First of all, I want to thank Ms. Neela Wikremasinghe, for the detailed introduction of our One and Only Veteran Dr.Pundit W.D.Amaradewa, who touched our hearts from the dayone. I became a very good fan of Neela Wickramasinghe after watching the movie ‘Gahanu Lamai” and the song was “Viyo Gee Gayina”. Unfortunately, younger generation has no clue about our great artists who sung songs closer to reality.
Dear Manel, I once sang the song of Sunil Santha " Santha Me Ra yamee" to an audience of 9000 people backed just by a Greek trio in the Nocosia Stadium on thier National day ! Miles from home and all on your own , that is when you feel lonely ! And when I completeted the song 3 solid minuites of Cheer makes you think that you are capable ! Long live Sinhala Music our common heritage !
@Tamilonthestreet Thanks for sharing your experience.. It must have been great singing in front of such an appreciative audience.. Sunil Shantha songs are always unique and have unusual melodies..
@Tamilonthestreet You have named a very old drama song...I will try my best to let you know how to get the lyrics..But I think since it is a very rare song it may be rather difficult to find it..
The song " Kawala Wilanda Jathie " is a lovely song and it seems like you know much about the yester year songs. Thanks....
There were a boy and a girl at University of Peradeniya. They were deeply in love. But their parents were against this affair. Yet the young couple's love did not die. This was their song.
@KurtWagnr Thanks for your visit and comments...It is indeed such a lovely love song sung so nicely and it expresses the life experience of some people..All the best.
The 81 year old genius and humble Neela. I used to like this song so much back in the 80s when it first came on radio. I can still see the same excitement after 25+ years of the first version.
Any word that comes from Pundit's voice makes it so special - what an asset we have. I heard he is sick lately and sincerely wish him all the best to recuperate soon.
The lyrics by Ajantha. How nice they are. Typical of him.
Great Singer!

That evening I also sang the Greek song "Sobah" and Ralph McTell's "Streets of London" both bottom of heart songs !
The meaning of the Lyrics and the melody and the rhythm combination is very rare !
Regardless of Colour Creed and Cast I look for this commodity world wide !
