Schipa IS my fav tenor (have most of his recordings)--although was voice was small indeed, the technique is impeccable, annunciation incredible--and, as a former dancer, you are able to actually "dance" to his voice (understand he helped Joan Crawford when he was in Hollywood). Met Opera made the correct decision in choosing Gigli over him as he (nor Gigli later on w/his lyric tenor) could replace Caruso in 1921 (Gigli developed that sob to gain breath for dramatic roles, I was told).
Beautiful, very natural, full of simplicity. Reminds us that the "grazia" by tenors relies in the quality of the emission. A relaxed throat, a very elegant sound, make for a great singer who doesn't try to sing bigger than he is. He's using his mask perfectly, without projecting too much. The voice is so balanced, everything is at its right place. Then the music can play. Wonderful artist.
A great interpretation...although my heart claims Luciano's as the best rendition of this song, Schipa nonetheless fails to disappoint. Very strong and upbeat. I really enjoy this rendition
Schipa has such a beautiful, agile lyric voice - Pavarotti admired him greatly. His voice never disappears into the haze of vibrato like so many other singers' :)
Grazie mille Philly 1967 for posting the "Napolitano" lyrics to this wonderful tune.Che bellissima canzone e che bella voce. One of the best light, lyric tenors ever.He had marvelous diction and phrasing.Bravissimo Schipa!
great video

The first picture looks so very much like Jascha Heifetz. Only a picture. Many great renditions by Tito Schipa.

Quanno sponta la luna a Marechiare pure li pisce 'nce fanno all'ammore
Sti ddoje stelle li ssaccio i' sulamente, dint'a lu core ne tengo li pponte...
(Music by Paolo Tosti, lyrics by Salvatore di Giacomo, 1886)
