If this a golden orb weaver it can catch a bird in its web when their fully mature. They can five different structure layers to their web when they have enough room.

We had a golden orb weaver in our backyard for a couple years in New orleans it made web 20ft across and more than 20ft high stretch between to trees. We decided to let it stay and actually put up a small fence to keep us from accidently running into it. We also didn't have too many problem with bees and wasp during that time.lol

do you know why i hold my 3 spiders which i found in winter hanging around LONELY? because i hate bees, im scared of them, and maybe in summer they help me, i did also do a right thing, if i would ingore the spider he would get freezed and die but houses are warm, i help them because if we were spiders and would be lonely in the winter, we would die too, i dont want the same feeling for them, animal perosn ftw
