4 years late but better than nothing. I've only had on best friend. We were friends for 4 years. All through high school. We choose different colleges to attend and that is when my best friend sort of went wild. While going wild she thought that choosing boys over her best friend was a smarter choice. So last year I lost my best friend because of a boy. So now, like you, I just choose to have many friends. =)

when i was younger i had a best friend but then i moved and then i had a different best friend and then i moved and then i had 2 best friends and then i moved and the i realized i didn't need to have only 1 best friend so now i have friends from all over Australia who are all amazing and i couldn't live without any of them so i know that you probably wont read this but i just think i should say you can definitely have more then one best friend

I think a best friend is someone with whom you can tell anything to. Someone who makes you laugh when you feel like crying and finally someone who is always there for you, in good and bad times. I am lucky enough to have four people in my life that fit that. Two are my cousins so... yeah. The other two are in my class in school. One I have been friends with literally since I was born. The other one I only met in September but we r already really close.
I have one person who I will always class as my bestfriend simply because we have been friends since I was born, As she is 11 months older than me. We did everything together as kids and now i always visit her to catch up since i moved away. :3

We didn't become best friends from the first day,though. I not remember pretty well , but it must have been somewhere round 3rd grade when we started playing and talking all the time. She even was the first girl I revealed my secrets to. She is still my bf and i love her :):)
I think I've got a fair few friends - people I get on with and hang out with a bit; and only a few really good friends - I love spending time with them, we make each other laugh and do random stuff. I have a few people who I count as my best friends who I can tell anything, hang out endlessly with even when we're doing nothing at all - they're basically the most awesome people I know, they're like my siblings (including my actual brother lol).
I have some good friends, but being the girl that I am, most of my friends are guys, thus they come and go... I literally have one really really good friend, but she decided to go to boarding school like 1000 miles away so I hardly get to talk to her now... she's still awesome though :)

We became better friends each year and in 5th grade she move to utah {I live in TX}. We are in 7th grade now and we still talk everyday. I met my best friend in 2ND GRADE. She has "trained" me to act not girly (though i still am a bit) and I've sort of become like her baby sitter (we joke i'm her "away from home mom"). Our other best friend I met in kindergarten and i was the first person she met in our town (though it wasn't until 6th grade when my other best friend from 2nd grade drifted away that we actually became close to her). We actually have a movie group called the Hombre Squad including us three and their boyfriends.
I lost my best friend whom I knew pretty much since day 1 when I was 9 years old and his father got a job 2 hours driving distance away and they moved. We tried to keep in touch but it didn't really work because of the distance.
I had another best friend later but he moved schools and started to hang out with other "tough" of whom I was none and so I lost him too.

I don't think I have a best friend. I do have friends who are closer to me than other friends, but I feel like if I call someone my beat friend, then all my other friends will feel less important, and that isn't true. I love my friends, but I don't like to call them my best friends.
I love how you stood up for gay rights when you were a kid even though you didn't know what that was. I used to think I had a lot of best friends untill I found out most of them thought I was the creepy annoying kid. This one girl in grade 2 or 3 started insulting me every time she passed me on the playground. I have friends now though... I think. me and my friend, work at the same restaurant and some days are hard and some are easy cause we are the only two workers and we work different shifts and when one cancels theres normally a huge fight and then the next day we forget it and move on this happens at lease twice a month :P
I think you can have best friends and be friends with everyone else (that you actually like) at the same time.. It doesn't get in each others way. you have different levels of friendship for each person.

Best friends have always had a sour spot for me. Something always happens. I decided I was over the whole BFF let's tell each other everything thing by the time i was 11 because I came to the conclusion no one could be trusted. I recently met this girl who is JUST like me and thought, "hey this is nice. Maybe she could be my best friend" which was stupid because I sent her a text saying "I miss you like Bella misses Edward" as a joke, she now thinks I'm gay, and no longer talks to me. Wohoo! lol

When I was 3 my best friend was my mom's best friend's daughter and we always played together and we only ever had one big fight abd that was over who got to swingon the tire swing behind her house first,

