  • I realize that what they are doing is technically quite difficult, and that the problem is mainly that Ian Williams can't get his loop right, but seriously, it is possible to rehearse to the point where your not fumbling around trying to get the groove right for over a minute. This happens when they play Race: In live as well, and they end up looking like amateurs. Good thing they write great music, and are great performers otherwise.

  • This is proof that the new album would suck if they weren't forced to be a 3 piece. They said in interviews that they thought what they had before tyondai left was an uninspired record. Glad the gloss drop version is much better than this, even if it is a bit poppies than what we have come to expect from battles.

  • @tehstick I'm only confused because it's clearly Ian Williams's malfunctioning technology that ruins this iteration of the song (that three-minute intro sucks). If Braxton seems uninspired with this particular performance of the song, it might be because he's been waiting three minutes to properly start the song (and even then, Williams can't get the song cued up right). Oh, also--THIS SONG BLOWS. It's the worst thing BTTLS has written--the "Gloss Drop" version is even worse.

  • @athoughtdies This here was, obviously a very uninspired version before they had time to clean everything up to what it is now. Also, music is subjective. It's kind of trollish to state what you did so matter of fact-ly... Gloss Drop is a great step for Battles as a 3 piece now, and they've accomplished so much with it. Ice Cream is a great summery song, it just takes some time to get into since it is so -seemingly- different from what we are used to in Battles, even though it REALLY isn't...

  • Braxton, is still at Battles? never thought i was going to see his afro around this video

  • @TheSpallanzani he's not. old video.

  • Can you re-up Sweetie and the Shag, please?

  • anyone know anything about a new album? i mean i know theyre working on one, but im wondering if anyone has any juicy, rumor-esque info...

  • John always knows the perfect time to start a groove

  • ian*

  • The little solo is different in every live video I see. However this is my favourite.

  • don't think it's a solo. i think i is like trying to get the loop working. john already starts the beat when ian haven't figured it out already. then he does something different. then he starts again. and ty looks a bit sceptic. :D at around 3:22 the loop works fine and ty begins to relax.

saw then in late 2009 and they played the song without any mistakes.

  • Still a solo to me.

  • @armpitmustache so what, sounds cool eh?

  • haha "ice cream" fits perfectly :D

the first thing i thought when i heard this sick carneval-shit. x)

  • At the Dublin gig on 10th of December they called this song "Ice Cream" :D

  • @RmTheBobert That's very strange as I got one of the set lists and "Sanford and Son" was the name for it...maybe they have multiple titles at the moment. Why did Battles go to Dublin two weeks before I'm going there? Ugh!

  • Ye i remember they said on there facebook that "Sanford and Son" isn't one of the new song titles anymore. I think the lyrics even have something to do with ice cream now lol couldnt quite make them out though. Thats a real pity ya will miss them by just 2 weeks =\

  • @RmTheBobert Hmm...I'll definitely change it then as soon as it's confirmed.

  • ice cream fits the song better i think

  • That little solo at 2:33 is just perfect.

  • Except it's not so little.

  • @manicamadeus

you again? how do they suck? i love this!

  • How are these people not dancing their faces off?

  • I want I want I want I need this with a new album.

  • Makes me want to do the robot for the whole 6min.

  • its so funky! ITS AMAZING!!!

  • i agree they should shorten the start a little, and add another break after the bassline, because that bassline sounds so good as well

  • Wow, they're actually jamming. This is really cool, and it makes me excited for the new album. I just wish Tyondai's vocals were more audible.

  • although that was maybe the sickest thing i've ever heard, how incredible would it be if ian came in with that main part again after the little bassline at the end and the song started back up again.

  • Holy. Shit.

  • 3:12 on is fucking unbelievable...even for Battles

  • Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!!!!!!!!!! come on!!! let us have the new album...

  • so awesome! i always expect gold with battles, but seem to always get platinum.
