  • The best authority on best how to tackle poverty are those who have experienced it firsthand. Not those who like in a little bubble of poverty and unreality on planet ivory tower in London.

  • I think in the end personal choices and family ,have a the biggest impact on success or failure.............My wife and I , have 7 sons and we thrive...

  • It's all very well Cameron and the other Etonians being concerned for the poor and oppressed in our society, but this concern is merely a form of sublime power which wants to rule and to be able to exert influence and tweak society in favor of the rich, for the rich protect their own, maintain it and keep it.

  • @DarrenACooper Because the root is the source of all power.

  • This guy will never be able to connect with orindary people. Did you know that this man is related to William IV and Elijah Levita? Yes. He is of Jewish aristocratic descent.

  • When will the Conservatives do something about buy-to-let property investment? One of the best things about Mrs Thatcher's premiership was her commitment to a home owning democracy, but this has been completely undermined by buy-to-let. It's also a morally repugnant activity as it allows landlords to profit from the very conditions that they help to create (i.e. inflated house prices). It's about time "real" investment was encouraged, for instance in manufacturing.

  • Generic comment about Cameron being rich and not understanding the poor.

  • instead we are labelled as lazy, scrounging, unintelligent and uncaring. My 11 yr old is happy, well balanced, bright, and respectful, my toddlers are well cared for. I did not notice David Cameron asking me what I think. IDS says we are the cause of the downfall of society & my children are 9 times more likely to be criminals. How dare he? Come and see me Dave, spend a day in my shoes. I'd love to work, it'd be like a holiday.

  • "keeping families together" does not take into account the individual circumstances. Many people find themselves as single parents through domestic violence, abuse, death and abandonment. 99% of people do not choose to be a lone parent. It has been quoted that single parents are the cause of the breadown of society. that's not true. Having the choice to be free of fear and violence, having to deal with the loss of a partner, being left to pick up the pieces when a mum or dad leaves....

  • keeping families together that would be a good start in life for children

  • @MrFes888 Keeping families together can cause trauma in children. Mum and dad should not stay together for the sake of the kids, if they no longer love each other. The kids end up worse off.

  • To be honest most people in poverty in Britain are in that situation because they put themselves there. Pretty much everybody gets a chance at education in the UK and if people aren't going to try and just treat it as a laugh, what can you expect? Funding poverty just makes it worse because people end up relying upon benefits and not bothering to fend for themselves.

Similar to the third world. Charities just fund the people instead of helping them to generate their own income and self-support.

  • @jazcash Complete crap. Its not lack of possibility of education that makes people not take it seriously or fall into poverty. Its having the wrong idols, the wrong surroundings, the wrong family history. By sending people to jail instead of making them to community service, the government turns them into idols for those who want to be bad-ass, lifting weights in jail looks a lot cooler than looking after disabled people right?

Its about the surrounging we give them and the message we send them.

  • @LylesgoldMusic That's what the BNP are all for.

  • @jazcash come one, you can do better than that. The BNP are definetely not for that. They are for much harsher punishments. What i suggested is a far more liberal system than the one now, and if theres one thing the BNP arent, its socially liberal.

Please dont try to make me look like a BNP supporter, its childish, and complete crap anyway.

  • @LylesgoldMusic Childish? I'm just stating a fact that one of the BNP's policies is to get criminals out working instead of being in prison. There's nothing wrong with that and I totally agree.

  • @jazcash in that case im sorry. But its still not necessary to point that out. unless your a BNP supporter and are trying to promote their policy. If not, i see no reason in pointing that fact out.

  • @LylesgoldMusic I do support the BNP.

  • Trouble is when the dole money is cut and they start getting scurvy, they have to treated in n,h.s. hospitals so there goes your saving. Friedman said you have to go the whole hog. in capitalism

  • Companies need skills and educated people. Poor education would normally then mean poor job prospects but these days even if you come out of university the prospects aren't good. So therefore the only party that will help solve problems is the party that backs businesses. Without business growth there is no job growth.

  • im only 12.and i dont get all the words ur using but i get sum of them and ur right vote i wuold vote for u if i could

  • So you're saying, "sort it out yourselves because we are NOT going to help, we'll be too busy working out tax breaks for our corporate buddies who paid for our election."

  • what a cock

  • Cameron keeps interrupting the people he's talking to. Obviously he is full of contempt and looks annoyed at times like he's passively telling people to hurry up and finish their stories because he has a meeting to get to in 15 minutes.

  • David Cameron doesn't know what it's like to be hard-working and poor.

Bottom line - poverty in Britain cannot be stopped by cutting public services, how are people meant to get to school/work, without a public transport system, or even a school/job to go to?

you can polish a turd "Dave", stop trying.

  • the tories started the social divide and decline....and come visit an housing estate up north dave....cos people do exsist out of london

  • Greedy social workers and other Local Authority workers who are paid basis of academic sewage. How do you expect a person not even on level one of aca-scale achieve, when give way under pressure weight of written documented garbage carried by these psycho- institutionalized fascists.

What happened to dynamic Britain, we have become academic straight jacket wearers so now closed down, reference ability think, many employees so robotic, able predict their application to working environment.

