I bet the time code would work right if you tried an american frame rate? say cinema frame rate at 23.976 or ntsc standard 29.97.. Just a thought maybe the mathematical algorithm is set for those frame rates? i dont expect you to have an NTSC camera though so i will try it out sometime and make a response for you :)

@LeapOfFaithVI The footage of the iPhone App was filmed on a camcorder and then transferred into FCP in the usual way!
