This was before the Playmates in 1956 who I thought were terrible. It's really funny listening to a white pop group no KING especially back then. I know they did a lot of white country but a four lads - crewcuts group. I Imagine they didn't do too much promotion or this might have been a hit group.
Hi Pj, I didn't repost, simply went in and tinkered with the MP3 copy I got and made it sound a bit better. I'm strictly a listener and gleamer off of YouTube for my own use only. I have no video technology expertise to be uploading anything, lol....have a great day....
I understood what you mean. What I was getting at is this video sounds like crap compared to the actual 45. When I posted it Youtube degraded the bitrate pretty badly, which happens with a lot of my vidoes
Hey PJ...this is an awesome song. I felt it to be so worthy, I grabbed a copy of it via the converter and cleaned it up a bit, seperated channels and added a tad of reverb to it and you should hear it now. I'm willing to email a copy of it to anyone who wishes to have it....Thanks for this awesome post.
The only downside to grabbing music off of Youtube is that as soon as you post something it loses some of the bitrate. If you're looking at videos that are over a year old when Youtube had their old mastering process, it was really bad.
lol this does have a bit of that overly enunciated Four Aces sound, although this is more of a late 50s rock and roll sound than the Four Aces stuff I've heard
There's a LOT of great 50s stuff that was either never released or saw only very limited release. Some of it, you listen to it and think, "Now how could that not have been heard by millions??"
One problem is that there was such a plethora of releases that it wasn't possible for even a quarter of the doo wop records released to ever become hits. Also, with the advance of techology people were able to convert their garages/basements/etc into recording studios. Before you knew it just about every neighborhood had a recording studio. This is part of what I love about doo wop. There is so much music that if you love the genre it's really impossible to become bored of it
The 50s is a vast universe of music--doo-wop, jump, rockabilly, country, pop--but most people only know of the hits of the time and Elvis. There's a tremendous amount of 50s music. I have a lot fo it and yet I know I don't scratch the surface.
a haunting sound i love this type of doowop what a shame it was not noticed at the time ghostlly backing the king of this sort of angelic backing was john leyton a uk singer in 60's
Beautiful and eerie sound on this track.! I listen to all styles and eras of music and something always draws me back to these lost classics. Keep posting these gorgeous rarities!
All these amazing gems that wasnt really heard back in the day amazes me, this music is the best!! cant understand why it went un noticed. At least were enjoying it now 50 years later gonna go cruising with this blasting out!
Great quality of fidelity tones on this vinyl disc! What system do you use to play your records on?If you were to buy anew system today, which would you buy?(Iam looking to get one)
Actually, the sound is quite degraded because Youtube runs at a low bitrate. If you heard this fresh from the vinyl it would blow you away. I use a Technichs 1800 turntable from the mid 80s. It's one of the best turntables I've ever used. As far as cart/stylus, I prefer the Ortofon Concorde line. I currently use the "Pro S". The frequency response is great and warm. It's also a heavy and well balanced cart. If you're going to play rare vinyl always try to go below 2.5 grams. I play at 1.75

PJ you did it again, unearthing a cool rarity!Very effective use of the contralto backround

I agree. I normally wouldn't like that in a doo wop record but in this case it actually helped the delivery
