I'm actually learning about this in my spare time- the history of the Hellenes is fascinating. Part near eastern, part European. BTW, I'm referencing the Norton Book of Classical Literature. (In academia, Greco-roman history is called Classical)- it's the one edited by Bernard Knox. It's a very foundational and respected text. It follows the development of the Hellene settlers from the east on the land that would later be known as Greece.
Like I said, they were Greeks. It's just that all the Greeks south of them disowned them. Ironically, they ended up conquering them.

Yes of course. I chose the Norton book because it's mostly excerpts from epics and commentaries by Athenian philosophers and politicians. I do enjoy studying ancient people, and the Greek history certainly did contribute a lot to western society. Yes, I know they were all Greeks (Except Minoans (pre-greek), they weren't- no one knows what group they came from, but their language LinearA was Egyptian) but they were individuals as well. I study it all.

Although Alexander appreciated Athenian culture he was well aware he couldnt trust the Greeks. They were constantly anxious to be free from Alexander in the rest of Greece when he took over. Even when he was conquering the Persian empire he had to send generals back to Greece to control the uprisings.

I'm actually learning about this in my spare time- the history of the Hellenes is fascinating. Part near eastern, part European. Relatively new (6000 BCE) when compared to their neighbors, but fascinating.

BTW, I'm referencing the Norton Book of Classical Literature. (In academia, Greco-roman history is called Classical)- it's the one edited by Bernard Knox. It's a very foundational and respected text. It follows the development of the Hellene settlers from the east on the land that would later be known as Greece.
Like I said, they were Greeks. It's just that all the Greeks south of them disowned them. Ironically, they ended up conquering them.

Yes of course. I chose the Norton book because it's mostly excerpts from epics and commentaries by Athenian philosophers and politicians. I do enjoy studying ancient people, and the Greek history certainly did contribute a lot to western society. Yes, I know they were all Greeks (Except Minoans (pre-greek), they weren't- no one knows what group they came from, but their language LinearA was Egyptian) but they were individuals as well. I study it all.

Aristotle was Macedonian, born in Stagira, Halkidiki, then part of MACEDONIA, but he accepted Greek culture only because it was dominant Macedonians alsp had no alphabet. Aristotle lived in Athens one part of his life, but after Alexander's death he was evicted to Macedonia. I do not know why he is considered Greek? @georgethecarer1 If you had actually read some of his biographies you would know that the rest of the Greeks considered the Macedonians barbarian and wanted no part in Alexander's empire. Although Alexander appreciated Athenian culture he was well aware he couldnt trust the Greeks. They were constantly anxious to be free from Alexander in the rest of Greece when he took over. Even when he was conquering the Persian empire he had to send generals back to Greece to control the uprisings.

@Devoj4E republic of Macedonia is different from greece, it is located in the north of the balkan---north of greece. Though there is a region in northern greece that is called macedonia, and probably, this is where the areas where the argeads ruled (Philip II and Alexandros III belong here) over many years. Well, I'm Asian and I'm really into European history. You can look at the map if you want to prove it. :))
