*Mark My Words: Derek Anderson will be remember more for this tirade than anything he ever does on the field. His 15 minutes of fame begins and ends here.
LOL anyone else think the look on Deuce Lutui's face is absolutely hilarious?
Also, as bad as the 9ers are this year, the cardinals proved that they're a whole lot worse. they got dominated by a BAD team. So the big joke is on you Arizona. LULZ a plenty :D
Honestly, I can't blame him. Good grief, can you imagine if everyone walked around looking like Tiger on a Sunday afternoon? The man's human, right? It's not exactly like he was busting a gut, laughing. Yes, his job is to be a leader. That's what you get when you're a quarterback in the N.F.L., but the entire situation was (and is) blown out of proportion. The reporter obviously was just trying to get under his skin
he has to find ways to stay lose on the sideline, if he's hanging his head what chance does he have to attempt a comeback? He was within his rights for basically telling the reporter to f off.
if I am on camera at a "serious" event or moment, and someone tells me a joke, i will smile and tell the other person "not here, not now" with a smile on my face. Also as a leader, if someone asked me about it, I wouldn't say what was said. Cause as a leader, i took care of it.
the reporter's sole point of pushing the question over and over again was to get under his skin.
there are many different types of leadership. On camera reaction aside, whose to say he did anything wrong?

