These reforms are designed to help people who cant afford healthcare and give coverage to people who have preexisting conditions, etc .... why are people thinking it is the opposite? I just don't understand why healthcare isn't seen as important to be universally provided to all citizens in the same way that police services and fire fighting and search and rescue operations, etc etc, are universal. Roads are great but we should have had PRTs a hundred years ago. Public schools would be great if they were voluntary rather than compulsory. My well water in my town is poisoned from decades of pollution from a nearby military base. The power grid is erratic and occasionally shuts down for a few minutes. Parks and monuments are great too but they don't cost a trillion dollars a year. Public services only help when they are voluntary and don't interfere with the free market and personal liberty.

If car insurance covered spark plug replacement, I would be getting my plugs replaced all the time instead of waiting until it was needed. That would drive up the demand and price of spark plugs. That is part of what is happening with health care. Health insurance should not cover routine medical care, it should work like car insurance does, only covering the big unexpected disasters. The current form of "health insurance" is driving up the cost of medical care.

Insurance was more affordable then and it provided better protection because people took more responsibility for the little things. The bill would, however, grant Sola access to private insurance for the first time now that preexisting conditions aren't immediately red-flagged.

These reforms are designed to help people who cant afford healthcare and give coverage to people who have preexisting conditions, etc .... why are people thinking it is the opposite? I just don't understand why healthcare isn't seen as important to be universally provided to all citizens in the same way that police services and fire fighting and search and rescue operations, etc etc, are universal. Luckily if your house is on fire you don't need fire fighter insurance coverage. Or mugged etc.

Roads are great but we should have had PRTs a hundred years ago. Public schools would be great if they were voluntary rather than compulsory. My well water in my town is poisoned from decades of pollution from a nearby military base. The power grid is erratic and occasionally shuts down for a few minutes. Parks and monuments are great too but they don't cost a trillion dollars a year. Public services only help when they are voluntary and don't interfere with the free market and personal liberty.

At a time of rising unemployment, the government would raise the cost of hiring workers by requiring employers to provide health insurance to their workers or pay a fee (tax) to subsidize government coverage. Every American would be required to buy an insurance policy that meets certain government requirements. Even individuals who are currently insured and happy with their insurance will have to switch to insurance that meets the government's definition of "acceptable insurance."

If car insurance covered spark plug replacement, I would be getting my plugs replaced all the time instead of waiting until it was needed. That would drive up the demand and price of spark plugs. That is part of what is happening with health care. Health insurance should not cover routine medical care, it should work like car insurance does, only covering the big unexpected disasters. The current form of "health insurance" is driving up the cost of medical care.

You are so right urb. As an independent health insurance agent for more than 20 years I remember the says before the crisis and before the $20 office visit co-pay mentality became the norm. Insurance was more affordable then and it provided better protection because people took more responsibility for the little things. Cost of everything was cheaper because people paid for it themselves and shopped around. Why can't we simply go back to that?????

the facts are and ill use one example big insurer covers 35 mil. people for a rough cost of about 6000. a year and this is mached for approximatly 8 mil federal employees of which the figure is 96 trillion. The question should be, if we spent 2.2 trillion on health care what happened to the other 93 trillion. understand now u are being ripped off prople. So what the hell is this guy's problem? It would seem this issue should be irrelevant to them. Health care reform is an issue that pertains to the poor people who can't afford insurance.
