bored socially retarded man spending all day in his basement playing with batteries, magnets and wire.

  • @sglyfarch oxymoronic statement. only losers go with the 'you cann tell he's noob because of his attitude'

  • @toasterder sorry didnt realise you are in a relationship with him, check the meaning of oxymoron again, re-read what I typed and try and work out where the oxymoron is. one man, one battery, two pieces of wire, a few coins, one loser and an insignificant blag, no contradictions there, maybe you missed the sarcasm in the gear shifting bit.

  • @zephirekott look at the shadow? is there a hand? -.-

  • @zephirekott You Fail. You should be more observant before you make retarded statements that make you look like a dumbass. LOL. Look at the shadows, fool. You can see there is no hand or anything coming into the area. Unless he's developed some kind of cloaking device that allows his hand and arm to not cast shadows anymore. The vibration and gravity (downward angle of the bar the "transmission" is on) is what causes it to move slowly.

  • @zephirekott He is not pushing it in to the next gears, look at the shadow, his hand never touches it.

  • @zephirekott He is not pushing it in to the next gears, look at the shadow, his hand never touches it.

  • @zephirekott Look at the shadow of the frame, and sliding contact wire, it is not bneing pushed.

  • @zephirekott watch from 2:15 - 2:40 look at the shawdows. he's not touching it. the coil is silding down the hanger from magnetic attraction or from the vibration. each time it touches a larger coin, the process speeds up.

  • @zephirekott hey dumbass, before you assume, get the facts straight, look at the shadow when its focused on the motor its self, you dont see a hand pushing the rod into higher gears, nice try looking like a retard, cause you succeeded.

  • @zephirekott HAHAHA MORON LOOK AT THE SHADOW! NO FINGERS!!! he is obviously not touching it

  • must u use neodymium magnets??

  • @blueace115

    Yes

  • @MrfixitRick ..y??

  • @blueace115

Well, you could use cobalt samarium magnets but they would be more expensive than neodymium.

Actually, there just needs to be a strong magnetic field and a rotating conductor to form a homopolar motor. I have made them using a bass speaker magnet as the magnetic field as well.

  • thats sic yo

  • do you have to use copper?

  • @sequret

    Yes

  • you need,magnet,battery and wire

  • Really? How so?

  • @ethcat

Check out the videos of MT Keshe for an introduction to the future of magnetics which includes cheap non-polluting energy, synthesizing basic elements, and generating gravity fields.

    See Youtube/ /watch?v=wtf5bp76ArE

  • Rick: Thanks for the fast reply. I'm not really enough of a physicist to actually grok this stuff in depth. I think I'll just sit and gaze in amazement at the magically spinning battery. Anyway, keep up the good work. Are you a pro or something in this sort of thing?

  • @ethcat

I've always had a fascination for magnets, and I believe a deeper understanding of magnetics will radically alter our near future.

  • Very nice, very nice. I'd like to know though: Why does the wire touching a coin of different size make the battery spin faster?

  • @ethcat

There are several factors in the coins which enable various speeds.

The main factor is the radius of the rotating conductor (coin size) Bigger radius = slower spin but more torque. Small radius is faster spin.

The resistance of the coin and its magnetic properties also affect the rpm's. Less resistance = faster, more magnetic = faster

  • wow that fast...wonder if u glue a razor blade to the bottom u could make a finger blender

  • lol you sound like steven wright. :D

  • yeah ..

me too i make it long but i cant make it spin..

i use the easyest one the only needs is copperwire and battery and my big problem is the magnet i cant find when i can buy the circle one i have but its rectangle shape ..!!

    where i can buy.?

    hardware or electronis shop.??

  • @omarbon23

You can buy neodymium supermagnets from K&j Magnetics. They ship all over the world. The link is in the "more info" details.

  • @omarbon23

Also, you might find a cheap shake-type flashlight locally. It will have a neo magnet inside that is powerful enough.

  • I see it as a cool office boredom toy lol

  • Please. I do this experiment with telephinic cable and do no run. It to be cupper only.

    Thank Very Much.

  • @ingeniero80r116 The coat-hanger support is steel, but it has a coating that must be scraped off to make good contact with the copper wire. The copper wire should be stiff to make it work right, and you will have to play with the angle of the wire to get it right. Also, a strong battery and supermagnet is a must.

  • Well the Homo Polar motor is as gay as I expected but not as cold.

  • its five coins.. get over yourself..

  • lol he just pushes the copper coil ontop its not a transmission lol

  • +You should add an abs breaking system, maybe recharge on the stop and fan =P

  • how does the battery hang..

  • @omarbon23

The battery is magnetic from the magnet attached to it. It hangs because it can stick to the steel coathanger. I had to try many times to get it right!