You can laugh while playing football,...honest! DA and the other player could easily have been joking about some of the dumba** plays that were called on either side.
I can't believe I'm about to say this but, DA did the right thing. The reportor was being an asshole. He was asking Derek a question, DA answered, and he clearly didn't like the answer so he harrassed Derek with the same question. He had no right to do that to DA, the reporter was being unprofessional, and this proves why the media is the biggest flaw in our society. Oh my gosh the guy smiled he must not care at all! As much as DA sucks he did the right thing by defending himself.
@AZcardsSFgiants They were losing by 18 what was the reason for laughing? Seriously, im not saying his teammate can't cheer him up but its a time and place for all that joking around. He should have been more serious at least more concerned about winning the game
@pyro200777 He smiled for about five seconds I certainly didn't see him out there laughing his ass off. I don't like Derek because he really is very terrible but the reporter blew this way out of proportion.
@AZcardsSFgiants Smiled or laugh he should be serious or be trying to win the game. His team is losing. Why is everyone acting like being dedicated to win isn't the right thing to do?
@pyro200777 He should be serious about winning but you're forgetting this is Derek Anderson. What's sad is I really do believe he tries to be great but the guy just isn't cut out to be an NFL starting QB. He's a perennial backup in the NFL just like bust Leinart.
@darnell16player Leinart is a bust. The guy doesn't care about football. He can't even beat out Dan Orlovsky for the second string job in Houston, that's pathetic. Leinart had his chance in 2007 and he blew it. He doesn't care about football and he's a bust.
@AZcardsSFgiants Leinart isn't a bust, he has to beat Schaub and idk who Dan orlovsky is other than he was a backup in detroit, Leinart had a chance in 2007 but did anyone wanna step up? only the receivers that's it no one else
Not that I am a fan of Derek Anderson (I am a Browns fan, I think he sucks), but that interviewer is still a jackass for bringing up the same thing over and over. I would probably act the same after having a bad game and some d-bag asks me the same question over and over.
If he took this s*** seriously then he wouldn't call it s***.... He'd respect the game. And i don't understand why he blew up at the guy asking questions... he's just doing his job and it wasn't anything too personal.
The reporter kept asking the same question if he didnt answer it the first time he wont answer it the 5th time. Reporter should have just moved on but he kept needling him. I dont blame him for blowing up.
Just an all around stupid and pointless question. I don't blame Derek for getting pissed. Is it so wrong for teammates to cheer each other up during a game? Why doesn't the reporter focus on something that actually matters? Like how he played or how the 49ers played.
Whether it's in a game or a season, or whether he's up or down, or whether it's by a few points or a lot, Coach Norv Turner of the San Diego Chargers "appears" to have a smile on his face! If he came to town to play the Cardinals, would Kent Somers ever ask HIM or not why HE was smiling? I DON'T THINK SO! Why? BECAUSE IT'S A NON-ISSUE! There could be a million things on his mind! There could a million things on ANDERSON'S mind, too!
@dukenthaylor The running game stinks because teams put 8 guys in the box and Anderson cant keep them accountable for it, hell teams might as well put all 11 in the box, Anderson has as much chance of complete a pass to a covered play as a wide open one. And the D has been bad but I think a lot of it stems from the offense constantly putting them in a hole and never being able to sustain drives and putting them in bad field position. If the Cards had even an average QB the west would be won.
@brianbizzoyd that's no excuse, though. the off coord STILL should've been able (and, with nothing to lose, WILLING) to "risk" plays that take what a defense gives them. 8 in the box, vs the game's best jump receiver fitzgerald (what risk?), means anderson counters w/RELENTLESS fade tosses downfield. larry will be in SINGLE-coverage every time and, until the D gets wise and slackens up, should have the percentages to get some REALLY big plays! of course, the line has to give him enough time...
Anderson's not poised for interviews. Granted! But when he says "It's fine" he only saying he knows what Somers is up to! Who, BTW, has been on his case since he got there, but doesn't ever seem to have too much to say about Arizona's horrific defense, pathetic running game, or shitty blocking! Who also PROTEST A BIT TOO MUCH saying he's NOT trying to be sarcastic, but keeps PRESSING him on it FIVE MORE TIMES? INTERESTING!
.
The press shouldn't be about deriving issues from NON-issues.
The reporter (Kent Somers) DIDN'T CARE to handle it better! If you want relevant information from interviewees in Anderson's sensitive situation, you ask questions like "What can you tell us about what you and Deuce were talking about on the bench?" That's not only respectful; IT'S TYPICAL! AND PROFESSIONAL! Instead, Somers forewent any such decorum to use the closed-ended tactics of a tabloid (disrespect, pre-suppositions, accusatory inuendo) to incite anger and generate scandal.
Got defensive for no reason. Should've just said "It was a frustrating night, [fat lineman] and I took a moment and shared a laugh. We're friends. It wasn't meant to be a memorandum on my dedication to this team or tonight's game, it was a moment shared between friends during a tough time." ... No reporter would complain about that.
To be smiling and apparently joking with another player when your team is having a bad year and your down by 18 points is questionable behavior on the sideline. If you were a DEA agent on your way to a big bust and your counterparts were joking around on the way there, wouldn't you want them to focus on the task at hand a little better so ya'll don't get your heads blown off?
To be smiling and apparently joking with another player when your team is having a bad year and your down by 18 points is questionable behavior on the sideline. If you were a DEA agent on your way to a big bust and your counterparts were joking around on the way there, wouldn't want them to focus on the task at hand a little better so ya'll don't get your heads blown off?
After watching this game it proves that Arizona is a bunch of stupid people after Warner retired, they got rid of Leinart to bring Derek in? Please, I would have gave Leinart a chance to play in the regular season instead Arizona releases him in preseason of all things.
@lnglvhndrx I wouls have given Leinart a chance, Derek not so much if in a season in cleveland his passer rating is below 70 while Matt is slightly higher than that. I would have taken Leinart over Anderson
@Will2124 right before that the reporter asked the same question. Anderson answered that his o-lineman had said something to try and keep him positive in this embarrassing situation, then anderson went on to answer another questiong, but the original reporter kept going at him. he didn't blatantly lie. they caught 5 seconds of a friend trying to keep a friend positive and acted like he was laughing all game.
Truly competitive people would never be laughing in a game like that. Just saying..is it a crime that he was laughing..no. But the best players in the world wouldnt think anything was funny when getting whooped like that. Derek Anderson might just lack that competitive edge hence why he is a garbage player.
SO what if he smiled/laughed once during a game? I'm sure he was pissed off the rest of it...I don't think Whisenhunt is the kind of coach to let his quarterback coast.
Anderson sucks but the reporters a dick. Do they really think he doesn't care? What does he think the answer to that's gonna be? Yes? Even if he didn't care he wouldn't say it.
Guys, I was at this game, I was behind the cards bench on the south end of the stadium, I could clearly hear what was said, here's how the convo went...
Duece -Did you hear about Michael Vick's new shoe endorsement deal?
Reporters are supposed to be nosy. It was a perfectly legitimate question, given the circumstances. DA chose to handle it in a most unprofessional manner. All he had to do was answer the question or say "no comment" and move on.
@MrDeadlyBones You are a joke...the reporter was dead balls right...Piece of shit QB should be thrown out of the locker and make him come back after the season to get his things!
@craigcampos people cant laugh? yea they got their ass beat but a reporter has no right to push and assume shit. I'd do the same as anderson did yea he's a professional but just because he was laughing at maybe a joke or a conversation on the sideline means everyone has to know why? they dont.
@packers718 You havent watched the Cards and or prob are not a fan. I am...DA is a useless worthless piece of crap...that happens to get paid millions. He was laughing a few times...and if you watched the game...they didnt show up. CLassless by a crap player.
@packers718 To answer your question. NO people can't laugh. This is professional sports not your office workplace. When your team is getting murdered on national tv your not supposed to be on the sideline cracking jokes or smiling. Also he could've easily said to the reported he was laughing at an inside joke instead of getting all pissy like a girl.
@packers718 Ok ask yourself this: What they were talking about was it more important than the game? Better yet is joking around and laughing good when getting your ass handed to you by 18+Points?
He was laughing thinking about a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode. And he'll be able to watch all of Larry David's antics next season when he's sitting on his sofa.
Prettttty... Pretttty... Prettty. Good
Whisenhunt's a good coach. Too bad he has a weak QB.
Anderson could have kept his cool...but the reporter was being nosey and annoying as hell. You're allowed to crack a smile on a bad day. Was Anderson supposed to be on the sideline acting like his life is over? At least he wasn't being a baby and shouting at teammates.
@sillyrob You also probably don't know much about sports. It's a golden rule that when ur team is sucking, i.e down by 18 points ur not supposed to be on the sideline smiling or laughing about anything(especially on a nationally televised game). You don't see Brady or Manning smiling cracking jokes when their teams are down.
@th1pool You obviously don't know much about sports. It's a golden rule in sports than when ur team is sucking, i.e down by 18 points getting humiliated ur not supposed to be on the sideline laughing or smiling about anything. When was the last time you saw Brady or Manning smiling when their team was down? Yup.
@apatel8t3 I've played plenty of sports and play collegiate hockey right now. I'll admit if I am having a shitty game or my team is down I'll be pissed off and not the most pleasant person to be around. That being said, no matter how pissed off I get, if someone says something that is obviously funny or sarcastic enough to warrant a laugh, I will see the humor in it and laugh. You aren't required to turn into a humor-less robot if you are losing a game, no matter how bad a mood you are in.
@th1pool Then he should've said that to the reporter instead of getting all pissy like a girl. All the reporter asked for was an explanation..as a pro athlete I think hes required to tell us because to Arizona fans it would look like he doesn't care when he simply as u said could be laughing at an inside joke. Instead he first lied and said he wasn't laughing and after the reporter called him out saying he was on tv he changed his tone and got defensive. Comes across as arrogant.
@th1pool Its not about him looking sad or being down. But if you are losing by 18 points what's the reason you are laughing for? Why not show some type of concern at least act like a leader in front of your team? No one cares that the teamate tried cheering him up he just wasnt serious and was joking around. Its a time to do all of that but u need to be serious when you are on the field

