i have both and can confirm that with the prodigy you can replicate some of the minis sounds. The mini is very thick and has a huge punch, the prodigy is very big in sound and has a very tight bite - which the mini doesnt have. Out the 2, the prodigy is best for bass and tight leads and the mini everything else. Mini = a hybrid hulk/wolverine, prodigy = terminator
@cprostudio beleive it or not, my juno 60 has a bigger sound with bite (not fuller) than both of these. My voyager is not even in the same league soundwise.
@cprostudio I own a Prodigy and have tested the Voyager. To me the Voyager sounds much different and thinner than the old Moogs. And I believe you: They did something different in these days compared to modern analog synthesizers.
@panulli4 ive just got hold of an analogue solutions leipzig keyboard, it sounds very much like my minimoog and ms20. the filter lets it down, but for a modern analog it it destroys dave smith and the voyager soundwise. It has plenty of functionality too.
@cprostudio Yeah, the leipzig k is awesome, I just got one. But I have one small problem with it, the highest notes drifts a little, you experience the same? And also the resonance on the filter doesn't do anything until it's all the way up...
@cprostudio i've got a prodigy & two model d minis (i went through 4 to find the best ones)- in my experience the late model d mini (SN 10175 & up) is at least as good or better than the prodigy across the board- it's a much more dialed-in instrument than most minis.
@rollerskater: The guy who fixes my Mini had another one at his shop with a later board. I was surprised that there was virtually no difference between that other mini and mine (which has the middle and most common board).
it wasn't a true a/b test because the tech doesn't have a mixer and we had to unplug one mini in order to hear the other one.
@fooloof the main difference is in pitch stability. the sonic difference is there but negligible. the Voyager on the other hand sounds totally different than any Model D.
The Mini is a bit more flexible and has more possibilities, but let's face, a Prodigy is way more affordable and is the closest thing from a mini you can get
both synths are fantastic! the sound is very different. the prodigys oscillator sync sounds are one of the best ever. also great the Micromoog and the Source.
The tracking is a lot better on the Prodigy. It does sound like the Prodigy loses gain when the resonance is cranked, whereas the Minimoog sounds think no matter where the resonance is set.

Ah, the two synths in this world I would kill to have. And all I've got is a Micromoog. Though it is badass.

The Mini is fatter, though the timbres are almost identical. How many OSCs does the Prodigy have?
fooloof 7 months ago
@fooloof 2 oscillators, the mini has 3 but you often use the third one as LFO. At the end of the video you hear the mini sporting all 3 oscillators.

@lesingemonotone: Yes, I have a Minimoog. Later 8000 serial number. I've only had it a short time.

@rollerskater: very hard to believe, especially since the Mini has 3 OSC and the Prodigy only 2. is either of you Minis an R.A. Moog?
fooloof 2 months ago
why is that moog called prodigy? the band prodigy took the name from moog?

@lukuntri yes, that's right.

@cprostudio I didn't know that synth, but it looks cool and the sound is very classic and thick to me. thanks for the tip!
