Johnny Mathis has probably the best technical use of a microphone (with Tony Bennett). Far from the mouth, he can modulate the sound very easily. But this technical needs a perfect voice and a LOT of practice. The late French artist Henri Salvador used to say that a microphone is a musical instrument by itself., not only a transducer.

For Mr. Mathis, the voice is almost always the same it used to be.....

Wow! Johnny Mathis still sounds so great even at 73. I hope this man will be given the proper recognition for his contribution to the music world. He's the real living legend.
