I don't know which constantinople ride, there are 6, but I think it is the constantinople Over-Hammered thin Ride

Actually I know he uses constantinoples =] but I know for a fact that it's not thin overhammered, that's because I'm a happy owner of a const. overhammered ride and antonio's ride is way more dry than the overhammered.

I suspect it's a left side ride ( 22 inch ) used as a main ride.

I really enjoyed his explanation of different styles/independence, as a 1 or 2 limb ostinato and the other limbs "commenting" on the music. Excellent description.

if he could use his penis hitting the snare drum while playing with the left foot playing clave in 5/4 or 7/8 right foot emulating bata drums, lef hand playing toms hi hat block cowbell on a melody, right hand playing toms, swing an override on ride cymbal, also singing pat metheny´s song "first circle" in 22/8 [for those curious is 5(3-2)7(3-2-2)10(3-3-2-2)] he would do it, believe he would.

note: snare drum will be played in syncopation not on 2 & 4.

I agree that the Drum'n Bass-Groove in the beginning ist really not the real thing...it's to rush and would need to be less sloppy and more tight...but for Latin and Jazz Antonio ist just awesome, just is sound, technique and coordination ist extreme...when playing straight eight notes he uses moeller technique on an incredible level, that's how he gets his speed.for the rest he also developed great motion whcih gives him this fluidity and flexiblity

Nah i'm sorry. I know he has unique jazz approach and nice latinjazz ability, but the drum and bass thing sounds awkward. No groove, no consistency. Say and think what you want. Vut when was the last time you saw Antonio Sanchez's name on a funk album? Never. How about anything real groovy with a backbeat?

true but not completely. the groove depends on the listener in my opinion; and just because people disagree with me doesn't make me wrong. someone else interprets the music differently is all. when was the last time you can honestly say you saw somebody play 4-5 different types of clave at the same time? he's not grooving because he's most of the time soloing over a clave. if you listen to like any of the "speaking of now" album you'll understand. (i hope)

what I love most about this guy is how PRECISE he is. if you hear him live with his group or with Pat, EVERY single thing he does is critical to the music and not just a drummer showing how fast or loud he can play. This dude is like a neurosurgeon.....every little thing counts

He is a good as it gets in his unique style. Jojo Mayer might have his whole thing but it has nothing to do with Antonio and his drumming. He is better than most every other drummer I have come across because he has such an understanding , not only of his instrument but music in general. Enough where you could listen to him alone or with a band and it always feels right.

not into this...no doubt the guy is an excellent musician and very studied. It just doesn't feel right. That groove at very top of the video was very weird. I think he was going for drum and bass, but it didn't groove whatsoever. The latin drumming is his forte. He should stick to that. As far as holding the sticks. Well sure, his technique isn't great, but he get what he wants out of it. His feet are all out of whack too.