  • So simple, but it could be the future xD

  • desocupado men

  • microsoft sam is that you?

  • not gonna lie thats sick man great job

  • wow! that is really amazing.I have never seen anything like this!

  • what's with your voice? are you a prist or what?

  • i think the batteries electrons make the copper have a negative charbe making it spin

  • looks like a toonie $2 cdn coin a loonie $1 Cdn a quarter 25cents a nickle 5 cents and a penny. thats pretty cool. need a more stable platform but it works well. :) A+

  • one hell of a car in zero gravity

  • whats that on the bottom/ and could you use part of a clothes hanger to replace th copper wire

  • @branbran700

There is a neodymium supermagnet attached to the bottom of the battery.

Clothes hanger won't work instead of the copper wire, because it sticks to the magnet too much.

  • i think a super quit watch would be a good idea

  • nice work. what else can we do with this technology??? we need more magnet type energy sorces... please help me understand this demonstration. thanks and keep up the good work!!!

  • @blackbill44

Thanks for comment. Control of magnetic fields is the future of science! This demo relies on the Lorentz principle of forces and can be visualized using the Right-Hand Rule used in electricity and magnetism.

Try wikipedia under "homopolar generator" and "lorentz" for more info. Also check comments below for explanations of running this device.

  • @blackbill44 the energy is from the battery this is an electric motor not an energy source

  • does it kill the battery?

  • @matttatts

Yes, it discharges the battery in about 5-10 minutes. I use Heavy-Duty Duracell NiMH rechargeables with the 2650 MAh rating.

  • I don't think the speed is actually changing at 5 specific frequencies or even at all. In fact, so called 5th gear is slower due to a bad case of the wobbles.

It's cute though, I want to try to make one.

  • nice. its funny how simple it is with just a few parts...

  • SO COOL

  • in other words gravity acts as its transmision ,as it slides it shifts.

  • Yes, gravity pulls the copper contact wire to activate the motor, but only when subjected to the vibrations of the coat-hanger wire holder. It only shifts when the motor is running, and the copper contact wire is out of the "park" position on the wire holder.

  • @MrfixitRick ure clever

  • How does this work ?

  • It works by the principle of what is called the Lorentz force. Basically, as the current moves from the battery through the wire and magnetic disc, it sets up a magnetic field which opposes the field of the magnet, causing a torque on it.

There is some good info in wikipedia under "homopolar generator", and "Lorentz force".

  • but i don't know how do you make five speeds?

    and the idea

what should be done to control them-say: we wanna still on the 3rd speed for a 3 min then 5th speed tell i stop it,.like what done at fans..?

how do you suspend the battery to the copper wire?

what is that under the magnet ?

finally i'd like show you respect for your work..

    go on

  • This automatic 5-speed came from the manual 5-speed video I made. I made a simple change in the angle of the coat-hanger wire, and it went into automatic mode.

Controlling the speeds for a certain time could be done by adding friction to the hanger where the copper coils are.

The battery acts as a magnet from the magnet under it, and sticks to the steel of the coat-hanger wire.

Under the magnet are several magnetic Canadian coins, which the copper contact wire rides on.

  • electromagnetic induction

  • supercool

  • try to be more animous

  • Good one mate

  • its not really a 5 speed.. automatic..

its just the wire getting closer causing better reaction from electric to magnetic field.

kinda like how an ice skater spins faster as she/he pulls limbs closer to vertical center of body.

i Am right, no offence - but catchy title.

  • itd be nice if ppl such as the above would just notcomment if they do not like nice vid btw.. why does it go faster wen the copper wire touches?

  • I see that person above finally removed their comment, haha!

When the copper wire touches, it completes a circuit and allows current to flow. The current goes through the battery, into the wire stand, into the copper wire which is touching the magnet, through the magnet and back into the battery.

When the current runs through the magnet, it creates a magnetic field that runs opposite to the magnetic field of the magnet, producing torque and spinning the magnet and battery faster.

  • speak english pleasi cant understand a word you try to say

    no offense

  • lol in fith it needs a tuneup lol well good job what coins did u use

  • These are Canadian coins, and are magnetic. There is a Toony ($2), a Loonie ($1), a quarter and a nickel and a penny.

  • hahaha

  • haha owned nub

  • you could totally make a few Indiana Jones booby traps with this =D.

    seriously..

  • you don't really seem too wowed about it. but that's what makes it funny,

  • imagine how long he spent fucking with this thing to get it ever so perfectly dialed in.....

  • Yep, I spent all night on this one. Filmed at 4 am.

  • Sounds like Steven Wright

  • that's really awsome. Never seen this before.

  • Check out my homopolar motor playlist for more cool vids!

  • try to add the automatic emergency brake system to this as well
