This was a great statement, and I'm amazed that some would find a way to politicize it and twist it. Any message about the Berlin Wall falling that doesn't include Ronald Reagan shows how ideologically driven one is. I agree there are other presidents that had a role in the downfall of the Soviet Union but none of them or their accomplishments were mentioned in his speech either. There is the exception of Kennedy and Obama but to my knowledge only one had anything to do with the fall of the Soviet Union and neither to do with the fall of the Berlin Wall. This message was not about congratulating ourselves on the role our Country played in the downfall of communism. This message was about congratulating Germany and the citizens of Europe in the 20th commemoration of the fall of a wall that divided them and got them killed in many instances. Kennedy holds a special place in the hearts of Germans, (as I was able to witness personally when I was stationed in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army), and that's probably why the President mentioned him.
I was referring to the Constitution earlier in an entirely different context, addressing one of the many space cadets that like to say that President Obama is somehow against the document, or that his policies are somehow in violation of it. Reagan should have been mentioned, along with Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Bush 41. They were all instrumental in prosecuting the Cold War successfully and in bringing it to a peaceful end. Kennedy and Reagan are always the ones that take the lion's share of the credit, but the right and fair thing to do is to recognize the contributions of all the other Presidents as well. Because giving all the credit for the fall of the wall to just Reagan is improper, and unfair to all of the other Presidents who did their part just as well. I liked Reagan's foreign policy a lot, but I do not believe he walked on water as some do. Every President from Truman to Bush 41 was instrumental in bringing about the collapse of the Soviet Union, because they all took the right actions in the right manner at just the right time. I agree there are other presidents that had a role in the downfall of the Soviet Union but none of them or their accomplishments were mentioned in his speech either. There is the exception of Kennedy and Obama but to my knowledge only one had anything to do with the fall of the Soviet Union and neither to do with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Feel free to prove me wrong but when you do include historical facts in your replies. Telling me I'm wrong is not an argument that will sway my opinion.

This message was not about congratulating ourselves on the role our Country played in the downfall of communism. This message was about congratulating Germany and the citizens of Europe in the 20th commemoration of the fall of a wall that divided them and got them killed in many instances. Kennedy holds a special place in the hearts of Germans, (as I was able to witness personally when I was stationed in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army), and that's probably why the President mentioned him.

Where's Ronald Reagan! In neither this speech shown on screens at the Wall nor Hillary Clinton's given in person, is Reagan mentioned. Clinton spoke of the Poles (Solidarity), a Polish Pope (Pope John Paul II), etc., but no President of the United States who stood up to the Soviet Union. I see President Obama has room in his speech to mention John Kennedy and himself. Reagan should have been mentioned, along with Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Bush 41. They were all instrumental in prosecuting the Cold War successfully and in bringing it to a peaceful end. Kennedy and Reagan are always the ones that take the lion's share of the credit, but the right and fair thing to do is to recognize the contributions of all the other Presidents as well. Truman and Eisenhower in particular deserve and enormous amount of credit and recognition!!

Founded Howard University? How about the 15th amendment that gave blacks the right to vote? Republicans outlawed the KKK, which was founded by Democrats. you really like to be vague with your statements, don't you? makes it hard to argue against. except people who know what is going on knows that you can't really be all that knowledgable if you can't go into detail. for an amendment to be ratified, it has to be approved by 3/4 of a state, and at least 3/4 of all states. that means reps AND dems passed those amendments. and the economy fell under bush. its been on the rise since the beginning of the year, up 3,000 points on the DOW so far.

That has nothing to do with the debate.Actually, the recession started at the end of Clinton's term and grew under Bush because he was a big spender. Obama came in and tripled Bush's spending. Wall Street should continue to grow since they received the majority of the stimulus bill. That's why unemployment is growing. 10.2 percent is due to giving money to Wall Street instead of main street.

Wrong. SERIOUSLY. The Dems have hijacked the claim about being the "civil rights" party. The vote: Dems voted 152 to 96. Repubs voted 138 to 34. So Dems voted against the bill at a 3 to 1 ratio. The Senate: Dems 46 to 21; Repubs 27 to 6. Again, Dems voted against the bill by a 3 to 1 ratio. See that is what you call facts. Looks like you need more education if you can't even name one single thing beside a Civil Rights Act that the Dems almost killed. Only 69 % of Dems voted for the bill.

The old Democratic beliefs were adopted by the republican party, which became the party of racism, negativity, and discord.
