I don't think you guys have watched any old speed racer cartoons lately. They aren't as visually stimulating as you might remember (we're talking slow mo anime). Plus the translation to english caused them to talk funny. I've seen 4 different trailers now and they keep getting better! Anything they do is going to be awsome!

I disagree man, they really should've tried adding some depth to the visuals rather than making them as bland as they are. Granted the old show was visually terrible as far as modern cartoons are concerned, they really should've stepped this movie's visuals up for modern audiences, because their target audience is obviously little kids and those who remember the old show, and they're all used to astounding visuals now, which this movie unfortunately doesn't provide.

Astounding visuals don't simply comprise CG graphics combined with scenery that looks like it was made by Nickelodeon. They really ought to have tried to make this look at least a little bit more realistic. And as for films with astounding visuals, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings 1/2/3, Spiderman 1/2/3, Aliens, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, etc. Should I go on? Still think I don't know what "astounding" means?

'Speed Racer' is a stylized film. And stylistic film making naturally lends to a greater visual aesthetic. In other words, it looks like a cartoon for a reason. It's called "stylized film making" and it's far more visually creative then, say, 'Aliens'.

"Visually creative" is obviously a subjective term since u seem 2 think Aliens isn't visually creative. I do understand that they made the film to look like the old cartoon, but my point as previously stated is that they really should've tried making it look more textured. Solid colors through out the scenery make for very boring, unrealistic looking sets. It doesn't have 2 look gritty, but just have some semblance of reality, cause it belies the grandeur of the story they're trying 2 tell.

I don't know... There's kind of a discussion here. This movie being adapted from a cartoon of course is meant to have a children audience. But sadly, none of the kids nowadays know speed racer! I mean, I was a huge Speed Racer fan, but now I'm 23. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for the real initial fans, this movie might not fullfill our Speed Racer "Real life" idea, anyway, It's hollywood, and perhaps after the movie comes out, a new Speed Racer cartoon will too.
