Currently I'm learning python with Python 3.2, what I want to know is: Does your tutorials work with python 3? If not, do you know of any GUI tool kits that will. I know of PyQT but I can't seem to make it work under Ubuntu 10.10, and I know of Thinker but it's not what I am looking for.. Anyway, love your videos. Ciao.
@bobicool: I have yet to try Python 3.x, but I would have a hard time believing that GTK wouldn't work with it. But, I can't say that the code isn't different for it. I don't know why PyQT doesn't work for you on Ubuntu 10.10. Do you have the needed packages installed? What errors do you get?
@metalx1000 Well, when I import PyQT4 it says that there are no modules named PyQT4 (but I know it's installed), and I followed all the steps to do so. Tutorials and Documentation for python 3 GUI development is really getting on my nerve, because there is almost none. The only good tutorials I found were for Tkinter. Guess I'll look more into Tkinter, since it's the only one who works (because it comes with python).
@bobicool: Well, Python3 is still new. I haven't really played with it yet for that reason and since it's not installed on most systems by default and I want my code to be as compatible as possible. I'm looking forward to learning Python3 when is it more stable and complete. But, at the current state, I don't see any benefit other then learning it now so I know it later. I'm not saying to give up on it. It good that you are preparing for the future. It just might be a headache for a while.
@metalx1000 Well, I think I might look in a little bit in python 2, it's going ot be easier in the long run. Well, thanks for responding to my questions so fast!
i just installed win7 on an old compaq 2.4ghz pentium 4. first thing i did was come here, and this was the first video i seen. funny things turn out.
im hoping i can learn some python from this but i use KDE and i think its QT not GTK. or does it not matter with python coding what desktop enviroment one uses.? using KXStudios right now. i imagine however i will learn the fundamentals. thank you for doing the videos. i found this looking for blender 2.5 tutorials i just got that. as well.
@alesbythepint: KDE does use QT but as long at GTK is installed this will work, and pretty much every distro of Linux has GTK installed by default. Same goes with Qt.
I will be doing St tutorial once I'm done with the GTK videos.