  • @Leesome1 WHAT?

  • We have been promised end to poverty for several decades by different administrations.

Labour/Tory are BOTH THE SAME. BOTH are a waste of time and are NOT going to do anything about the problem.

Everyone stop dreaming and GET REAL.

  • You can lead a Horse to water but you cant make it drink, you can put a whale back in the sea but you cant make stay there. You can put a kid in school but you cant make them want to learn. The reason i didnt wanna do schoolwork is because all i wanna do is play music or get into fashion, why should i have to learn such a high level of maths, science or english, a middle school education is good enough imo, i have no desire to learn things i dont want to do, so why should i try?

  • David "Diddy" Cameron talking to the ordinary people like only an Old Etonian can. Caring, bloody good bloke style...hot air...

  • When a man with a personal worth of £30 million (thanks to the bank of his mummy and daddy) decides that the tax payers of his country should foot the bill for the removal of an over-grown wisteria plant from his chimney, then he has made perfectly clear what his true concerns are on poverty amongst his country's tax payers.

Any later claims that he actually cares only serve to magnify his hypocrisy.

    What a phoney! cringe

  • How dare this Multi Millionaire scoundrel lecture anybody about dealing with poverty, it's the conservatives and labour that have been responsible for this poverty in the first place!

How about donating your last 4 years expenses to poverty stricken families in Britain then?

  • @diesbythesword Labours widened the gap.

  • the more things change, the more they stay the same

  • ...'course you should know a lot about poverty Cameron-seeing how your Conservative Governments have caused it over the decades.

And what is yet to come when you win the next General Election?-Take us out of Europe?-Abolish the minimum wage?-No heating allowances for the old-privatise the air that we breath?-Yes well you go on promising us the Earth-promises that you know you wont keep.

Tell the people the lie often enough Cameron-Christ you've almost got me beleiving you!

  • haha

hey the other day, i walked into a hospital, and there were all these commoners getting decent healthcare! whats all that about?

  • Good grief......!

  • A Tale of two leaders. Our Horror show and farce of a PM introduced the 10p tax fiasco when he was chancellor which absolutely savaged millions of families up and down the country..and why did he do that? simply to try and score points against the Tories..waht a despicable and nasty man Gordon Brown must be..if you said 'socialism' to Brown nowadays, he would start foaming at the mouth..well after he had invited Thatcher to tea again. This country needs Cameron to clean up the mess left by Brown

  • What does Cameron know about poverty?

The idiot is worth millions of pounds, went to Eton and has never had to struggle in his life.

  • The cause of so much poverty amid so much progress and wealth producing capacity is not the things mentioned here but rather these things are effects of even deeper causes none of which are acknowledged or dealt with. My favorite root cause is the getting of something for nothing by those who claim to "own" the earth, land and natural resources, and charge the rest of us for access to our own planet. This is the source of the huge unearned incomes of the wealthy without the noblesse oblige.

  • CAMERON LIKE ALL TORYS ARE TROUBLE.

  • Tories' answer to ending poverty? Shoot all poor people. Oh, and massive tax cuts for the mega rich. Should be a vote winner.

  • the gap between the rich and poor has become wider under Labour since 1997..that's just been announced..how embarrassing..Labour don't give two hoots about their own..everyone saw that with the 10p tax fiasco which crucified the poorest of families..Cameron will sort that out!

  • i dropped out of school at 15 it wasnt for me ,got a job at a factory isnt rocket science to press a button all day and although i was working for well under minimum wage at least i had self esteem and independents the only down side was that i had to save longer but by 20 easly got into other trades through experience ,but today its diffrent you either stay in education or become a criminal no choice..you need a diploma just to clean a toilet these days ..glad its not my generation!

  • Shut up Cameron,

you went to Eton so you have no idea what it is like or have any inclination to help stop Poverty.

  • How about chatting with the people your lot stole money from in Westminster Dame Shirley Porter and that guy who spent over 90 grand from residents and his defence was he had a shopping problem, and what have you done to get there money back? Oh Yes Nothing.

  • children in poverty = thatcherism. and the hideous old bitch can't even remember what a freak she was as her brains have turned to mush.

  • Shocking that 95% of 11yr olds aren't in school in that area. Obviously no law enforcement then? Minimum wage is the main cause of poverty for those in work in our area. Employers use it as if it's the maximum allowed! The Tories always opposed it if I remember correctly. Thank you Labour! You'd need to earn in excess of 50K to even buy a 1 bed flat and survive around here..it was always hard now it's impossible. I was much better off under the Tories, now I feel like Gordon's prostitute!!

  • Cameron = PM material.

  • Cameron = Thatcherism, privatisation, capitalism, individualism, anti union laws and mass unemployment. Just what your average Tory believes in, that the individual is more important than society as a whole.

  • Yes, as a Whig I believe you speak for all of us Tories when you say that we are for "mass unemployment."

Oh, and by the way, socialism fails, capitalism succeeds.

  • I wonder how a Tory government is going to tackle poverty (from what I have recalled, Thatcher's government left the destitute in even more shambles).

But it's nice that David Cameron is actually trying to address the issue (or at least, he looks like he's trying to address it)
