  • How is this machine different from, say, a launchpad (aside from the obvious point that launchpads are made to work with ableton) or a monome?

  • Imagine íf Toshio Iwai made a Tenori-On APP for the iPAD

  • @kitsune2222 forerunner!! o.O

  • Hey does anyone know are all these the internal sounds?

  • yes they are

it tends toward the ambient electro IDM side of things...

this must have been one of the first TO videos filmed? 2005

  • *personal fun

  • i feel its something for more of a personal than actual music making.

  • Hi Toshio,

Check RHYTHMTANDEM for another great musical innovation!

  • If this is the best the inventor of the thing can do, it's pretty lame, in fact, embarrassing. There is a you tube that really sells the thing around here somewhere.

  • it runs on batteries

  • incorrect.

the cost is due to 6 years of development

it's not like making another keyboard synthesizer of empty controller...

  • it seemed like a neat new tool for modern music. but then as i watch more of these videos, i realize that its just like a keyboard. most keyboards already have the capacity to do these metronomical features.

  • without the awesome visual stimulous/feedback.

  • a musician has to do music...not awesome visual ;)

  • Blending creative mediums is how things evolve.

  • once you have it in your hands you realize how fast and different it is compared to the usual keyboard paradigm.

  • I found 2 for around 1,000$ US on ebay with an average of 14 bidders per each! People want them and its pricey. I suguest getting a program like fruity loops studios if you want to make music its what alot of hip-hop artists use today fyi. Nice, but expensive, toy nevertheless

  • I WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH THAT MACHINE!

  • It will be around $1,200.

  • How much would it cost? xD

  • yOU obviously dont know what your talking about,.

times change and methods of music production and tastes change - you stick with your guitar and stay in the 20th century.

the rest of us will move on into the 21st.

  • lol, fair enough mate,. i gotta admit i do love guitars too - but who knows maybe metalica will be playing the Tenori-on on there next album !! :-)

  • Gasp..after listening to Metallica's last three albums I think that they only would improve!!

Sure Tenori would result so much heavier than their "holy Anger"!^_^

  • I'm sure it'll sell like Mcdonald's fatburgers, but i'm struck by the idea that i'm watching a pong game from the 70's with flashing lights while a Japanese Godzilla soundtrack from the 60's flails away in the background.....where can i buy one:)

  • Star Trek TNG anyone? This is very "first season"

  • This is cool =)

  • pardon my incorrect spelling on the last comment.

  • the percussion sounds come the instumeant as well?

  • It comes with a drum kit.

  • Pussies complaining of seizures need to stay home away from bright lights.

The Right will hate this because it allows for creativity.

The Reich-Wing in America hates artistic creativity.

Look at art produced by the Nazis.

  • lol this has seizures written all over it, but over all this is a preaty inovativ thing for nowadays, they planing on making it so u can link up with ur friens seizure machine and make music together

  • how does dr dre use it when it hasn't come out yet

  • Thats what Dr. Dre uses when he makes beats. BTW i just had a seizure

  • i just had a seizure

  • ... and you have to plug it in at all times bcz the 16 D batteries would last about 2 minutes.

  • This is a piece of technology that is so complex that it is limited only by the human imagination. The sequence of possibilities is infinate and it is a stunning evolution in the world of music. A technological and spiritual marvel.

  • myself i think its annoying

  • damit it costs 1200$

  • awesome thats all i got to say

  • will someone please tell me what this is,cause i think its friggin awesome

  • its just a 16 step sequencer

  • kaoss pad is better

  • I love both music composition and games, but I would personally never pay more than $50 for one. In fact, I don't think I would buy one at all.

  • Congratulations..... good electronic, but, sorry....no music

  • THIS IS IT! THIS IS THE THING THAT MAKES THOSE SONGS THAT GET STUCK IN UR HEAD! lol

its more of a game or somethin than it is an instrument...its kinda cool but i would never actually buy 1.

  • give one to dr dre and another to pharrel jes to see what they come up wit.

  • Sorry, but I'm going to stick to instruments with real wood and steel strings.

  • O>O

    must getttt~

  • i wonder what kind of software went into that. that's got to be some complex stuff. and all the buttions... not only the 16x16 but the side/function buttons too. i bet there is combo functions too like hold shift + w/e kind of thing

  • Another exceptional Japanese invention. I agree I want one too.

  • Man, that thing would never leave my side. EVER!

  • Agreed. I want one, but apparently they cost like $1,000.00 US Dollars. Talk about a Christmas Present!

  • Thats a big ass christmas pesent haha

  • i want one !!!!

  • oh my god... i have to have one

  • wow... a hand held fruity loops program. very cool

  • I can see these being created up to 300 times the size and having people run around on them hahaha.

  • This instrument, only availaible in the UK for the moment, is about 1200$ US

You can upload it with ANY sound/color you want.

Good luck trying to find out one, their all out of stock :P

  • i sthis out already or is it a work in progress?

  • It is so cool! I want one!

  • I want one. It's admirable and will ameliorate mood.

  • this is really cool i wish i had one.... by the way all u ppl who dont like the sounds do some research, you can change them if u want & "add your own by hooking up a MIDI digital keyboard or transferring audio samples from your computer using an SD card."

  • It's basically a glorified version of that electroplankton 'game' he made for the DS. Even the sounds are the same.

  • it's look like a toy for me ummmmmm..... it's not for me

  • I would use taht, yes! Imagine a live DJ, using a lot of samplers and drummers and CDJs. He would aprecciate using a MIDI sequencer like that instead of using a computer under a low light ambient. What about that siclke cell taht most DJs are using, it seems even less usable thant that. To se if something is usable you first must use it. And of course, one thing that may not be useful to you may be to others.

And finally, before you critisize something, try doing it better.

  • I don't think it looks that useful... there are plenty of excellent sequencers out there, so why would you want to use this instead?

Cool, yes. Worth two months of rent, no.

  • there is a purpose, its a midi sequencer, and more advanced than traditional piano roll sequencers...you need to get the head out of your ass and appreciate this creative technology!

  • Nah, I have to agree that so far I have seen nothing goundbreaking or even very useful in this product. Maybe its strengths will become more evident when they release more informaiton but so far it looks like little more than a toy. As it is I would never waste $ on that. There are many, many, many more useful production tools to spend $ on.

  • Take your head out of your ass for a moment and you'll no doubt notice that this is ground breaking.

  • You couldnt find your head from yor ass with a map most likely. Shiny and sparkly does NOT equal ground breaking. Moron.

  • lol, if people buy over expensive guitars thinking they will sing better, just like people buy ronaldinho's jerseysm they will buy this..

    iPhone is proof :P

  • You're right that people will buy expensive kit thinking it will make them better musicians. But it's _also_ true that great musicians can make just about any instrument kick ass and I'm going to enjoy seeing what they do with the TenoriOn :)

  • looks cool, but i cant see its purpose..it does nothing you cant already do in a studio or even with decent production software. if anything it's more limited. but still fun to watch.

  • good bye Korg KAOSS

  • i want one lol, looks easy to make music even for noobs :)

  • That looks like something aliens would create.

  • yeah, they prolly stole the idea from a crashed space ship they found.

  • Wow! What an amazing instrument.

  • according to CNet, it'll retail for around $1,000 USD

  • me wants too

  • boring....

  • drooooool... i want

  • that's interesting,how uch.please tell me~

  • tio GRACIAS, THANKS, MERCI!!!!!

    Este video es impagable!!!