I think it's ok to have a "best" friend, but i believe that you should be open to everyone! my school is small and people tend to have that best friend and then really not talk to anyone else they find is "below" them. I never had much luck with 'best friends' until I was sixteen, and I think my friendship with my best friend only really worked because I changed schools and we didn't have all the secondary school drama for our relationship to cope with deal, it was just us hanging out, sharing obsessions, being dorks, which was great. We've been best friends for five years now, it is nice. I think if you can maintain that kind of friendship after the convenience of high school it's a pretty good indication.
I agree! Best friends are overrated. When you have a group of friends and you call one your best friend, everyone else gets jealous. When your best friend is of the opposite sex, everyone assumes you're dating and neither of you can get a date. When one decided that going to college means putting their 'high school days behind' them, including you, it hurts. A lot. Therefore, it's much better to just have a few close friends. That way, when one's a jerk, you have another one to turn to.
I've been best friends with the same girl since I was two and she was three. But since she was a class higher than me, we kinda lost contact halfway through lower school. So I got a new best friend from my class, who later turned out not to be a friend at all. To me, she was my best and only friend, to her I was just some weird girl. Then when I was 12 I went to the same school my first best friend was now on, and we got really close again. She is still my best friend now that I'm 18. :3

Don't remember much about when I was still in kindergarten but I had a best friend that I knew since I was 4? and we kinda were "official" best friends when we were in yr 3 and then she suddenly disappeared (left school, without telling any classmates. It had to do with my family and her family's problems etc, found her again through the internet a couple of years ago) after that, I've never dared to make ppl that 'official' to me any more. So I now have a couple of close friends and normal ones

I have had my best friend since the first grade, we managed to stay in contact trough even the roughest parts of our lives: moving away from each other, not seeing one anoter for years at a time, founding own families (she has husband and son) or spending 10 month in New Mexico with wolves. I have some good friends, but being the girl that I am, most of my friends are guys, thus they come and go... I literally have one really really good friend, but she decided to go to boarding school like 1000 miles away so I hardly get to talk to her now... she's still awesome though :)

i got my first best friend when i was only 4 and she was my best friend up until we were about 13 then she moved school and we don't really talk anymore BUT when i moved up to secondary school i gained another best friend when i would have only been 11 but now I'm 16 and were still best friends and help each other through everything and anything and my new best friend and i are more alike than we thought because we are both bisexual so yeh and there is nothing wrong with being gay :)

I met my best friend in 2ND GRADE. She has "trained" me to act not girly (though i still am a bit) and I've sort of become like her baby sitter (we joke i'm her "away from home mom"). Our other best friend I met in kindergarten and i was the first person she met in our town (though it wasn't until 6th grade when my other best friend from 2nd grade drifted away that we actually became close to her). We actually have a movie group called the Hombre Squad including us three and their boyfriends.

I lost my best friend whom I knew pretty much since day 1 when I was 9 years old and his father got a job 2 hours driving distance away and they moved. We tried to keep in touch but it didn't really work because of the distance.
I had another best friend later but he moved schools and started to hang out with other "tough" of whom I was none and so I lost him too.
I had another best friend but a few years back he made a new friend in his class and so the decline of our friendship began...

I love how you stood up for gay rights when you were a kid even though you didn't know what that was. I used to think I had a lot of best friends untill I found out most of them thought I was the creepy annoying kid. This one girl in grade 2 or 3 started insulting me every time she passed me on the playground. I have friends now though... I think. I have five best friends (can that count?!) One of them I've know since per-school, we were like inseparable until year 8 in Secondary school when we didn't really talk much at all.. but now we're really close again :) One of the people in our five I currently feel closest too so I suppose that you could call her my best friend, but it changes throughout our five. Best friends have always had a sour spot for me. Something always happens. I decided I was over the whole BFF let's tell each other everything thing by the time i was 11 because I came to the conclusion no one could be trusted. I recently met this girl who is JUST like me and thought, "hey this is nice. my best friend went to a diff secondary school to me, otherwise i think we'd still probably be best friends, but we're still great friends :D My best friends now, are wonderful xD i think idk, sometimes its really important to have a group of friends that you can really genuinely rely on, rather than having a string of friends that end up becoming nothing more than people you say hi to when you pass them. I've known my friends for +7 years and I hope to know them for many many more :D

Then we kind of drifted apart as a group and me and her went out for a year or so. I had lots of best friends when i was young but I came to a point where I realised I had no real close friends halfway through high school and thats when I came to the same sorta conclusion, If I cant have a best friends I'll just be everybody's friend. I think it is more of a big thing when you're a kid, you sort of begin to form bonds and they seem more important than they might do when you're older.

