  • Question for you, does Mr. Branch use concrete formwork? Also, seems the walls are usually higher than the formwork, therefore, creating multiple vertical sections of earth. Lets say there are two sections, is the top & bottom structurally connected with rebar? Or does the top just "sit" on the bottom one?

  • awesome and amazing. couldn't you irrigate from the duck pond too?

inspiring video- thank you for posting it. happy winter solstice.

  • nice job. actually better than the videos on Quentin's site giving a better overview of the project at this date. would love to see a current summary. can't afford the 3 day seminar for $600....... Looks like a super project.

  • I am impressed by the home and the vision around the home. The video and audiable was good and easy watch and hear. Thanks for sharing this video it really makesme think...

  • I've just read Dave Easton's "The Rammed Earth House" where Quentin is referenced as someone who "continues the legacy". I'm a student at Prescott College and am enrolled in a sustainability course and I'd love to see these principles in action. Would you give a tour of your property in exchange for a bottle of your favorite refreshment?

  • Great video! Not only does Quentin Branch have excellent vision into earth-friendly and sustainable living, but he also brings those ideas to fruition with years of knowledge, experience, and passion. It is great to see this video of Quentin and Julies personal project. Hopefully there will be an after segment. It would be very interesting to see how the property lives. Thanks!

  • Good point, Quentin likes to work extemporaneously so we did not have a script. The water sequence is a bit choppy because he repeated himself in two portions, so I edited most of it out in the first mention. Without a script editing can be a bit dicey, but I wanted to try to keep it "organic". Problem with editing out the um's and ah's, that is harder to do when the lips are moving I found out! Not as easy as audio only. Anyway, fun stuff.

  • Hey Jim, The video is shot and cut really well. You might want to have done a script so there are fewer "ums" and pauses. You can always record another audio tract and edit it in. The discussion of the water flow and resources was a bit chopped, possibly edit them together so the view gets a sequential idea of the water system. There were a few shots that could use some color correction to make the sky blue.
