@nyrbsamoht , this footage is from the film-documentary "Gasherbrum - Der leuchtende Berg", directed by Werner Herzog, 1985. Actually one of the most interesting films about climbing or about Messner.
Yup bottled O2 is cheating. You climb a mountain with bottled O2 , you didn't climb it. In some respects it is more difficult, you have to carry all that O2 in place. Tough luck. If you use O2 it's cheating, and it is also tragic because all these tourists now go to these big peaks who have no business being there and think they are doing something while polluting the place, and destroying the culture. Without O2 those parasites wouldn't be there.
If you need Sherpa or 'support porters' or guides or fixed ropes or bottled 02, then you shouldn't be on the mountain. It's disrespectful to the people, the mountain and you. RM is The Man, for sure, but he ain't no yeti.
Does anyone know where I can watch the parts of this documentary where Messner talks about the potential of death in the mountains, the death of his brother and the risks one takes?
Crazy Sherpa but without them you couldn't go up there into thin air by yourself except for the few like Monsieur Messner...By the way the next time a woman ask me if my little man have a name i will answer Sherpa baby Sherpa because without him i can't climb you love....
@phatasm: your right dude, I google Gasherbrum...You know I like to see a competitions between Sherpas and Porters...Who was the first porter to summit K2???
That guys stole every jewel off Reinhold's body. I think he even took the fillings out of his teeth, too... LOL...
Locals are always good at taking from the tourists. Whether it's an accidental bump on a crowded subway train in New York or a full body massage 20,000 ft. up in the Himalayas - the locals are always up to no good =)!
Reinhold Messner: Living Legend. Greatest of the great mountaineers. (And sucker for the old " let me give you a massage and empty out your pockets" routine.)
JackREst: LOL... I'm just messing around, mannn. If anything, the Sherpas deserve way more than we pay them so I'd never get mad at one of them if my watch ended up missing on a climb... LOL... It's all good. Plus, all the garbage and shit we leave behind on their land. They definitely deserve more in terms of pay, that's for sure.
How fine are our help and how LOYAL a Professional Masseuse is to all who employ them.
A Personal Assistant unquestionably is indispensable. Having one dedicate to a specific task at being a living minder and LOG, if they are NOT acknowledged properly and conpensated for their diligence..you will find yourself at the mercy of less than worthy HELP when you most need it.
Sich Entbehrungen auferlegen...isn't going to get you ANYWHERE.
you know that this was a movie made by the famous movie maker werner herzog? the name is "gasherbrum - der leuchtende berg". this was the day before messner and kammerlander started their double climb on G2 and Hidden Peak. never done again.
@theonlythingtofearis I feel if you lose your brother wile mountaineering you should bring a cam with you at all times. He lost his brother while climbing together.
But this video is made before his clib of Nanga Parbat? I read his book about this montain, the most dangerous montain in the world, where his brother is death.

Really. I would trade a massage every day for no sex ever again.

Look at it this way: Yaks are Nepalese horses; goraks eating dead climbers are Nepalese eagles; and that's Nepalese massage.

Oh yeah...I'm Reinhold Messner, I climb a catrillion peaks without oxygen or a team.
Only one exception, I MUST have my masseuse with me at all times. And a person to document my massages.
I love this guy.
