  • I didn't know he can even play a point in HD.

  • You cannot be serious!

  • And his volleys are still stuff of legend. I brought up the comparisons with he and Isner's volleys. Isner has the touch of a brick. McEnroe of a pillow.

  • He is playing like the old days.hahahaha. matured but still kicking and strong.

  • mcenroe´s footwoork is bad

  • The only serve is still the same !

  • he looks like a retard with his forehand

  • Can we see more serve and volley from Johnny Mac in HD?

  • I wish it was possible to see prime JMac in HD...

  • he still looks like he's playiing prime =P

  • hehe he still plays like the old days, takes you back

  • His forehand looks like hes hitting it with a continental grip.

  • his forehand looks like he's hitting it with a mace

  • I see he still employs that old continental style

  • that style is so gay.... I bet i can beat him if he continues to use that style... No topspin at all.

  • Anonymous2431, unless you're a touring pro, you're a fool to think you'd stand a chance against McEnroe. He beat Sampras in 2008-- think you could do the same? Looks aren't everything.

  • obviously looks aren't everything and i know i wouldn't stand a chance against him. I admire McEnroe but its just that his style is so outdated that its near obsolete. Even if McEnroe was in his prime, i doubt he would be able to beat a top 100 tennis player now.

  • Mcenroe in his prime was playing with 13 oz wood racquets at max 65 sq inches in lightning fast grass courts. People develop their styles based on the time and the equipment. Semi western forehands are well suited to 100 sq inch light racquets. I bet you all these guys in the top 100 if they used wood will lose to Mac on grass his prime also, maybe Fed will give him a match, but no one else. Nadal? forget it

  • Its not fair to compare eras when the equipment are so different. Continental grips are better suited to the era of serve and vollyers. I dont think that he can change his style now like you think he should because he has played the same since he was a kid. though its antiquated, I like to see mac and connors and all the all time greats and I have an appreciation of the history of tennis and why people played the way they did. maybe someday you'll have that appreciation too when you are older

  • Dig it, except Mac always strung his rackets loosely. But yah, unless you are top level college or a touring pro you're not going to beat McEnroe, sorry.

Styles and technology definitely have changed and he is one of relatively few players who still plays competitive tennis who grew up playing wood.

  • @KingCast65 That's funny. Why he'd string his rackets loosely baffles me. He had the power of a 90 year old grandma. Loose strings are for big hitters.

  • @jakemcclain30

But loose = MORE power, not less. Mac used the strings for power that he didn't really generate himself, it was his ball placement and let's face it his ripped backhand cross court pass is one of the best the game has ever seen.

  • Mac's tennis IQ would near him in the top 3 in the world today. his serve and volley game was phenomenal.

  • Youre right, we wouldnt stand a chance against 100 Tourpros now, but you just cant compare tennis back then to tennis now... Tennisstars nowadays train like all their lives just to become a tennispro one day, go to tennisschools etc. That is something that didnt exist when McEnroe started his career. Ofcourse they were training alot as well but its not that "getting build for tennis" stuff... Every Atp 50 player would just stomp the court cause of his physical advantages

  • Because of his style he'd be able to be a top 5 player in his prime. No one plays like him, and it's hard to adjust to. Besides great players of any era would still be great if given the same equiment. I'd like to see nadal try to hit with the wood racquets Mcenroe played with. It would probably make nadal decide to stick with soccer.

  • @MrPernell27 I get your point, but Nadal HAS played with the wood rackets. His uncle Toni raised him, and used to give him the shittiest equipment to make him adapt to anything. He'd give anyone a fight with a wood racket.

  • consider he was beating mancini on the slowest german clay when mancini was 10 ATP (in 1991). 61 62 and just slice-and-volleying him away. i´d be happy to hear your mouth still wide open;)

  • (mac was about 65 at that time)

  • @toratorator He isn't 65 now.

  • @darkburnout00 what else can he do? He can't learn the new stroke overnight

  • @1313tennisman

It's not a criticism, I just think it's pretty cool.

  • Look at him go!
