It ain't nicknamed SpoKomptom for nuthin. I have heard a lot about this city being really trashy with a high crime rate. I also read that the Wiggers per capita in Spokane is the highest in the world!!!
@IrishRail123 That is a Mars light. It was standard equipment on all SP GS-3, GS-4, and GS-5 class 4-8-4s. The MARS light serves as an extra warning that a train is approaching. The GS class engines were also equipped with an air-horn due to the foggy conditions they ran in near LA in the 1940s and 50s.
It's great to see this train repainted in it's original colors. I saw her in person when I was kid when she was the freedom train.Of course she was red white and blue then. I would love to see her in person again
Speaking as a UK train-buff brought up in the diesel era I thought this looked insanely large, noisy and garish and I can only imagine the smell.
I loved it!
It's a shame about the diesel marshalled right behind the kettle and horning in on the soundtrack but I guess it's providing auxiliary power for the passenger stock.
very nice thanks for posting this I passed it outside of Havre Montana the BNSF decided to hold them in a sideing outside of town for our Amtrak departure I was going west them east I got a brief glimse but no shot we passed each other to close for a shot and you know Amtraks damn policy of opening the little window so no shot but I dis get to see the 844 a week later this train sure had a nice assortment of old private railcars I know all the owners of them

My first thought on seeing 4449 in 1976, was I had no idea steam engines were so huge!
She looks best in her original livery.

What better way to celebrate Independence Day? Nothing beats a classic steam engine and some great passenger cars. Thanks for posting this video!

She had the double beam one installed in the late 40's and carried it thru 2008. A home- made one was built by Doyle.