I think it's ok to have a "best" friend, but i believe that you should be open to everyone! my school is small and people tend to have that best friend and then really not talk to anyone else they find is "below" them. i always thought my 5 bfs would be my best friends for all of my days. in 6 grade, 5 became 4. in eighth grade, 4 became 3. the 3 best friends i had were like sisters. Then came high school.
i'm a senior now. Sadly, i've just realized just how distant we have all become. One friend moved awhile back and i was dumb to think we'd still be close. Another, i still talk to. The friend i considered my true best friend made new friends.
but that's okay. because i've made new best friends, too.

I never had much luck with 'best friends' until I was sixteen, and I think my friendship with my best friend only really worked because I changed schools and we didn't have all the secondary school drama for our relationship to cope with deal, it was just us hanging out, sharing obsessions, being dorks, which was great. We've been best friends for five years now, it is nice. I think if you can maintain that kind of friendship after the convenience of high school it's a pretty good indication.

I agree! Best friends are overrated. When you have a group of friends and you call one your best friend, everyone else gets jealous. When your best friend is of the opposite sex, everyone assumes you're dating and neither of you can get a date. When one decided that going to college means putting their 'high school days behind' them, including you, it hurts. A lot. Therefore, it's much better to just have a few close friends. That way, when one's a jerk, you have another one to turn to.

I've been best friends with the same girl since I was two and she was three. But since she was a class higher than me, we kinda lost contact halfway through lower school. So I got a new best friend from my class, who later turned out not to be a friend at all. To me, she was my best and only friend, to her I was just some weird girl. Then when I was 12 I went to the same school my first best friend was now on, and we got really close again. She is still my best friend now that I'm 18. :3

Aiden and me are such great friends but he is hanging round with other people now and I'm afraid I'm not sure if we are best friends anymore but OH WELL.

Don't remember much about when I was still in kindergarten but I had a best friend that I knew since I was 4? and we kinda were "official" best friends when we were in yr 3 and then she suddenly disappeared (left school, without telling any classmates. It had to do with my family and her family's problems etc, found her again through the internet a couple of years ago) after that, I've never dared to make ppl that 'official' to me any more. So I now have a couple of close friends and normal ones

I could say I've had my best friend since... kindergarden... [yeah, my very first memories start in kindergarden, so I could say I've known her all my life]. We were really good friends then, she was the one I liked to play with the most, so you could say we were best friends. But in the first grade she went to another school so I haven't met her at all in about 4-5 years' time, but when we finally did, kinda by chance, we started meeting more often :) ...aaand she's still my best friend, yay!

I have had my best friend since the first grade, we managed to stay in contact trough even the roughest parts of our lives: moving away from each other, not seeing one anoter for years at a time, founding own families (she has husband and son) or spending 10 month in New Mexico with wolves. Non of this was able to "seperate" us and every conversation is still like we haven't been apart at all. I love U, Sweetie!

I've had the same best friend since I was 4 years old (22 now). We have had our ups and downs like any relationship but we've always got each others back. Love her! :)

i had the same problem, i kept losing best friends :/ after i was reluctant to even have another best friend but since that i've change to having more than one best friend and then the others are good friends and so on....
right now i'm 21 and i have a handful of friends that i will be really REALLY happy if i end up knowing and hang out with till i die. <3

I had a best friend in kindergarten. Her name was Anna and we hung out aaaaaallll the time. She was my best friend up until last year when another girl came along and the only topic they would talk about was boys. Don't get me wrong I have guy friends but I'm not into the "boys" topic. I actually think it's quite stupid. So I never really spoke during lunch and nobody listened to me when I did including Anna. So I started sitting with another girl that is no my BFF. And I rarely talk to Anna.Yup
