Wow! Thanks for posting this, a real treat for those of us who never saw JR in action (pun intentional). This really is a great solo. I hope you decide to link some more! In the meantime, would it be possible to list the rest of the personnel? Thanks again!
great album J.R. made with Jimmy Garrison, Pete La Roca, Tommy Flanagan-was it called "Straight Ahead"? Had nice version of "Violet For Your Furs", a original melody based on "Get Happy" and several other originals- very enjoyable album!
That's a LOVELY tune..So plaintive..I always think of the last album Lady Day made..with Ray Ellis & Strings..her pipes had taken a hammering..but the emotion there always activates my tear ducts.
Do you know this album ?
If not check it out.EVEN though it's not J.R !!
I going to putting up a TERRIFIC piece on J.R. ref: my new Web Page,I'm creating "The Tenor"..but it will be awhile yet
Go on keeping those ears BIG & your optics sharp !
Hi Colin: I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip- Yeah, Lady Day was all about that "sound" she had unlike anyone else. Isn't that always the case wih a great artist? There's no confusing them with anyone else!
Listening to this on JR's birthday, missing him. Great video.
