i have a theory. people using the SSM must no one thing. using them and winning doesnt require skill. example: in a DBZ game i hav 2 fight kid buu. so i choose gogeta. y? cuz he's the most powerful guy there. thts just playing 4 kicks. beating kid buu with KID goku takes skill. so beating someone else using people instead of SSM is considered skill.

Its fun at a competitive level to, and it gets really hype at tourneys. When its someone bad/decent playing someone good its not that great, but two top players playing creates loads of hype. And theres always a flair of drama too ;)
Ive played Mvc2 since its arrival. At first though, I was not that into creating combos as much as just enjoying playing with familiar faces i.e Psylocke, Storm, Ken.etc. But years L8r, I wanted to enhance my experience playing, so I started working on combos. The first combo I really learned was M.Bison Pyscho Crusher combo. Then, I combined it with numerous assist. From that point on, Ive explored at least 1,000 combinations, maybe more.....
BS. I've been playing the game since it came out, and yes people do exploit cheese because the game is well-known to have glitches and faults. Thats why the people who play top teirs can always get away with winning through cheating. It is what it is, cheating. When i play with friends we dont resort to i what your shady response is, fast resets and other advantages. ITS NO FUN. Not unless you want to get hit blind sided upside the head for trying to be a badass. U never know who your playin.

Most people that resort to infinites' are just scared what can happen to them when they play fairly, 'cause they know they suck ass without those Gods Magneto, Sentinal and Storm. BTW that's bullshit @ "it's in the game so it's OK!" Spamming projectiles are too and they're just as easy and cheap as infinites', but when someone does that it's mostly considered "Noob". All that said; Justin Wong is good in SF4 at least.
Well, technically he wasn't using an infinite. Nemesis just fell into the mixup. Players usually don't go fully on infinites because the damage is subject to diminishing returns. Most scrubs call it "cheap" and "unfair" when they do not understand the concepts. It's so that they can fall back and blame something other than the fact that they were outplayed.
Cheap would be something like the gambit glitch. Plus Wong has used unpopular characters to beat people plenty of times.
I'm not saying Wong sucks, I'm pretty sure I'd probably only be able to take out just ONE of his 3 (giving he's not using Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel (God 1,2,3.)) My point is that when you have to RESORT to infinites after being took down a character or two, it's sad and pitiful seeing someone that knows how to play do that baby steps shit. Out of respect I don't infinite, just like out of respect I don't spam helpers and projectiles one after another.
Then you are holding yourself back from high levels of play.
Embrace all aspects of the game and learn to avoid them when others try them on you.
Nonsensical codes of honor and respect do not win tournaments. Inifintes, assists, strategically placed projectiles, and learning to avoid them and the like win tournaments.
I'll help some of you new guys out. To get good at the game is gonna require some work, like any game. Get a good FAQ to study the mechanics of the game -> watch some top play videos to understand the concepts and how strategies are implemented -> go to training mode to practice and experiment. Then proceed to test out what you learned on the AI computer, then your buddies, and finally top players. Rinse and repeat.
Training is the best way to understand whats poss, and whats not. When you train, try to play with every char. possible. Mix & match team combinations to explore a GAZILLION varieties of gameplay. Take at least 2-5 hours a day (preferebly at night or weekn mornings) to practice. If you want to have a fav team, practice with them all day. Its like finding gold...once you find something, you want to keep diggin for more!!!
When I got this game my 1st yr of college (2004) for PS2, I tried various combinations of characters/assists. Doing this, I learned why the top players are the top players lol. :-X
I learned I'm more of a defensive-minded & patient player when it comes to MvC2, so I learned that Cable, IronMan and Blackheart are ideal characters for that style. Figure out what ur style is...there are top-tier (and a god-tier) to fit every style.