Guys, I was at this game, I was behind the cards bench on the south end of the stadium, I could clearly hear what was said, here's how the convo went...
Duece -Did you hear about Michael Vick's new shoe endorsement deal?
Derek- Nah, what is it?
Duece - He now endorses "Hush Puppies"! ROFL
Derek - L O L

Reporters are supposed to be nosy. It was a perfectly legitimate question, given the circumstances. DA chose to handle it in a most unprofessional manner. All he had to do was answer the question or say "no comment" and move on.

Maybe he should study his ass off on a book about how to not stare down your receivers

I'm sorry but he gave up at that point, that's why he wasn't even thinking about the game. Sad that your QB's cracking jokes when you're losing.

the Reporter is such an asshole
MrDeadlyBones 1 year ago
@MrDeadlyBones You are a joke...the reporter was dead balls right...Piece of shit QB should be thrown out of the locker and make him come back after the season to get his things!
craigcampos 1 year ago
@craigcampos people cant laugh? yea they got their ass beat but a reporter has no right to push and assume shit. I'd do the same as anderson did yea he's a professional but just because he was laughing at maybe a joke or a conversation on the sideline means everyone has to know why? they dont.
packers718 1 year ago
@packers718 You havent watched the Cards and or prob are not a fan. I am...DA is a useless worthless piece of crap...that happens to get paid millions. He was laughing a few times...and if you watched the game...they didnt show up. CLassless by a crap player.
craigcampos 1 year ago

Anderson could have kept his cool...but the reporter was being nosey and annoying as hell. You're allowed to crack a smile on a bad day. Was Anderson supposed to be on the sideline acting like his life is over? At least he wasn't being a baby and shouting at teammates.

@th1pool Thank you.

@sillyrob You also probably don't know much about sports. It's a golden rule that when ur team is sucking, i.e down by 18 points ur not supposed to be on the sideline smiling or laughing about anything(especially on a nationally televised game). You don't see Brady or Manning smiling cracking jokes when their teams are down.
apatel8t3 1 year ago
@th1pool You obviously don't know much about sports. It's a golden rule in sports than when ur team is sucking, i.e down by 18 points getting humiliated ur not supposed to be on the sideline laughing or smiling about anything. When was the last time you saw Brady or Manning smiling when their team was down? Yup.
apatel8t3 1 year ago
@apatel8t3 I've played plenty of sports and play collegiate hockey right now. I'll admit if I am having a shitty game or my team is down I'll be pissed off and not the most pleasant person to be around. That being said, no matter how pissed off I get, if someone says something that is obviously funny or sarcastic enough to warrant a laugh, I will see the humor in it and laugh. You aren't required to turn into a humor-less robot if you are losing a game, no matter how bad a mood you are in.
th1pool 1 year ago
@th1pool Then he should've said that to the reporter instead of getting all pissy like a girl. All the reporter asked for was an explanation..as a pro athlete I think hes required to tell us because to Arizona fans it would look like he doesn't care when he simply as u said could be laughing at an inside joke. Instead he first lied and said he wasn't laughing and after the reporter called him out saying he was on tv he changed his tone and got defensive. Comes across as arrogant.
apatel8t3 1 year ago
@th1pool Its not about him looking sad or being down. But if you are losing by 18 points what's the reason you are laughing for? Why not show some type of concern at least act like a leader in front of your team? No one cares that the teamate tried cheering him up he just wasnt serious and was joking around. Its a time to do all of that but u need to be serious when you are on the field
