I have this harddrive and it is not worth the purchase. Ask yourself what happens when your warranty runs out and you have everything on your external harddrive. Seagate doen not reapair if the warranty is out. Bad choice for me.
JUNK! I just bought Seagate 500gb free agent Go one week ago. It has already failed after extremely minimal use. Never dropped, just sat next to my computer to transfer simple video and text files which it did fine for 5 or 6 transfers before suddenly not transfering any more files ( with over 470 GB still free ), not recognizing itself and just beeps every 1 to 2 seconds! Seagate needs a lawsuit brought against them. I bought this as a reliable backup for my data.
I have also faced similar problem with seagate 500 gb dard srive come along with screen play hd of iomega s/n 9QM219H8. this has worked for one day and after that not recgnizing the same. I have approched local distributor but no propoer reponse. one should go for law suit against the company. Like us poor innocent customers are facing the problesm.
why does it ask if i want to back it up everday does this eatt up space i just want to back my files up this shit to complicated ive had it for 3 days now and ive just figure out how to put file on it but i still dont know how to veiw the damn files on it i got it barn new and it didnt come with a manual
if you've had that many drives fail on you in that amount of time, im pretty sure its user error, or a different hardware component in your system is the cause
I've bought 6 hard drives, both internal and external, from tigerdirect, and most were Seagate's. ALL eventually failed, on average less than 12 months. If you want to securely backup ur data, do it ONLINE! External hard drives, no matter the price, size or quality. ALL FAIL.
I can't wait til these "moving" disc drives finally die off for good and we are all using ssd's.
The FreeAgentXTremes are OK priced at around $150+tax for a Terabyte of storage. If you do buy an EXHD, don't buy cheap.
what about buying several different brands? and keep at least 2 back ups in separate locations? i have WD external hard drive and seagate freeagent desktop
Is that "you're so dumb" comment directed at me to? lol
Absolutely, with disc HDs having multiple backups are essential. In last 4-5 years, every hard drive I had has failed. I now got two new WD 1TB internals and I just bought a SeagateFreeAgent 1.5 Terabyte Desk. I made the mistake of buying two Fantom Green EHDs to store my music and video collection, I moved my pc to another room and when I powered up all info on both EHDs was gone. I'm up to 8 drives now, not counting my 3 new ones.

when the AC adapter for my WD hard drive failed they didnt replace it for me. i got it for less than 3 months and the customer support is terrible. i couldnt understand the asian guy they let me speak to. they dont wanna replace the AC adpter stating the warranty is only for the hard drive and not the parts itself
I have a problem with my usb external hard drive, Everytime i plus it into my laptop nothing happens. But the blue light comes on.... on my usb hard drive.
My 320gb seagate free agent has died as well. They will more than likely replace it but I want my data more than a replacement hard drive that may crash again. Does anyone know how to get the data out?
It seems that everyone is pissed off with the lifespan of seagate's external hard drives. I was about to get the "free agent go" but I think I will pass.
The FreeAgent software is not needed for OS X, anyway. With Time Machine, I can make automatic backups at a set time and it integrates better with the OS.
I had an external hard drive from Seagate and it died in less than four months as well. I also found the USB cable (one side for power, the other for power and data) to be seriously annoying. Granted you can use only one side of the cable, but somehow it feels wrong having one cable dangling off the drive. I am very disappointed in my dead Seagate drive and would highly reccommend to everyone using one to back up your files on a more reliable drive.
i have a macbook pro and a pc.. it works great with my pc, but when i connect it to my mac i cannot drag and drop it says i cant modify the drive does anyone know how i can fix this problem?
the drive is formatted in ntfs and mac can read it but not write it. if you reformat in fat it should work with both. but fat makes you have partitions and each one can only be as big a 32 gigs.
My Seagate laptop hard drive (80GB) died today after LESS THAN 4 MONTHS. I never had any drive fails in over 20 years of owning computers. I will stay away from Seagate drives, especially Made in China stuffs if possible.
What the hell? Just about everything electronical in your house is made in China, especially from parts in your compter. Hell, shoes you wear are possibly made in China. The monitor you're using? Bet you that's made in China too.
Seagate's enclosure is garbage. The drive fails after just a few months and many have either taken sledgehammers to it or placed them in new enclosures. Got 2 words for you... TRY AGAIN. You do not pass go. You do not collect $200. The End.
because its the only mac that you can customise as in putting extra shit on it. you need a eSATA port on your mac... which the only mac that allows you to add extra ports is the mac pro (i looked everwhere to see if i could do this to my imac, but i didnt find anything. if YOU do, pm me) thnx
It works with Time Machine, on both MacBook AND MacBook Pro. I don't advise getting it though because it will fail on you after a few months (if not earlier) and will not mount, although it may still spin. This is a common problem, no matter what Seagate says. Seagate will seemingly honor their warranty, but will you will still have to pay hundreds of dollars to recover your gigs of data. BUY THIS DRIVE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I recommend something by Iomega.
I laughed so mutch. take notice of how mutch he expresses with his hands. lol. different movements through the movie all the way. lol. fun. I am allso going to buy one :)

Hi Bro! good work! BTW, use the Delock eSATAp cable. it is USB compatible & can even power up a 3.5" HDD/SSD or a 5.25" DVD-RW.
Note: so far only Delock provided eSATAp capable device.