@HoBBiT6921 haha wow info combos. Inf. combos take mad skill I can only do one set with magnus but im on the controller. EVERY character has an "info" combo even servbot. My friend hated inf. combos and he alsways cried about it saying it was cheap until I taught him how to do them and now he loves them. Then said i only hated them cuz I couldnt do them. But it took him 6 months of training to be good at them. This game is perfectly balanced but I do hate cables though. MSP and MSS FTW

Not all of them take "mad skill" some are really quite simple. They exist because the game is unbalanced. I don't want to hit someone just once and start the combo and watch as they stand almost no chance of beating me or the other way around. There's no fun in that. Hence why they take more care these days to insure infinites don't exist
Ok so Wong almost beat Storm/Sent/Capcom with friggin Jill/Ruby/Ken. The computer RANDOMLY CHOSE THAT TEAM. Most of these "scrubs who only win with god tiers" you talk about? They're some of the best with low tiers too. However its a TOURNAMENT with MONEY. They're trying to win, and those teams are just the best at capitalizing on every mistake. In fact, God tier vs. God tier takes loads more skill than Low tier vs. Low tier IMO. Just my 2 cents.

After the launch, he xx (cancelled into) a super-jump and did a magic series (lp->lk>mp->mk), then xx air dash up-forward and did another magic series, and then xx Hyper-grab xx Magnetic-Tempest. This is Magnus' old-skool bread&butter. (:})
Infinite combos are the most exacting combos. It requires precise execution as well as years of practice. I've been practicing magneto's rom infinite for about 3 years, something like 2 hours a day and i still haven't mastered it. Its harder than it looks. It also isnt cheap because there is damage reduction.
There are a few ppl that can indeed pull off infinites (eg. ROM'ing) on the DC pad and some of them actually prefer pad over stick for regular play. However most players much rather use a stick.
I think whoever is serious about MvC2 will eventually get a stick for whatever system they have the game for. You will definitely need one if you want to consistently pull off advance combos and tactics. There *might* be a chance an 'official' MvC2 stick will be made ala SF4 tourney stick.

Its fun at a competitive level to, and it gets really hype at tourneys. When its someone bad/decent playing someone good its not that great, but two top players playing creates loads of hype. And theres always a flair of drama too ;)

Ive played Mvc2 since its arrival. At first though, I was not that into creating combos as much as just enjoying playing with familiar faces i.e Psylocke, Storm, Ken.etc. But years L8r, I wanted to enhance my experience playing, so I started working on combos. The first combo I really learned was M.Bison Pyscho Crusher combo. Then, I combined it with numerous assist. From that point on, Ive explored at least 1,000 combinations, maybe more.....

BS. I've been playing the game since it came out, and yes people do exploit cheese because the game is well-known to have glitches and faults. Thats why the people who play top teirs can always get away with winning through cheating. It is what it is, cheating. When i play with friends we dont resort to i what your shady response is, fast resets and other advantages. ITS NO FUN. Not unless you want to get hit blind sided upside the head for trying to be a badass. U never know who your playin.

YEAH!! Fuck! About time someone sees it the way me and my brother see it. Most people that resort to infinites' are just scared what can happen to them when they play fairly, 'cause they know they suck ass without those Gods Magneto, Sentinal and Storm. BTW that's bullshit @ "it's in the game so it's OK!" Spamming projectiles are too and they're just as easy and cheap as infinites', but when someone does that it's mostly considered "Noob". All that said; Justin Wong is good in SF4 at least.

Well, technically he wasn't using an infinite. Nemesis just fell into the mixup. Players usually don't go fully on infinites because the damage is subject to diminishing returns. Most scrubs call it "cheap" and "unfair" when they do not understand the concepts. It's so that they can fall back and blame something other than the fact that they were outplayed.
Cheap would be something like the gambit glitch. Plus Wong has used unpopular characters to beat people plenty of times.

x2! Infinites can also be used to set up for a reset or get better spacing advantage.
Marvel is an absolutely amazing game with mind boggling possibilities when ppl understand the concepts.

I'm not saying Wong sucks, I'm pretty sure I'd probably only be able to take out just ONE of his 3 (giving he's not using Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel (God 1,2,3.)) My point is that when you have to RESORT to infinites after being took down a character or two, it's sad and pitiful seeing someone that knows how to play do that baby steps shit. Out of respect I don't infinite, just like out of respect I don't spam helpers and projectiles one after another.

Nonsensical codes of honor and respect do not win tournaments. Inifintes, assists, strategically placed projectiles, and learning to avoid them and the like win tournaments.

I'll help some of you new guys out. To get good at the game is gonna require some work, like any game. Get a good FAQ to study the mechanics of the game -> watch some top play videos to understand the concepts and how strategies are implemented -> go to training mode to practice and experiment. Then proceed to test out what you learned on the AI computer, then your buddies, and finally top players. Rinse and repeat.

Training is the best way to understand whats poss, and whats not. When you train, try to play with every char. possible. Mix & match team combinations to explore a GAZILLION varieties of gameplay. Take at least 2-5 hours a day (preferebly at night or weekn mornings) to practice. If you want to have a fav team, practice with them all day. Its like finding gold...once you find something, you want to keep diggin for more!!!

When I got this game my 1st yr of college (2004) for PS2, I tried various combinations of characters/assists. Doing this, I learned why the top players are the top players lol. :-X
I learned I'm more of a defensive-minded & patient player when it comes to MvC2, so I learned that Cable, IronMan and Blackheart are ideal characters for that style. Figure out what ur style is...there are top-tier (and a god-tier) to fit every style.

just because the programmers couldnt prevent info combos doesnt mean its ok just cuz its part of the game
however spamming projectiles...well thats something that i think is in the game so its ok and thats just cuz its not broken they CAN be avoided blocked etc

Justin understands the point of playing the game at high levels. There is no award for playing with characters that aren't top tier.
There are only awards for winning. And top players like Justin and Sanford know this, and play to do so.

@HoBBiT6921 haha wow info combos. Inf. combos take mad skill I can only do one set with magnus but im on the controller. EVERY character has an "info" combo even servbot. My friend hated inf. combos and he alsways cried about it saying it was cheap until I taught him how to do them and now he loves them. Then said i only hated them cuz I couldnt do them. But it took him 6 months of training to be good at them. This game is perfectly balanced but I do hate cables though. MSP and MSS FTW

@TheBlackdragon936 I disagree with your comment. This is easily one of the most broken (and best) fighting games out there. However, infinite combos ARE cheap. Not all of them take "mad skill" some are really quite simple. They exist because the game is unbalanced. I don't want to hit someone just once and start the combo and watch as they stand almost no chance of beating me or the other way around. There's no fun in that. Hence why they take more care these days to insure infinites don't exist

Ok so Wong almost beat Storm/Sent/Capcom with friggin Jill/Ruby/Ken. The computer RANDOMLY CHOSE THAT TEAM. Most of these "scrubs who only win with god tiers" you talk about? They're some of the best with low tiers too. However its a TOURNAMENT with MONEY. They're trying to win, and those teams are just the best at capitalizing on every mistake. In fact, God tier vs. God tier takes loads more skill than Low tier vs. Low tier IMO. Just my 2 cents.

After the launch, he xx (cancelled into) a super-jump and did a magic series (lp->lk>mp->mk), then xx air dash up-forward and did another magic series, and then xx Hyper-grab xx Magnetic-Tempest. This is Magnus' old-skool bread&butter. (:})

Infinite combos are the most exacting combos. It requires precise execution as well as years of practice. I've been practicing magneto's rom infinite for about 3 years, something like 2 hours a day and i still haven't mastered it. Its harder than it looks. It also isnt cheap because there is damage reduction.

There are a few ppl that can indeed pull off infinites (eg. ROM'ing) on the DC pad and some of them actually prefer pad over stick for regular play. However most players much rather use a stick.
I think whoever is serious about MvC2 will eventually get a stick for whatever system they have the game for. You will definitely need one if you want to consistently pull off advance combos and tactics. There *might* be a chance an 'official' MvC2 stick will be made ala SF4 tourney stick.

Google the agetec arcade stick. It's prolly the best for dreamcast fighting games. I have one that I modded with sanwa parts.
Other people might get the japanese versions of the Virtua stick and buy an adapter for it.
That being said, I know a few players that are at evo level and they use the controller. Blows my mind but they're good with it hehe
